Predictable tactics dont help, Uzbekistan worked us out within the first 5 minutes and apart from the conditioning advantage later in the match he did nothing to change it and we struggled to create anything clear cut apart from some long distance shots.

The rest of the teams will use this a blueprint in stopping us and its up to Arnie to find solutions otherwise it only takes an extra bit of quality to get that unconvincing defense of us worried on the counter.

Its nothing to do with having an off night, Uzbekistan worked us out and we could not find solutions.

This is what we are seeing agree.
IMO he keeps playing it too safe in the fear of being caught out on the counter, one due to the many young players and also the inconsistency of our CB's.
Sains is hot cold, Degenek has had his moments but in the end our GA is better than we all expected.
We the have slow build ups, many pass back sideways, he wants them to keep the ball but frustrating to watch.
Its working but........we have been lucky to date granted but credit has to go to the players and GA's team, most predicted out in the grp stage, I was 50/50.
Finding solutions ?, young players, first huge tournament for most I don't know how much more GA can impose on them tbh mentally.
We all thought this squad missing some key players would be done but he has driven them to this stage being simple but aggressive, thats what most opponents fear of us.
I can only imagine having Arzani/Boyle's/Nabbout taking on those back lines and Mooy delivering some balls where needed but then again this has lifted these guys like Mabil (barring the last game) for one, Ikon, Irvine has done his patchs of damage for eg.
Glad your GA temperature is little down since Jordan Davstar, we gave Ange a go surely we can with GA ?
As mentioned what wish list top end coach would take the gig ? none, our resource is down thanks FFA, catch22 where else do we go ? I'm preferring for some stability for now.

I had to calm down because i was raging that night!

I personally think we probably wont be able to attract a big name coach (however since Guus id argue we havent had a big name coach anyway we just over paid them!) to the national side simply because the squad is fairly weak by globe standards and our FFA are shambolic and incompetent. We also dont have unlimited funds to just pay someone to put up with all our shit. But if you ask me signing BVM for the world cup was a huge mistake but thats our FFA

I know 1.4million for a senior coach is average but i think GA shouldnt be on more then 700k a year. If there was a better option i still would prefer GA out because i think he isnt going to tactically get results against opposition that have a 'superior' squad but at this stage we have to accept that he is all we got and probably out side of Ange and Popa the best Australia has got... HOWEVER that doesn't make it 'acceptable' but it is the reality

I just can't see what justifies Arnold getting over twice the salary of Ange, $1.4m vs $650k.

Maybe Ange had a bonus for qualifying and Arnie just said no bonus, flat fee.

semi final should be the expectation for australia

i wonder if people will start giving ange the credit he deserves for his asian cup success?

Ange had us playing superior football too, Arnie seems to resort to long balls when we are under pressure. The tactics are the same as Sydney played, except they don't suit the players we have.

If you ask me they got it spot on.

Care to explain why?

we lost 2 games and drew one developed no players or coaches and it cost over 1 million dollars for a coaches 3 month stint? Probably the biggest waste of money since our world cup bid?

Tho im not a fan of GA it would of at least given him a chance to learn more about the squad and get some more tournament experience they did it for Ange in the previous WC...

To top it all off BVM is a good coach but by no way is he a tactical master mind he flopped with Holland

Lol how did he flop with Saudi Arabia?
Direct qualification for the first time since 2006, and that’s a flop? That’s like saying Pims qualification campaign (emphasis on the qualification) was a flop because.. well, the problems afterwards when he wasn’t at the helm.

Yeah I'm in the Arnold Out camp now.

There must be a certain criteria to uphold for Australia in the Asian Cup.

Losing to Jordan to only scrape through the group in 2nd, 0-0 with the luck of penalties to get past Uzbekistan, no answers against UAE even without Abdulrahman, Nobody should keep the job after these results.

Sacking Arnold is not going to change the lack of a goalscorer.
He might not be the best coach in the world but the team still created enough chances to win the games, just cannot finish.
He cannot be blamed for what Degenek did either.

Perhaps sacking Arnold is the right move but it will not solve our problems.

I don't blame Arnie for this loss but we really need to reassess our entire NT setup (mens and womens)...

That said, semis were probably a pass mark for this tournament and against UAE, we should have won.

I think our top squad could work well with the system tonight. Calm it down first. No doubt Arnold isn't the best coach in the world but I don't think there's anyone we can take a gamble on currently.
