Its smart Investment for Charlotte FC, and should be looked at by A league teams, the only thing that might hamper this is loan salaries counting towards the cap.

Its a win-win situation for them unless Riley cops massive injuries.

Sign a quality young player, loan him out to a club and league where he will hopefully get game time and further develop.

Either they sell him for a profit with a sell on clause for any future transfers, or they have themselves a 23/24 year old starting midfielder who is primed to go for their first season.

This could work for an A league club, sign a youngster that is a possible A league standard type of player, loan them out to a better league, sell them for profit. Or have them return and you have yourself a player who is hopefully better than the youngster you signed. (I know I have over simplified it heaps)

But why aren't clubs utilising the international markets to get transfer fees for there foreign players? Besides Adrian Mierzejewski has any other club received a fee for one of there foreigners?

Two words for that, salary cap.

Again the aleague clubs dont plan for the longer haul with players, no wonder they miss out on so much money from overseas transfers.

Some clubs do. AU have a bunch of young players on 3 year deals with a view of selling them overseas.

Funnily enough, the club’s chairman is pro salary cap.

So why dont other clubs dont follow Adelaide's lead then? I dont think they priortise this unlike Adelaide.

Some clubs want to buy success like Victory and Sydney.

Clubs like Wanderers and CCM seem poorly run from the outside.

Cory seem to poach heaps of young players but don’t develop them. It seems like they care more about poaching players rather than developing them.

If the rules change that allows clubs to invest into players and they maybe it might encourage more player development at aleague level.

Would someone McGree would have made it through at a Victory or Sydney as an 17 year old? I doubt that would happen because Victory and Sydney FC are expected to win and not play kids for the sake of it.

Each club has different budgets and priorities too, clearly better parameters are needed to put in place for whatever the clubs want to do.

Sorry mate, didn't see this the other day.

I'm a bit unsure of Abatew. When he made his AL debut he was very timid, and got subbed off due to a collision i think. He wasn't quite ready at the time, he hasn't played an awful lot of football recently (came back to the line-up last week) so i don't know whats happening with his situation.
As for Smith, i think he's a pretty good technician for a defender, but with Marrone, Jakobsen, Elsey, Kitto, Strain all pretty much rusted on starters it's pretty difficult for any young defensive player to get into the team, he's in same situation as Nunn and Walls.

Cheers for the info.

Hopefully Abetew can impress and break into the first team squad.

I saw a bit of an NPL game a few weeks ago and Smith did look better on the ball than the others in the back four. If he’s half decent, then surely he’d overtake Kitto as our second choice left back soon. Here’s hoping he does.

Clubs can invest in players now and given the financial state of the league, clubs really should be looking at what Adelaide are doing. The cap isn’t stopping them from giving long term contracts to young players because it isn’t stopping us.

I think it has to do with taking such a big risk on what is ultimately an unknown asset (talking about youth players.) Fortunately for Adelaide they are comfortable (or seem to be) confident in the ability of their youngsters/the system that they've given players 2 or 3 year contracts.

as for Other teams, this is up in the air, whether they are confident in their youth/system.

Good example is SFC, not giving many youngsters long-term contracts, as they prioritise short-term success over long-term successes. However hopefully that mind-set has changed with the obvious, as their players head overseas to very good academies.
Even Melbourne City. The city group saw what happened with Mooy and how profitable that system could be, so they've given some very good Aussie youngsters reasonably good length-ed contracts.

Each team has their own way of implementing youth into the team, I won't say developing youth, but more implementing. At this stage apart from AU, it feels as though youth are just there to fill the void.

Obviously it's all as clear as mud to what these clubs want to achieve and what they are actually striving for. Australian football as a whole just lacks a clear vision.

We signed Joe Gauci on a scholarship contract. That’s the third club he’s signed for yet he hasn’t played a first team game yet. Also we now have two scholarship keepers, the other Ethan Cox is on a three year deal.

Apparently we are on the verge of signing a former Roar midfielder.

The only players I can think of that we’d be looking at are Joe Caletti and Jesse Daley.

Hibs apparently can't pay his wage. I wish he were more keen to simply get playing. Seems a tough negotiation.
