P&R will fix it...........oh wait

But imagine how long Southend would have lasted if they were expected to keep up spending with Man City?

Pro rel lets clubs find their sustainable level organically, in most cases.

Oh cram it up your  ass decentric. He is 33 . He is nearing the tail end of his career . Why shouldn't he be free to play wherever he wants without a nobody like you calling him out . Still on your damn high horse.

Fair point. A lot of Australian players use this part of their career to cash in in the Middle East or China, but he's using it to fulfil his wish of experiencing English football. People should admire that.

P&R isn’t the issue.

The disparity of wealth between the top 6 and the rest of the EPL and the disparity of wealth between the rest of the EPL and the Football League is the issue.

Southend have been issued with a winding up order. Hopefully the club can survive and hopefully for Milligan’s sake, the players stay focused and try and climb out of the relegation zone.

This season alone, Bury has already been expelled from the Football League, Bolton were very close to being expelled and Coventry and a few other clubs are on the brink of going under.

This to me shows that the system in England is broken and the money in the English game needs to be distributed more evenly.

Sadly, you know nothing about which leagues have a reputation for developing players with a useful set of skills for international football, champ.

If you want to pontificate about performance in football you need to some serious research - or - even better, undertake some coach education.

It is blatantly obvious you know nothing about football performance to anyone with any semblance of genuine football nous.

The KNVB is one of the most reputable national coaching systems in the world in the global football fraternity. I assume you know where Holland is, and, the players they've produced over the years?

It was fine he captained the Socceroos at the AC but this is the time he must retire from the National Team. He plays in a position where we have the most depth so he would be keeping a quality player from developing in the team.

Midfield sure, but we're Swiss cheese in defence right now.

So this move loses him his captaincy and possibly even his spot in the socceroos squad?

Playing in League One, with a low level of tactical sophistication, is not going to advance one's career, even for launching into coaching.

I think it is a really regressive step for  Milligan.

Whilst in the SPL he faced some quality opposition  teams in Celtic and Rangers. Plus there were only 10 teams or so, with most if not all, better quality than all teams in League 1.

If Milligan was younger I would be inclined to agree however he's at the tail end of his career & the English pyramid has a considerable amount of money spread throughout the tiers so he'd be on decent coin.  I don't think tactical sophistication is something that he would be really interested in at this stage of his career.

Is Milligan the one with the squeaky high pitch voice? Imagine getting a blasting from that at half time.

So he’s joining the ‘shrimpers’. I don’t mind that at all at this stage of his career...he finally gets to play in England and most likely will do well in a future managing role.

Southend isn’t far from London at all so he and his family are likely to live on the eastern outskirts or in Essex.

Some interesting tidbits about Southend;

- Their stadium Roots Hill is built on a former landfill site

Roots Hall was the first stadium that the club owned and was built on the site of their original home, albeit at a lower level. The site previous to Southend purchasing it in 1952 had been used as a sand quarry, by the council as a landfill site and by the local gas board (which was convinced to move to Progress Road)

Although the ground was unfinished, during the inaugural season this was the least of the club's worries, for the pitch at Roots Hall showed the consequences of having been laid on top of thousands of tonnes of compacted rubbish. Drainage was a problem, and the wet winter turned the ground into a quagmire. The pitch was completely re-laid in the summer of 1956 and a proper drainage system, which is still in place, was constructed, and the West Bank roof was extended to reach the touchline, creating a unique double-barrelled structure.

- Wages for jobs based in Southend were the second lowest among UK cities in 2015. It also has the fourth highest proportion of people aged over 65.  It is the 11th most expensive place to live in Britain.

- Southend-on-Sea is home to the world's longest pleasure pier, built in 1830 and stretching some 1.34 miles (2.16 km) from shore.

Best of luck to him, hope the shrimpers can have a good run in the FA Cup.

Not only would he be a regular player but I'd imagine he'd be taking a leadership role pretty much right away, like he did at Hibs.

Yeah for sure. I think whoever he signed for he’d take on a leadership role.

I think too signing at a league one club with a goal of management he’s far more likely to maybe nab a youth team or assistant role job and in a best case scenario be groomed as a future manager for the club

Good luck to him, has nothing to prove in League 1 so surely this is in large part to a transition to coaching.

One thank you appearance in a home game against weak opposition in a World Cup qualifier would be nice then draw a line under an excellent Socceroos career.

Yeah for sure a championship team would have been nicer but I think he’s harboured ambitions of playing in England for a long time so it’s good that he’s achieving that. Also at his age I’d rather have him playing a level a bit below and being a regular than in and out of a championship side.

The coaching links will be interesting too

i reckon he will make a good manager when he retires

I think so, he seems to have the temperament and intelligence.

Maybe he'll take Southend to the EPL!

Remember hearing a journalist (maybe Hasset) saying Milligan has a great reading on the game, even discussing it in a tactical sense. Maybe will be a good coach.

This is true.

He doesn't need to play in League One though.

He will find it simplistic.

I've seen some videos of League One coaches giving some awful half time addresses. They were similar calibre to Mike Bassett's!
