Thought it would be much less given the weather event an hour and a half before. I was one of many lined up along the gateway waiting for it to clear. Just goes to show how good the Lang Park pitch is it looked like it hadn't rained at all. Meanwhile down the road, Doomben night races were abandoned after race 3. Disappointing as probably would have hit over 10k which would be some achievement with the way we are playing at the moment.

+xLooks like the new regime has "saved" the league again... There was a pretty big freakish storm that hit 1 hour before kick off. I was thinking of staying home but I decided to go.

In season 3, every single team except MV experienced a bigger average attendance. They didnt all finish first either Yet in this thread a lot of comments are "x team is on top so their crowds should be good, x team is not first so their fans are exempt from attending" The reason why the BBL (and to some extent the WBBL) is so successful is because fans enjoy the actual sport. Its about going to the game with your mates or family and having a good day out 12k for MV is terrible regardless of table position. And this excuse masks the real issue which is a decline in interest right across the board The league needs to be looking at emulating a season 3 where fan bases are improving top to bottom because there is genuine interest in the league itself. It's as plain as day an open league with big teams will have a bigger impact right across the league compared to the current model

It will be interesting to see if MV average attendance this season drops below season 6 where attendance was 15,058 average.

Two things worth noting about Glory: 1. Coming off an excellent season, so would not expect a drop off 2. their attendances were actually better in the NSL, which is extraordinary.

When Sydney FC came to town in Melbourne it’s was the must see event in Victoria which is why 50,000 turned up that night. The atmospheres the games generated were fresh and not really seen in the public eye before which drew new fans in droves.

Say it again... 3rd day in a row over 40. 36 at the kick off. I wouldn't go. Time to start talking about moving to the winter.

We seem to have been squashed in by competing codes which is creating headaches at every turn. Would we be able to move our season to winter? Unlikely, as RL and AFL dominate the landscape, even down to ground availability. What will happen in 2022 if we make the World Cup? Will the season be paused?
Overall, I currently just can’t see much light at the end of the tunnel. We will likely need to right size the demands on the game, including costs and expectations, which we can then try and rebuild from.

Weather was no excuse at Perth, it was played at 6:45, once the sun started going down it cooled right down and was actually quite nice. Now why the fuck are our next two home games at 4:30?

Tickets were $10 back then...now they at least $35. I don't understand how people keep forgetting this key issue. I remember going to Sydney United and Marconi Stallions home games every weekend and being able to afford it. I wasn't even a fan of either club but lived in the area and loved going. I was only around 12 years old and watched every home game of both clubs plus Fairfield Bulls home games in the Super League. The only way I'd miss a home game of either club was if they played on the same day. Good luck these days if at that age your parents can afford for you to attend so many games. Ticket prices shouldn't be anywhere near what the other codes cost, yet in some cases we have more expensive tickets, it's a fucking joke when trying to grow the popularity of the game.

That would be a valid point if the attendances havent been consistently poor all season This forum tends to analyse each game individually and then reel off reasons why it was lower than the imaginary figure it should have been. Yet we see similar attendances for clubs week after week, and in past seasons. We also dont see attendances in other summer codes halve due to the heat

Yet we see similar attendances for clubs week after week, and in past seasons. We also dont see attendances in other summer codes halve due to the heat I guess. Too much end of days premonition for any perceived attendance. It is important to look at factors that impact attendance. This is not England with generational connections and endless streams of marketing. Weather, times, transport, importance of contest and rivalry or lack of all are factors whether people will attend games. Just want to see improvements in strategies to ensure clubs stay viable and the game can organically grow. It will take time hopefully we have the right people in charge.
