Why not go after both?

I think it's important for our club to start next season with a new coach and new hooker at the same time. 

They will both come with no previous coached baggage and are more likely to transform our attacking plays from the ruck than if there is an existing player there who is use to old habits (JMK). 

Since Katoa has only played few games he might escape getting bogged down to our awful forwards play and may be able to start afresh next season. But getting a Brandon Smith player would be a huge revelation to this team. Katoa can be a good backup dummy and they both can slot into backrow interchangeably.

After thinking about it overnight B Smith is exactly what we need even more than JAC.

B Smith will win games provided his body lasts, JAC entertains, brings in crowds, new fans and sponsors...

B Smith there is no gamble on trying him in a new position...

JAC there is  a gamble but only for 4-5 weeks.

The problem with DWZ wasn't trying him at fullback, it was keeping him at fullback.

If an experiment is a disaster 3 weeks in a row, that is all the evidence you need.

The club has to explain to the player, they are getting a chance, selection in the side in any position is not guaranteed.
If we can't do that then I'll join the no voters.

They key thing here is that there arent many top money players available for next season and whilst that may change with players pushed out or them getting themselves sacked, we have to take what's on offer and even pay stupid money for it too. In fact, I'd even front load him and then make it cheaper in 2022 and 2023

I doubt we’d get him for 500k. Remember the amount of money The Tigers are famous for throwing at players. And as we shouldn’t try to compete with their lunacy, if it’s about money he’ll be overpaid at The Tigers.

The best hope we’d have is if the Madge horror stories scare him off.

And no stupid promises of FB from us either. The bloke’s the best winger In the world, he comes to us it’s to play wing for best winger in the world money - whatever that is.... and if we think it’s important enough to have the best winger in the world on best winger in the world money.

Of which I’m not so sure given other priorities. Be nice but....

If he can't play fullback, he is a good winger.

He has to earn the fullback spot... speed fixes a lot of issues, but it doesn't guarantee that he can pass.

JAC shouldnt be brought in for fullback role.
What you want JAC to do is score length of field tries and take advantage of situations we currently don't do. He can do that on the wing and theres nothing wrong with paying him 500k to do it.

Ch7 tonight mentioned that the Dogs are making a serious play for B Smith from the Storm

I don't remember seeing him in many situations where he needed to pass. Mostly he just puts the ball down over the tryline.

One thing to check is if he played fullback or in the halves as a junior.

I  agree with this ... 3-4 top players are need to keep players happy so all contracts are reasonable.

Elliott, Averillo, and Cotric have some pulling power.

Throw in Jacko, RFM, Doorey, Odgen, Renouf T... most players can see we are a good half and prop away from being s competive side. 

But the Fox brings xfactor, excitement and puts bums on seats in the crowd.

Of course it has to work from a SC point of view, the Fox is the icing not the cake.

Cmon mate you’re talking about a player that has spent his whole first grade career not passing... that a fullback don’t make in 2020...

Look at our side if we let Foz go, Cotric and Thompson would be our only high priced players.

Price is the best attribute of the rest.

We need to put money aside Odgen, Renouf T and Doorey will soon need a upgrade.

All sides have 4-5 higher priced players look at the Storm, Roosters, Raiders and Panthers.

So I'm  signing The Fox, Burton and a tough hombre forward, let Foz and Tolman go don't pay overs for the rest of our squad and make do with the hookers we have got.

The rebuild is a 3 year process. 
It can be done in 2 years but we need our target player contracts to end in the next year or so and us to be able to get them at the right price.

To gain some supporter fanfare, you need speed or xfactor players. Forwards are not going to build your membership base and bring excitement.

JAC will. You pay him, you get him and you use his profile to boost your fanbase and to lure other players to your club. 

I think Tolman is now 2 tries away from being our seasons TOP TRY SCORER....

A shot at fullback is reasonable, money is always a matter of working out our priorities.
Money is much the same whatever position he plays...

Depending on the team setup, I have no problem giving JAC $500k for 2 seasons. He will single handedly win you games you will otherwise lose.

The way i see it, we dont have ANY players other than maybe Foran who is worth more than 500k and we have money to spend.

Until we start filling in the spots that would normally command upwards of 500k, we may as well give it to a match winner.
