Wookie What's your gut tell you about streaming across new platforms... I can't see Fox or Fox cable for sport being around in 5 years.... it also seems to me anyway that because there is so much sport, including E-sport that being on FTA is becoming less important in terms of growing a market ... love you'er thoughts...

+x I have no idea idea. Maybe that's the model for the A League after the Fox deal expires.
there are some benefits to doing your own production (if you can afford it). You can broaden your reach by broacasting on multiple platforms or open yourself up to platforms that wouldn't realistically have bidded for games in the past. eg. If we did our own production from 2022 onwards, that might temp Optus into buying the rights. or someone like youtube. or even a FTA network.

Good points, but I do wonder what these sorts of social media providers will pay for it (if they will want to pay anything at all) I know they are getting into this space, but I'm yet to hear of any face-melting media deals

Fox needs to take a good hard look at its modelling if its still taking losses after all this time. Streaming figures arent currently making up for lost viewers - although its worth noting that the AFLs FTA figures are well up this year, I think Netballs were as well. BBL ratings down due mostly to less visibility after being partially siphoned off to Fox. Streaming might be the future, but its a long way from overshadowing FTA in terms of live sport, and even Foxtels terriestrial/Go! numbers hold up over streaming (Now/Kayo etc) at the moment based on the figures we know at this point.

OzTAM don’t calculate that unless you can point out where they say they do? I got got to meet with FFA Marketing last year along with BRFC staff - in their presentation on match rating (for Roar) they had the OzTAM figure plus the reported GO figure separately. (GO was typically 1-5k only)

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/sports-rights-now-make-up-26-percent-global-content-spend-1247865Sports Rights Now Make Up 26 Percent of Global Content SpendOnline platforms have begun to enter the market but are still very minor players. But Alexios Dimitropoulos, a senior analyst at Ampere, believes the new SVOD wave will not drive down sports rights. "Although there are significant competitive pressures on TV revenues due to the rise of new online competitors, the impending direct-to-consumer fragmentation of the market may also open up opportunities for sports rights bodies — who will increasingly hold some of the few premium rights that money can still buy."

This is worth a read. NINE trying to “level the playing field” which has big implications (if they’re successful) on future content valuation: https://which-50.com/nine-to-launch-virtualoz-in-february-2020/

On Foxtel, Saturday nights Melbourne derby was the highest rating match of the round with 60,000 tuning in, while the opening game between Adelaide and Sydney FC rated 52,000. +xThe real story is why are the Roos only rating 36k? Mean while the Rugby World Cup is rating every game above 100k! That's why they will get there $80-100m a year TV deal next.

Ratings have halved from their highs. Foxtel subscriptions have no doubt reduced, but i doubt they have halved. All those EPL Optus subscibers and HAL streamers presumably make up the missing 50%.

I know your lights aren’t exactly on most of the time but you do realise that the RWC (which I’m watching avidly) is not out-rating the soccer World Cup and even the Matilda’s ratings at 5AM out-rate all but the Wallabies?
