+x+x+xTommy Semmy, the PNG striker currently tearing it up in NZ has been given a one week trial, hopefully he does well. Not sure how you can actually assess a player in 1 week Maybe it’s also a trial for him to see how he likes the team/living in Wellington? he lives in hamilton at the moment, how different from wellington would that be? If you've ever been to Hamilton.... a lot different. I'd say the point is to have Uffie actually see him play; maybe involve him in the FFA Cup if possible (not sure how the logistics would work)

To answer the question about trialing, Uffie can trial him so why not? How much do your employers see after a twenty minute job interview?

+x+xHow’s Luke DeVere looking guys? Old and slow. He's the Dura replacement in more ways than one. I haven't seen the local pre season games, only the Brisbane Strikers game and he was done a little for pace (especially in the 2nd half when Strikers brought on someone super quick). Our tactics are having to be setup to take into account deficiencies in our main defensive pairing - pace.

Wellington Phoenix consider move for Japanese striker Hiroyuki Takasaki A veteran J-League striker has emerged as Wellington Phoenix's latest transfer target as the club continues its hunt for a goal-scorer. After missing out on former Melbourne Victory star Besart Berisha, who opted to join Wellington's round one opponents Western United, the Phoenix have turned their attention to 33-year-old Hiroyuki Takasaki. The most prolific spell of Takasaki's career occurred between 2016 and 2017, where he scored 36 goals across in all competitions. But he has struggled to replicate that goal-scoring form upon his return to the top-flight, going 17 consecutive games without scoring in 2019.
Earlier this week, Phoenix coach Ufuk Talay said he was hopeful of having his final signing across the line before their season opener against Western on October 13. "It's still ongoing at the moment. Hopefully we'll finalise it by the end of this week, that's what I'm hoping for. We're very close at this stage, a few little things to fix up and then we should be OK, I'm hoping," he said. "There's a few rumours going around but we've looked at a lot of players, we're trying to make sure we get the right one that complements the players that we have currently. We try to have a balance of different attributes up front." The transfer window closes on October 15. https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/football/a-league/116269881/wellington-phoenix-consider-move-for-japanese-striker-hiroyuki-takasaki

His goal scoring in the NZ prem league is ok but if you look a little closer he just is not the player you think he is.

Looks like it's a player signing. If WSW can pull out Muller so late in the game, who knows maybe Nix can pull something out of their hat as well.

That deal fell through, so still a free agent.

For the Horses Mouth a hours later than last prediction! CovertAgent : I believe that Wellington Phoenix will announce the signing of English striker Gary Hooper today. A quality acquisition. The club was close to signing him in August but the deal fell through.

This would arguably be our best signing since Ifill, in terms of pedigree. Taylor similar but he came from League 1, and as a defender isn't as exciting

Looks like we've done the right thing in holding off until the last minute - apparently we were close to signing a Chilean or Japanese striker, both didn't have nearly the pedigree of Hooper.
