They are because Cyprus only have 3 players playing in a decent league.

Cypriot clubs haven't done that in years and have more foreign players than locals so that point is irrelevant.

There are many Cypriot players in those teams, but a lot of foreigners too. No salary cap, so standard is higher.

And Cypriot Talent is developed more readily. Their problem is that they are a small country of 800,000 people, playing against the giants of Europe but they punch above their weight at a club level. They have killed off some giants.

Australia punches below its weight right now. It never use to be this way.

They probably would if it was played in the middle east.

I doubt it.

I don't think they would lose to Jordan. In fact, their top player plays for Apoel.

They got rid of Tommy Oar for the Jordanian attacker.

The foreign players make Cypriot clubs ok.

Anyway, we aren't talking about club football, we are talking about international football. Reality is that Cyprus are worse than Australia and Syria and nothing you say can change that.

beating middle eastern teams in the middle east is very difficult, especially with an injury ravaged side

Some concerns with the performance but little doubt this is a very good result that would be happy with at any time in our roos history regardless of what side we have

Jordan have played Cyprus 5 times.

They last met in May last year. Jordan won 3-0.

one thing that should be celebrated is we can get away with worse performances because we have 3 sound finishers up front in rogic/ikon and mabil

We are missing a rock in defensive midfield a little. Luongo is good enough but needs to get out of the ecl. He often looks burnt out and there are way too many games in that league

It is a joint effort. Apoel have many Cypriot Players of high standard.

There are 10 Cypriot players in the Apoel squad. But you seem to also forget that the lower teams are developers of local talent as they are mostly Cypriot players. And they have to play the top teams at the pointy end which produce high quality football,.

In contrast to the dreary HAL which is shit.

In friendlies.

Jordan has more to play for because they want to be signed by Cypriot clubs.

It's got nothing to do with trolling.

I have been watching football in Australia since the 80s. I actually feel despondent in how the game has evolved in the last 10 years. There are many people who see this as well.

What I would like to see is a stronger National Competition. And of course a stronger NT that does Australia proud.

I feel the National Competition has many hand brakes and is under achieving. I also believe we are not producing the players we use to. I like to know why.

Fuck mouflon, japan doesn't dominate every game in asia either

are they just as shit? What do you want to do bag every asian team in the tournament complaining how shit they are compared to france and brazil? I'd say the way the australian team is at the moment with the injuries we've had and the football we're playing this is the best team since the golden generation. Only thing we're missing is a striker but aside from that there's some pretty exciting talent coming through like Ikon and Mabil and plenty others who were injured prior to the tournament

Obviously AFC isn't as good as conmebol and uefa but the gap is closing.

Teams like Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Iran are superior to say the least.

Several other countries are right up with the Aussies as well.

I can foresee problems with Australia's qualification to the WC.

nah

Yeh, they are better alright.

Saudi Arabia are a cut above Syria and we barely beat them. Saudi Arabia are a good team. Not quite as good as Iran. they are brilliant. Japan and South korea are technically better too.

If Australia play KSA, in the AFC, they are toast.

We beat them at home and drew with them away.

He has been consistent in Austria. Very good ball winner at that level.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

A lot has happened in 2 years.

Australia today is not as strong as Australia 2 years ago, and the Australia 2 years ago wasn't very strong either.

Saudi Arabia is on an upward trajectory. In fact all of Asia and the Middle east is on the rise. Is Australia also on the rise?

Lots of good chances not taken today. I'd like to see Giannou start the next game. Grant has been fine but a fit Risdon and Leckie would be a great boost. Milligan in midfield and Sainsbury back.

No I don't. You come in with your one liners and ask about my mental well being? Are you serious?

In all honesty, this is getting ridiculous. Why are you all so precious? I was not that anti Australia and wanted them to win. I was however very skeptical about Australia and still am. I am still skeptical about them.

Right now, I do not have the same faith that Australia is able to beat teams like Syria, Jordan, Oman, Cyprus, or Israel, let alone Iran, Saudi Arabia, South Korea or Japan.
