It seems like Anderson could be injured.

Huge blow this test. But Archer won't be much easier to face next test.

I'm not sure he has the stamina or red ball experience? He hasn't bowled for more than 10 overs a day for nearly a year.

As we can see from Starc, white and red ball cricket are different. The bowling star of the World Cup has been dropped from the First Ashes Test.

Not that up with the mechanics of the two. But a swinging ball is determined by the seam position whereas a leg cutter is the finger action across the ball. Is that correct?

I think so.

Grazor should know when he comes on from Canada in a while.

Lol. Wait until you see his run up. It's ten to 15 metres. All his pace comes from his front leg bracing. Not run up based at all! He is no Mitch Starc. He has a short run up and stays upright without collapsing.

Then they have Wood to return from injury even if Archer gets injured...

Archer is deadly with the red ball. He has an outswinger and a lot of pace.

What is the scenario for England regarding wicketkeeping?

Jos Buttler kept in the WC and  is now fielding at bat pad, whilst Bairstow is now keeping whilst often fielding in the outer in the WC.

Bump for this one.

Does anyone know the English thinking?

Yes. Bairstow wants to be test keeper. He is adamant about it. His main threat is Ben Foakes. Who got Jonny dropped last year. Jonny is lucky to be in the team tbh.

Buttler is picked solely cos there are no English batsmen.

If you want more details I can provide them with article support. Bairstow was less than impressed when he lost the gloves to Foakes and Buttler both...

Foakes is the best gloveman - and has the best run average of Buttler and Bairstow in the last few years...

I've seen Archer bowl a bit. He played for the Hobart Hurricanes, but is slower through the air than Riley Meredith.

What impresses me about Archer is his lift off the pitch even off a decent length.

Archer is deadly. He is 145 to 150, slower than Meredith, but more accurate with an outswinger. He is a gun for the next decade. He will be a superstar of the future if he stays fit. Every pundit knows it.

Anderson is a blow - but I thought Archer would take Broad's spot before the series was over...

sounds a lively session! But we are definitely in it!

How much has the ball moved? Any thoughts on what a par score is?

Glad to see we chose siddle, cummins and patto. That will be a very tough pace trio!

Cos he opens. And is a gun ODI opener. Buttler is possibly the better gloveman, but Bairstow demands the gloves. So Buttler bats above Bairstow now in the test team without the gloves.

Foakes is the best keeper, miles ahead of Buttler and Bairstow both. And his batting record is impressive tbh.

Bairstow is on ODI form. Tbh. Buttler is in on test batting form...

England have depth everywhere bar BAR BARRRRRR specialist batsmen. Where they are sorely lacking.

The England top and middle order is a JOKE for 2.5 years. Want the stats? I can provide them. Its pathetic. NZ rolled them for 58, WI for 77 and Ireland, IRELAND for 85...

Just digressing, it was interesting to see your Kiwi express bowler, Lochie Ferguson, in the WC. He was very fast, but his action takes a  lot out  of him and I doubt he would have the stamina to play red ball cricket.

You also had another express bowler, Ian Milne, a short time ago.

You mean Adam Milne. He is still around. Injured for the Cup but wrecking England FC scene. He won't handle test cricket imo. Only shorter forms.

Lockie can bowl faster all day compared to Milne. He may replace Tim Southee in the Aus tests later in the year that are not day nighters.

Lockie is fast. But no real threatening swing or seam. Just short balls and yorkers. Bit like Starc.

When Anderson bowled, the ball moved a lot. He only lasted 4 overs and seems to be injured.

A 37 year old leading the attack is asking for trouble.

Oh - he can bowl 155+... And is recorded doing so...

But yeah - Adam Milne is an injury machine. Always goes down injured....

I don't see him surviving test cricket unless something near miraculous happens.

He doesn't have the physical strength of Binga or Thommo...

Bit more pressure on Broad bowling now if Anderson is injured.

He needs to bowl well. Stokes and Ali were a bit loose.

Unlike many - I love ODI cricket. I'm not a total purist.

But its great to have some test cricket taking the headlines again.

Even if NZ isnt involved.

I lvoe test cricket in England.

So exciting. For several days.
