+xWE all have to be honest here, if we end up at the ABC, it's because no one else wants us. To be with the only channel that doesn't allow any form of advertising, which only shows 2nd tier sports as a general rule, cannot be viewed as a good thing. It really doesn't matter. It's up to the A-league and the teams themselves to do the advertising now. If GoT were on ABC you think people wouldn't watch because it's not the most popular FTA channel? Provided the quality is good, people will come in time.

The commercial networks have quite rightly, based on the figures from last season, formed the view that a commercially viable television broadcast audience for the A League doesn't exist. That itself is a result of endless mismanagement from FFA, beginning with Lowy snr's distastrous tilt at the WC windmill, which starved the A League of managment resources at a critical time. I really don't know how the competition recovers from a last ditch position like the ABC. The message is blindingly obvious. The A League is very, very lucky that Fox was locked into such a long contract, because I doubt that another deal would be forthcoming if renewal was now.

+xThe A-League could be headed to ABC if speculation in The Australian proves correct. Rumours suggest that while FOX Sports will continue to broadcast all A-League, W-League, Socceroos and Matildas matches none of the commercial FTA networks bid for the rights with the Football Federation of Australia. The Australian suggests a new deal with the ABC will see an A-League game broadcast on ABC at 5pm on Saturday while the W-League would return to the network at 4pm on Sundays under a possible two-year deal. This would also put ABC in the running to pick up free-to-air rights for Socceroos qualifiers and the Matildas international friendlies. If it comes to pass that the ABC has both the W-League & A-League, and then gets Socceroo & Matilda matches .... that has the potential to be very beneficial . The ABC, aside form its FTA broadcasting, has the largest radio network in the country and one of the biggest streaming platforms.. FFA stuffed both the last FTA deals.... 10 or CBS where in open warfare with Fox and were forced to take the A-League and provided no promotion... the SBS deal was stuffed up on both sides at the start but FFA openly saying they did not want SBS and talking about 9, and giving the Asian cup to the ABC was arguably the biggest media mistake of any code in living memory... Gallop should have been fired over his management of the SBS relationship... while SBS IMO anyway were being difficult in many ways equally they we not hopeless .... Gallop needed to explain and provide analysis rather than try to demand SBS bend to his wants.. My fear is the ABC will be seen as a short term solution and not a long term broadcast partner... If we go with the ABC for A-League, W-League, Socceroo & Matilda matches then lets embrace the ABC, as they have huge and varied broadcast platforms .. Never forget they also have a huge influence with all governments as well as within the broader media industry. If we get the ABC broadcast then we need indy hal & FFA to do everything they can to support the ABC.... If this happens.... I hope we don't stuff up

Yeah , this is podcast though. Don't take it personal . On TV she's quite respectful and professional. She is a fan of the game too.

+x[quote]Ironic that Lucy Z uses such a profoundly misogynistic metaphor to denigrate the A League when she has herself been horribly trolled by misogynistic males in the past.
She contributed to a national team coach losing their job & slandered him by insinuation. But yeah it's all the fault of those men.

+xIronic that Lucy Z uses such a profoundly misogynistic metaphor to denigrate the A League when she has herself been horribly trolled by misogynistic males in the past. She's one bitter, angry lady, and this quote neatly illustrates just why she was the wrong person for the job at SBS - it's inaccurate, emotive, tasteless, offensive, unprofessional and lacking in any semblance of sound judgement. While she is at it likening the A League to a "desperate woman" in a bar, she might consider whether her notorious Twitter profile pic might be, under the circumstances, a notably ill-judged piece of image branding. Hit the nail on the head here. SBS don't do anything for football anymore, but I guess the next smug, self-righteous essay from Lucy about how SBS built football in this country is just around the corner. To quote Eddie Murphy: "What have you done for me lately?"

+x+x+x+x+xJust in case SBS' relationship with the A-League hadn't hit rock bottom, latest quote from Lucy Zelic (tweeted by Michael Cain): "Pormoting the A-League at the moment would be like pudhing shit up a hill. When it comes to tv rights - this code is like the desparete woman at the bar at the end of the night." Seriously? You got a link to that?? https://twitter.com/caineyten/status/1174966367872663552?s=20 Man she sounds bitter ... and yet ABC will go where SBS won’t? If only we knew what she knew... When it comes to tv rights - this code is like the desparete woman at the bar at the end of the night." It’s funny because it’s true There's a bit of truth to it, but, it's complicated. Gallop and Lowy left the new board and the clubs with this deal, where basically Fox controls everything. But - Fox paid for the privilege. So here we are, not many options, but at least we have 3 or 4 years of what now looks like a pretty good broadcast deal in monetary terms (but still a flawed deal). I believe someone else will emerge in the future to broadcast the A-League, but we might be hoping for the same amount of money, at best. I believe a single deal with Fox suited both Fox and Lowy/Gallop who were happy to maintain the establishment. As a deal it was anti-competitive and quite frankly lazy from the FFA who showed no appetite to generate their own content (a key lesson from the EPL was to generate your own content to increase competition and quality) Indy-HAL should look to generate revenue from: Overseas rights. STV rights. Streaming rights. Mobile rights. FTA. YouTube. Highlights Show. Right nis ghe FFA gave is one desk with Fox who then negotiate with everyone else, and possibly an overseas deal. Done right they’ll get more $$$ next time around.

+x+xNomates is just a terrible troll. No way am I trolling, You all say the FTA games wont rate because of We||ington, but the truth is FTA has never rated even when the Nixs were banned from FTA on SBS. However I do believe being on ABC the games should rate higher then Ch10. So what's your position on Brisbane again?

+x+x+x+xJust a thought bubble... I wonder if the ABC would consider showing the 4pm Sunday game on weekends when the Nix are scheduled to play on saturday at 5:15? a mix of FTA timeslots would give potential FTA bidders a bit of a cross section of ratings numbers going forward. It could benefit everyone involved. +xAgree on home games, but not away games. nope. nada. nil. zero. a big fat 0. with 1 game per week on FTA, we need to give as much FTA publicity to the Australian based teams on Australian TV as possible. We had no Nix in the 1st FTA deal with SBS and look how bad the ratings were! It was just Aus teams only and it failed big time thxs to clubs like Bris Roar and CCM. The less we see of SFC and MV the better we are off. Not as bad as they were on 10. I'm genuinely curious. What is your issue with the Roar? Nothing really, but being the only club in QLD I think they should lift there game instead of drifting near the spoon every year, what ever happened to Roarcelonia?(what ever//) Not sure which league you've been watching, the roar have only been near the wooden spoon twice in 14 seasons. The reality is that the Roar's results are not only good but much more consistent when compared to most other clubs. - 18/19 - 9th

Maybe bring in some more Kiwi teams to boost the metrics.
