Other then Guus and Bert for 10mins, lets be frank we have no had a top level Socceroos manager why? are there no good candiates for the job?

they job pays well, Australia is a good country to live, we have an ok team for our region so WC qualification is likely?

I know Marcelo Bielsa wanted the job but the FFA didn give it to him becuz he doesnt speak English - Probably in the top 5 dumbest FFA  decision right there.

But otherwise you look at the CV they are bang average to borderline terrible...

China have Marcello Lippi
S.Korea have Paulo Bento
Saudi Arabia have Herve Renard
etc etc etc

The question needs to be asked why do we always have below par national team managers?

I mean weather you like GA or not no one is looking at his CV and thinking this guys a top manager.....

Its the playing stocks, Guus in 2004 knew this was a good team full of talent just needed to fix a few things.

Not sure what Bert saw.. maybe just an opportunity to go to another world cup?

Until we have real talent we wont get a decent manager.

We'll never hit the heights of Brian Green, who took charge of the national team after working as a coach in the third and fourth divisions of English football. His first management role didn't go so well and he left in disgrace after stealing a couple of discs from a record store.

Put it this way, your a good coach based in EU or Latin America, choices are all over within easy distance.
Why take on an outpost position - look up history and review main league over the years etcetc how do you think that all looks barring Guus's tenure wayway back then ?
The only thing would be the money - and would it be worth the trouble ?
Doubt it unless ofcourse you can see the squad potential is promising ???????

Until we get a decent set of players, any manager regardless of their quality could so much with our lack of cattle.

We got some good young talent coming through the ranks but until they make the grade in senior football in Europe it won't mean that much in the end.

Quality players, this has been lacking since Pim was coach way back in 2010, even before that with Guys with the GG team in 06.

Arnie clearly feels worried with what's coming up by taking over the Olyroos side, as they lack that experience they need when competing internationally.

Another 'what could have been' moment for Aus football if Houllier was to oversee the youth development system and looked to create the Clairefontaine style model which has sucessfully worked in native country in France, I remember Frank Lowy wanted him for this reason as as managing the Socceroos for 2006 and was willing to pay big money for him if I'm not correct.

Yeah money definitely a huge motivator,  especially coaches who have had a fairly decent career and perhaps looking for one last throw of the dice and to make a little retirement nest egg.  I don't think Australia necessarily needs a "name" coach or to spend huge amounts on a Pep or Jose or Jurgen, nor do I think the national team manager has to be European or have WC experience.
I know it's stupid  and unnecessarily  romantic but I always felt a National team coach should be the same nationality. Whoever  or whatever our next coach is (Sorry can't see Arnie lasting) I would like them to have a clear style/philosophy towards the game and the backing of the FFA to implement.

Surely we can find someone better then GA?

Or at least a sperate manager for the U23s?

I understand why GA for the job in 2007 he learnt under guus we were all hoping he was be a cheap version of Guus unfortnely he wasnt 30% of Guus

I just cant understand how we have such shit candidates we have loads of coaches apply from what im told, how do we end up with the absolute bottom of the barrel?

There arent that many jobs out there for head managers and as ive said b4 the Soccroos job actually pays really well.

Also due to the fact we make WC pretty frequently bcuz of the low bar the AFC brings they get a strong chance to manage at a world cup which is a BIG deal.

I mean wtf is the point of managing a side like UAE, they got a great manager in Pinto but really why?

Talking having another Aussie you'd think Poppa would be the next best candidate till those against keep bringing him down.
Seems a norm by supporters in our game.
Expecting miracles but most should see we don't have the cattle, every single coach won't be good enough till some kind of success is achieved.

Davstar it seems the money isn't attracting anyone in the past barring knock back of the ol El Loco.

Look ill always 'back' the Aussie when the boys on the pitch or if they are managing a different side but the Socceroos national team need a quality manager and im not saying Popa doesnt have the stones for the job but realistically his CV is pretty light too? didn't fail in Turkey?

But IMO Popa is better then GA at least he did well in the ACL

I don't think it was revealed really why the Turkish venture ended so soon but no matter.
IMO I think the main diff between Ange/GA/Poppa is man/player management skills.
They know the game ut not enough worldly experience - Ange now will be a better gaffa having the JL tenure under his belt of the 3 at this stage.
Poppa starts his Greek venture.
Yes I would prefer a Euro/Latin coach but but we never seem to get one since back then.

Along that thinking he should be able to inspire his Oldham side to a good table finish, possibly even a promotion... him being a champions league winner and the heights he reached...
