+x+xWhy is everyone responding to mouflonrouge? Don't feed the troll unless you enjoy engaging with him. It's got nothing to do with trolling. I have been watching football in Australia since the 80s. I actually feel despondent in how the game has evolved in the last 10 years. There are many people who see this as well. What I would like to see is a stronger National Competition. And of course a stronger NT that does Australia proud. I feel the National Competition has many hand brakes and is under achieving. I also believe we are not producing the players we use to. I like to know why. This is agenda driven stuff, mainly using a tool of the Socceroos to push his agenda. I have watched football in Australia & especially the Socceroos since 1974 World cup & outside of Viduka & Kewell, I see no better players in our golden generation then are playing now. Is Bresc better then Mooy, Emerton better then Leckie or Zelic better then Sainsbury, all a matter of opinion, but with Kewell & Dukes, if blind Freddy can say they are better, those 2 are the only players close to world class, we have ever produced. The difference is that the Asians are changing, the football is changing. Australia used to overpower our Asian counterparts with fitness, strength & pace, but now you see that changing in Asia, theya re producing highly skilled players with strength, pace & fitness, plus Australia has also changed, we are not just replying our physical attributes & picking players with skills as well. If not trolling, definitely agenda driven.

Ikon looked good although seemed a little one dimensional this game/perhaps took on and ran into players a little too often. Didn’t really notice Irvine but think he is worth persisting with for Aerial threat. Hope Giannou starts, play looked more fluent with him on the pitch.

But it would be Paul Okon who would be in Mooy's deep laying playmaker role. No comparison: Okon>>>>Mooy Emerton is better than Leckie. People can only remember that last year or so of Emerton's career. Few remember how he was able to play with the ball at his feet in his days at .Feyenoord and 10 years in the EPL after. Its an insult to him to put Leckie ahead of him. Is Zelic better than Sainsbury? Now you're just trolling.

Post initially in the wrong thread but six goals in two games without jedinak or Cahill is a huge effort in setting our attack up for the future

+xIts quite funny how the arab commentators dont even pretend to be objective like ours. No attempt at all to hide their biases. The make the Kiwi commentators sound objective. Best part of Rogic's late goal was how downcast the commentators sounded all of a sudden. No late winner for Syria, no jizzing in their pants praising Allah for the goal for 5 minutes and kissing the turf. Glorious.

The goal by Mabil was special. Great shot. The play of Rogic was excellent, including his tracking back. Grant continues to impress me, even against stronger opposition. Irvine did a lot of work off the ball - it went over his head a lot - but was decisive in the tackle. Maybe our CB's should watch how the opposing CB's stay close to Maclaren and deny him the space to run or shoot. They give the #9's far too much space.
People are complaining about the ref., yet it was him who (rightly) denied the Syrians their first "goal", which would have been allowed by a lot of refs. Had that been given, it would have been a totally different ball game!

+xI was dissapointed with large chunks of that match. We are too brittle defensively. But at least we are creating goal scoring opportunities. Ikon and Mabil have been our tournament revelations so far. And to be fair, this is a pretty inexperienced squad missing a number of players with injury and two notable retirees. We always wondered how we would score goals after Timmy and Jedi left the scene, and several players are stepping up. All things considered, while there's lots to work on, Arnie has laid some good foundations for the WC qualifying campaign, whatever happens in the next match, and the last two matches have shown that we can beat Middle Eastern teams in their backyard! Defence starts from the front - the attacking line. Leckie and Kruse have been missed defensively in their closing down of opposition players. Moreover, Milligan was missed screening the defensive line in the defensive midfield line. Although Ikon certainly tracks back well, whereas Mabil is more of a liability in BPO and DTs. IMO Arnie's major selection mistake was moving Milligan back to CB, when he is a short CB against very tall strikers, and, with the Syrian tactic of sending long balls into the mixer. The team would've been better balanced with the taller Jurman playing at CB and Milligan pulling strings in midfield. It is amazing to see that Milligan has improved since the last Asian Cup, progressing from 29 years of age, whilst Luongo who must be about 5 years younger, has declined. Kruse and Leckie have been usurped offensively as wide players. The quality of the balls into the box, has improved, and, Mabil and Ikon are beating players in 1v1s and creating overloads in the attacking third. One also has to credit Syria in squeezing intensively in a full press in the first 20 mins, dominating play and disturbing Aussie build ups. The consequence of this strategy is to run out of gas prematurely, which they did.

Ikon and Mabil were good. Giannou looked dangerous too. He should definitely be starting. He almost scored a goal (hit the woodwork). That was a great shot. deserved to be a goal... You know what I was about to post Saudi Arabia's underwhelming results pretty much since we have been in asia. Losing to teams at home , not even making it out of the group at the last gulf cup. In this group The reality is Saudi Arabia are slightly better than the rest of the middle east but not by much. They've never dominated against the shit teams like oman and kuwait which we have smashed many times playing against them. The last 2 times we've played against kuwait one time at home in the last asian cup we beat them 4-1. In october last year we played kuwait in kuwait beat them 4-0. Even oman we recently beat them 5-0 in the middle east, Saudi Arabia never gets those sorts of results against those sorts of middle eastern teams. Even at home, they lose to shit kickers like bahrain and uae all the time. We've never lost to a middle eastern team at home unless you include the a-league team that lost to kuwait under pim. I don't think mouflon is a troll, I literally think he's made a call that australia will struggle and lose the match. Then we won it and he's too embarassed to admit he's an idiot, and then when I pulled him up on the underwhelming results that japan has had like beating turkmenistan 3-2 he doesn't want to admit that A) Australia has always been one of the dominant teams in asia even at our worst or B) The teams in asia that he says we will struggle against (like saudi arabia) constantly have poor results against teams we usually smash Just wow. How much have Oman and the UAE improved. The truth is, they have improved by quite a lot. Saudi Arabia have also improved. The days where Oman and UAE were easy beats are long gone. I actually believe that Oman, Jordan, and UAE are better than the Aussies. Can we beat them? I am not so sure these days. Ten years ago, we would have beat them easily. But now, we are just as likely to get beaten. Now what does this tell us? It tells me they have gotten better and we have regressed. If Australia played Saudi Arabia rather than Syria, we would have lost.

+x+x+x+x+xIt was so annoying hearing the Australian commentators (Simon Hill and whats-his-name) saying the Milligan accidental contact between arm and ball was an obvious penalty to Syria. If it's not intentional, it's not hand ball and it was obviously not intentional. That part of the rule is simple, one of them even asks "what is the rule?" yah you should probably look that up! You should read the rule book yourself. Right to the end. "the ref has to take into consideration... " In Serie A that penalty is given 100 out of 100 times, just saying you could literally pull out a gun and shoot someone and it would only be a penalty 90 times out of a hundred. There isn't a league in the world that is consistent with pens Well after recent events in Greece that theory might be put to the test someday lol lol meanwhile how good are syria at getting dodgy pens remember that one where leckie jumped into the air and it was somehow a pen They had a pretty clear cut chance of a handball penalty that wasn't given.

+xJust checked APOEL and they have so many foreigners. Jordan's best player is there too. This guy. https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/Blog/2018/5/31/Footballer-Mousa-al-Taamari-signs-for-APOEL-NicosiaGreat little player. They got rid of Oar for this maverick. He is lightning quick. Jordan is producing some good players.

Apart from his long range shooting, his attacking impetus has declined from 4-5 years ago. You are bang on the money with his improved defensive impetus though. From what Arnie said after the game, he is a moody a character who takes a bit to motivate. Although not in the squad, I'm very keen on Daniel Da Silva from his last season at CCM being in the Socceroo framework as AM.

Because I believe we are not that good and that the delusion is further damaging Australian Football. My agenda is to show we are on a pathway of regression and stagnation. This is to further other aims which I believe will strengthen Aussie Football in the future such as more teams, a second tier, promotion and relegation. I believe this is going to change the dynamic completely. That's my agenda and it isn't a bad agenda. Also, you are delusional to believe that there were no better players playing for Australia during the GG years than there are now. The standard of the HAL has deteriorated. Aussie players are not making it in Europe like they use to. In fact, even Giannou is struggling in the Cyprus League but over here is looking great.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xFuck mouflon, japan doesn't dominate every game in asia either are they just as shit? What do you want to do bag every asian team in the tournament complaining how shit they are compared to france and brazil? I'd say the way the australian team is at the moment with the injuries we've had and the football we're playing this is the best team since the golden generation. Only thing we're missing is a striker but aside from that there's some pretty exciting talent coming through like Ikon and Mabil and plenty others who were injured prior to the tournament Obviously AFC isn't as good as conmebol and uefa but the gap is closing. Teams like Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea and Iran are superior to say the least. nah Yeh, they are better alright. Saudi Arabia are a cut above Syria and we barely beat them. Saudi Arabia are a good team. Not quite as good as Iran. they are brilliant. Japan and South korea are technically better too. If Australia play KSA, in the AFC, they are toast. We played them in WCQ We beat them at home and drew with them away. Once upon a time. What do you think will happen now? Once upon a time? It was two years ago ffs The same as WCQ, maybe we beat them away as well. A lot has happened in 2 years. Australia today is not as strong as Australia 2 years ago, and the Australia 2 years ago wasn't very strong either. Saudi Arabia is on an upward trajectory. In fact all of Asia and the Middle east is on the rise. Is Australia also on the rise? 6 months ago Saudi Arabia lost 5-0 to Russia. Do you honestly think Australia would of lost to Russia 5-0 at that tournament? Why I am bothering I don't know. You are nothing but a troll and to argue otherwise is a waste of time on your part. Yes I really believe that Australia would struggle against Saudi Arabia, just like it struggled against Jordan and Syria. Yes I believe that it is likely Saudi Arabia would beat us.

I believe I am the least anti Australian supporter here because I am prepared to see the reality and ask questions and I believe all Australian fans need to be asking similar questions otherwise the delusion continues and we get closer to the train wreck I predict.

Oh I am sorry for ruining the forum for you. This saddens me. All I am doing is having my say on the state of Australian Football. You don't need to agree with my posts but I believe I am offering very valid critique that may be confronting to some. The warning signs are there for all to see, or for those willing to open their eyes.

I have to agree with Robbos. Although there is a degree of veneration where fans adulate names and reputations, when one views footage of the GG, certainly the ones who never played World Cup football, and even the ones who did, who improved consequently, the immeasurably better coaching they've had since 2005, and the exhaustive football performance criteria that players are evaluated by, apart from not scoring goals, the current Socceroos would probably outplay the GGs. When one views the older videos, the former Socceroo team turned the ball over so much, even in the WC of 2006. The current Socceroo unit are battle hardened, constantly being forced to play overseas in tough conditions. They are usually more cohesive as a unit. It has constantly been discussed in FFA coach education in Australia about how the Asian teams are improving , tactically and structurally. It is far easier for our footballers to go to the moderate leagues overseas in Europe. Many Asians are not culturally comfortable with living in many European countries. They also play a lot of international football against neighbours. They often have long camps are and are very familiar with each other. This generally equates to team cohesion. These changing facets of the ever evolving international football scenario are probably not recognised enough by enough people in Australia who follow football.

He seemed to of had a good view and honestly, nobody can argue Milligan deliberately played the ball onto his arm after a poor touch. His arms were in that position before he tried to clear it.

Many Asians are not culturally comfortable wit living in many European countries. They also play a lot of international football against neighbours. They often have long caps are and are very familiar with each other. This generally equates to team cohesion. These changing facets of the ever evolving international football scenario are probably not recognised enough by enough people in Australia who follow football. Gee Decentric. You can be battle hardened all you like but the GG were players that made the big time in Europe and the current team is struggling against the likes of Jordan, and Syria. So the improved coaching is getting the results required. Are we results driven or in a state of delusion?

They should make the rule simple: Make it always a penalty if the arm is separated from the body, no matter intentional or not. Defenders can adapt to that and fans Just saying, im probably about to start a refereeing course, and that is basically my interpretation from my experience in football. So, if I ever do get far enough to do internationals (lel), be warned.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+xIt was so annoying hearing the Australian commentators (Simon Hill and whats-his-name) saying the Milligan accidental contact between arm and ball was an obvious penalty to Syria. I know I'm in the minority here, but I think that was actually a decent call by the ref. He seemed to of had a good view and honestly, nobody can argue Milligan deliberately played the ball onto his arm after a poor touch. His arms were in that position before he tried to clear it. yeah it was ball to hand, granted, but it was in the box and his arm,s were not down beside his body or in a normal position, really at his level, its a pen IMO

watching old games our modern midfields are much better as a unit despite achieving less individually at club level
our finishing used to be a lot better, along with our positional awareness

+x+x+x+x+xWhy is everyone responding to mouflonrouge? Don't feed the troll unless you enjoy engaging with him. It's got nothing to do with trolling. I have been watching football in Australia since the 80s. I actually feel despondent in how the game has evolved in the last 10 years. There are many people who see this as well. What I would like to see is a stronger National Competition. And of course a stronger NT that does Australia proud. I feel the National Competition has many hand brakes and is under achieving. I also believe we are not producing the players we use to. I like to know why. +xThis extreme idiot is ruining the board for me. Since everyone is humouring him, the threads become pretty much unreadable. And we wonder why traffic is down... Derider, attacking people personally who you disagree with, isn't necessary, mate. A few years back, where there was a greater number of active 442 moderators, who were more vigilant, they used to ban people, or at least warn people for playing the man, not the ball. Constant transgressions led to a ban. If people talk about football, I uphold their right to proffer any opinion. If posters play the man, it wrecks discussion. Quickflick and I often disagree about football opinions, but we always debate the issue, we don't personally attack the other poster. If he is in my neck of the woods I'll buy him a beer one day! One of the notions of football forums, like 442, is to foster friendships, not conflict. You and I often concur on a view, but I've seen you stick the boot into a person we disagree with. It isn't necessary.
