Thought a thread should be made for this country’s premier youth league. To start with, today Roar beat Victory 7-0 (Muratovic hat trick), and Sydney beat Newcastle 8-3 (Tilio hat trick, Swibel goal + 2 assists). Anyone go to the games?

Those are some concerning results. Shipping that many goals shows some significant defensive challenges.
Some good goal scoring stats though :)

Some good goal scoring stats though :) Definitely. Especially with the Jets - SFC game - the respective goalkeepers Noah James and Adam Pavlesic are supposed to be two of Australia’s best youngsters. Not saying they were at fault for the goals, as I haven’t seen them - but just a thought.

There is always two sides to story in football.

Are victory's best Y-League players helping out the first team this weekend? Could that explain such a huge loss or are they just a bad crop?

Those players are all A-League players in reality though - Victory are just bad.

why arent there highlights for Y-league games? And I mean proper highlights, not that shitty wide angle view that team use for analysis.

Pretty sure every NPL was streaming each state’s top division week in and out. Could very easily make some sort of season membership for viewers. Give these young lads some decent exposure across the country, potentially even international and with scouts. But the FFA would need to care about youth development for that, I suppose.

Went to the SFC - Jets game.
The Jets seem to have recruited exclusively on size. They were all big and strong, and consequently had little by way of skill.
Both team's defences were very poor. SFC does have an excellent midfield though and were running rings around the Jets for most of the game. Score was 4-1 after 20 mins, crazy. Two own goals from the Jets from balls whipped in to teh box. Jets scored twice from set pieces with a tall player getting on the end of a cross, and once from a tap in when Pavlesic could only parry the ball in front of him.
Sydney's strikers actually didn't have a good game. Swibel was hopeless. He's all power, no skill or brains. We should cut him and let long ball teams work with him. Koop was rarely involved. Tilio rarely touched the ball for the first 50 mins yet scored a hat trick from 3 through balls that ripped the Jets defence apart allowing him to slot past the keeper each time. This is where he plays best - not as a left midfielder. He needs to be making runs in behind the defence and use his pace and technique to score.
Teague was MOM, bossed the midfield and got a goal of a free kick that deflected off the wall to go in. Mlinaric looked a cut above the other defenders but still made some very poor mistakes. Peupion only came on in the last 10 and didn't get much of a chance to show what he can do.
For the Jets their number nine looked decent, but that's about it. It could have easily been 10-12 goals for SFC today if they didn't try to walk it into the back of the net so much and just pulled the trigger.
Very shocked to see the Jets picking such a poor squad though. Lawrie was there, though seemed to leave at halftime, or maybe went into a box. Surely he won't accept such rubbish.

Cheers for the update Kaufusi. It seems as though through your observations that Teague (and seemingly Mlinaric) have boosted in confidence since coming back from the WC, which is very promising to see. Regarding the Jets' squad, it seems as though they just promoted a bunch of lads from the U20's and said go out there and try your best. The NPL NNSW has a few young lads who played extremely well last season for their respective sides that I thought would've been given a crack at the Jets' NYL squad, but clearly the budget cutting is affecting even the youth procedures.

Most of the SFC players are 17. To be fair this comp is still a silly little tournament, and not the primary youth leagues for any of these teams.

Perth drew with Melbourne City 6-6 (!) - goals from Kerrin Stokes, Raphael Borges Rodrigues x2, Stefan Colakovski, Moudi Najjar and Jordi Valadon. Unclear who scored for Perth. CCM scored a late pen to draw with Sydney 3-3 - goals from Tilio x2, Swibel for Sydney and Kuol x2 and Roberts for CCM.

Awesome to see high scoring games, can imagine if they were streamed or telecasted as the games look to be very entertaining.
