From this and other newcastle herald articles, the general vibe is Lawrie won't sign a new coach until the new owner is on board. Lawrie has emphatically ruled out a coach currently abroad, it will be someone local. Some of the names rumoured to be new coach are in the quote.

Damian Mori is a decent enough coach. Did some very good things with Adelaide City & was there for a long time. 

It’s got Clayton Zane written all over it.
Would come cheap and knows the club.

He left the club for family reasons, that would be the main thing keeping him away from it in my opinion.

Scarily, I feel like it has Craig Deans written all over it. Who would as cheap, yet infinitely worse. 

Clayton left because the contract renewal he was offered was less than what he was being given, despite what lawrie may.
