+xComparison Japan v Mongolia 4-0 up at 41' For me team had a lack of cohesion, Behich and Grant had a few moments but were both generally poor. Goodwin on that performance won't be starting. Too much space between the CBs. Mooy dropped a few cogs compared to his performance against Tottenham. Irvine doesn't work well in tight space as was the case tonight. Maclaren does what Maclaren does Poach. Next game my starting XI would be GK Ryan DF Wright (RB), Degenek, Souttar, Smith (LB) HM Milligan AM Hrustic, Mooy RW Leckie, Giannou, Mabil Bro, Wright is not a RB. Can everyone on here get this stupid idea out of their minds. He lasted 30 minutes there under BWM. the idea is dead. Grant is the best we have

Are we still playing with the same shade of yellow/gold like in Russia? It appears more of a banana yellow now. Maybe it's the floodlights or TV brightness.

+xJust done with work. Will watch kayo to see what all the fuss was. Evidence of Behich lacking match time. A shame to hear Goodwin was rusty. Will see for myself. Goodwin is always rusty. He hasn't had a good season since Adelaide won the title.

+x+xIn good news, Souttar is a real find which leaves Sainsbury as a viable CB and CDM option when Milligan finally retires. I think Degenek, Souttar, Sainsbury and Wright are the top 4 with their ability and versatility. Thoughts on selected players. Souttar - good that he’s locked in now, I think he will develop over the next few years, remember he’s only 20. I wouldn’t be confident in him defensively v Japan, Korea, Iran etc at the moment, but he has potential. Wright - always looks dodgy in my opinion, and tonight was no different. Passing is slow, lacks pace, should only be used in emergencies. Behich - abysmal tonight, very poor crossing, gave the bell away a lot considering the standard of the opposition. A lack of club games over the past season and a half as caused a severe degeneration in his performance, time for Brad Smith to be given an opportunity. Milligan - always frustrates me as so many times his first touch when he receives the ball from the centre backs is backwards. Time for him to be retired from the national team. Irvine - think he is better as an 8/ball winning midfielder who immediately gives the ball to someone more creative. Don’t think playing as 10 is his strength, he doesn’t have the technical skills for it and the higher field positioning detracts from him being able to make late runs into the box. Maclaren - even though he got the hat trick and I like him as a club player, I think Taggart/Giannou are better options for Australia. Goidwin - reinforced my negative view of him, should never be selected again in my opinion. Hrustic - looked good in the time he was on. It gives me some hope that he could develop into a useful creative player for Australia. Souttar - too soon. Will be interested to see how he fares against a quick counter attack side (given his size and bulk I think he may struggle speed wise) Wright - have to agree. Not up to it Behich - his crossing has never been a strong suit for him, if Arnold wants to play wing backs then crossing is a MUST for that position Milligan - I think his time has come. We have enough other players I feel who can play that position who are better on the ball, faster and better passers (Milligan's reading of the game his big pro) Irvine - agree. He was almost deployed as a second striker. Giannou definitely made a difference when he came on in that role (and let Irvine sit deeper, Irvine's late runs are a key aspect of many of his goals) Maclaren - just doesn't suit our play, or probably a better way of saying it is that Australia don't look for him in attack. I think he again worked better when Giannou came on, he works well with a bigger striker next to him against teams that sit deep (I'd say the same for Taggart too). Goodwin - for me he has always been a player who plays a blinder or is invisible. Too inconsistent, and I think it will cost him his place Hrustic - would like to have seen more of him (Mabil and him showed some good touches when they came on)

+x+x+xThis reminds me of when we used to play teams from the OFC Yeah- Nepal play a similar game to the Solomon Islands, and look about the same standard. Except we won those games 32-0 13-0 was the biggest score against the Solomons. The Solomons back in the day had better individual players than Nepal, but Nepal are better organised tactically.

They only had the rights for this confirmed a few days before the match. It takes more than just snapping your fingers to assemble all that for broadcast television.

Yeah none of that annoys me too much, most the time I can't stand the shit they waffle on pre and post game. Just would have been nice to be shown live across Australia.

Why are always not good at creation chances in open play even against lower quality opponents? 2 of the 5 came from good play the rest from set pieces.
Kuwait was the same too.
We definitely need Rogic and Arzani back to help us in that front.
Good to see MacLaren score even if was easy to score to be fair.
Good crowd and atmosphere, the Nepal community could be a useful source in our evolving football community as they mad about football more so than its neighbours in the sub continent region.

Creative players or players willing to take on an opponent with speed are somewhat rare for us at the moment and these two at least fit this criteria. Rogic has creativity, and Arzani had creativity and pace, let’s hope he still does. So we have a handful of players that can set up or score goals from open play and we need them all fit and firing if we make it to the second round of qualifiers.

Once Gallop is gone, Arnold won't have a crutch to stand on.

+xHrustic looks very promising. I’m a fan of the confidence he carries himself with. He's at a good place to develop when you think Arjen Robben and Virgil van Dijk came from Groningen's academy. Japan's Ritsu Doan did really well there too.

+x+xHope Brad Smith starts the next game. It'd be nice to see how he plays when he's had game time since we've never seen that from him before. Behich can't buy a cross Has never had a good cross and if he got his head up and looked he would see players unmarked in the box for cutbacks but instead he plays stupid little dinks to no one or at best striker that is well marked.

+x+xSomeone needs to teach our players how to play a one touch ball. So many openings are squandered as they need the first touch to control the ball before passing. Terrible. Not sure that they're gonna learn it at this age. It's more a matter for skill acquisition during a player's teenage years Exactly

Souttar - good target but can he defend?. Happy to cap. Wright - backup at best Behich - very poor - a long way back.. Milligan - Maybe he would have better next to Souttar - poor in the midfield. Irvine - better when Giannou came on and he dropped a little deeper. Maclaren - I have Boyle when fit, Giannou and Taggart in front of him. Goodwin - showed enough to never play for the NT again. Hrustic - looked much better than Goodwin - happy to lock him in.

It was a solid and convincing win but what do we need to do to get more clinical? 5-0 (really 6-0) is great but we need to do better than Kuwaits 7-0.
Arnie was throwing on more attackers but it should have ended much higher for us.

It's more a matter for skill acquisition during a player's teenage years Exactly The current crop never through the supposedly bad FFA NC SAP programs teaching fundamental technical skills from the ages 8-12 like what the current kids are getting now. It just shows how bad youth development was in the past, perspective isn’t it?

Plenty of Jordan Kuwait livestreams. 0:0 after 28. Quite interesting how Kuwait seem to fancy their chances here and have much different body language to our game. It seems we need the early goals to knock their confidence.
