"SOCCEROOS RADAR

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold revealed that an off-Broadway trio of overseas-based Olyroos were on his senior radar for 2020.

Arnold spent considerable time abroad scouting in 2019 and said Wollongong born left-footer stopper Dylan Ryan, defensive midfielder Josh Laws and ex-Brisbane Roar midfielder Zach Duncan could be knocking on the Socceroos door.

“There’s a couple in the Olyroos not many people know about, there’s defender Dylan Ryan at Willem II, who are (fourth) in the top league, Josh Laws at Fortuna Dusseldorf (reserves) number 6 very impressive and Zach Duncan has gone up to another level at AGF in Denmark,” Arnold said."

Interesting also to note that Stoke are looking to recall Souttar from his loan. Would be great to see him challenge himself in the Championship.

I've been thinking Delbridge should get a look-in for a while now. Seems a pretty smart footballer too. Very good in the air... Except for letting 5 foot nothing Fornaroli beat him on the weekend. To be fair though Bouzanis should have taken that easily, and you could see Delbridge going off at him for not coming.

he's a good fit. fresh face, in form, experienced, aerially dominant, playing under a positive attacking coach.

the bar for CB's in the NT is low atm. i'd like to see a couple a-league defenders bought in to make the other boy earn their spot.

I think Dellbridge has a shot. Susnjar is resting now but should stake a strong claim when Korea resumes. Thankfully Sainsbury is playing full matches and can start to build that strength again.

I’m surprised Ikon is benched at Glory?

With some attacking stats I did at the Asian Cup, Ikon was the most prolific Socceroo at both  playing balls into the pen box, or, running with the ball into the pen box.

Ikon also worked well and combined effectively with others in attacking interplay.

His attacking impetus was impressive.

Maybe he hasn’t recovered full fitness from injury?

I think he’s being dropped to the bench due to poor form, to the credit of Chianese he’s taken he’s chances quite well.

Watching  the replay of the City game, astonishingly Delbridge has been dropped to the bench!

Can't see Arnold bringing in too many changes for the games in 4 weeks.

Biggest questions are:

Will Elder finally come in?
Are Holland and Rukavytsya finally going to be selected on merit?
Luongo, Behich and Leckie are lacking fitness. Do they sit this big journey out?
Should Glover miss out in minutes for Roos exposure? I say no and get Fed or some other reserve in.

My squad

Ryan, Langerak, Federici

Grant Sainsbury Degenek Souttar Deng Elder Smith

Mooy Rogic Hrustic Amini Irvine Holland Goodwin

Mabil Taggart Maclaren Giannou Boyle Rukavytsya

Just feel a more merit based squad will send some signals. It could make or break the dressing room by destroying some of the entitlement a few players seem to have and get the mindset right that spots must be earned.

Sorry, imo Glover should be nowhere near senior national team discussion at this time, even just to give him exposure to the squad and system. He has done nothing yet to suggest he will be a frontline candidate in the future.

Arzani should be brought back into the squad, at least so Arnie and the national team staff can assess his recovery. It would also be good to get him back around his Socceroos team-mates. If he ends up getting fifteen or twenty minutes in one of the matches, then that would be a bonus.

The howler in the derby was bad. A few little issues for the U23. He's got time to fine tune a lot of it. He should keep playing for City. Federici for this window.

Jones over Federici.
Could be worth giving Arzani a run. The likes of Leckie and Borrello will be called up.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Fair point but my selections didn't want to ring in too many changes. Arnold won't do that. Deng did well for the Olyroos. I'm glad Garuccio is playing again.

Garuccio!? Seriously?

He is an ok A-League LB and nothing more. He’s not a bad player but he probably is the worst LB AU have had in a number of years. Elrich, Goodwin were all better and Maria probably is as well.

Edit: Galloway is better as well but I forgot about him.

Agree.

He’d probably be warming the bench at most other HAL clubs tbh.

If we are looking at calling up a youngish keeper, then Izzo should be called up considering he is probably one of the best Aussie keepers in the league now.

100% we need to at least see where he is... maybe a good performance might get him a move lined up for the summer too.

Information that Australia may arrange a Euro based friendly if our qualifiers get postponed. Decent chance of a Euro camp and a rushed friendly somewhere against someone. It's all very unfortunate and actually throws so much out of whack.

No travel ban for Kuwait and there's only one confirmed case in Nepal (if that's even where the game will be) so it would be frustrating if they did get postponed.

Exactly. I think as many games should be played as possible.

Is it wrong to have Asian teams fly to play elsewhere? I mean they want to prevent travel in general so it defeats the purpose. They don't want anyone, be it fans, players or officials congregating in many parts of the world.
