So was on wiki trying to work out what had happened to Ersan Golum and turns out he is back in Turkey as a starter for mid table Antalyaspor in the first division. Together with Lyndon Dykes recent success with Scotland it's about time we did another best 11 not to play for the socceroos - this includes players who could have played for us but chose to represent other countries (Vieri, Seric, SImunic), guys who chose not to play for us and weren't picked by anyone (Johnson) and guys who simply weren't picked for the roos Tchourglou.
What's your team?
Mine...
Tchourglou Papadopoulos Rutjes Simunic Dorigo Johnson Ki-Seung Ergic Samaras Dykes Vieri
2nd XI: Didulica Georgievski Bosnar Golum Cassio F. Mitchell McGree Isaias Seric Porta Smeltz
John Souttar, Christophe Teinert, Sasa Illic, Durante, A. Đurić, Caravella, Theoklitos, Aleksandr Jokanovic, Henrique, Ansell, Marusic, Josh Rose, Daniel McBreen, Osama Malik, Nigel Boogard, F Karacic, Charlie Perkins, Johnny Moriarty, Shane Lowry, Talay Ufuk

Most of your 2nd XI are lucky they managed to play pro football.

Always an interesting question however if don't think mcgree should be there as he is only just beginning his career and will most likely play very soon. Should be left for players either capped by other countries or retired

+x+xCristiano Ronaldo.....? Pretty sure he has some family or ties to Australia (might be wrong) His grandparents live in Western Australia Yep. The family moved over there from Portugal while Ronaldo just joined the junior ranks at Sporting. I believe his mother (single mother, and living with her parents still) decided not to uproot him from his footballing future and stayed in Portugal, while the rest of the family moved to WA. So basically, something like Vieri, except.. well, CR7 obviously didn't make the move.

These two for a start Georgievski and Bosnar , they slept with footballers. Bosnar was a starter for Dinamo Zagreb and Sturm Graz when both clubs were stronger than they are now. Played over 40 games in the Eredivisie and then over 100 games in the J league, scoring 8 goals in 50 games for Shimizu which is damn impressive for a CB. Overall a very good CV. One of the fastest goals in history also (123km/h). Meanwhile Georgievski won 2 romanian leagues with Steaua Bucharest, played in the CL and capped over 20 times for Macedonia. Decent CV

Should be left for players either capped by other countries or retired As far as im concerned he still hasn't been capped which means he's elibgible for this 11 and as we saw with Dykes things can change very quickly. Could have a career ending/limiting injury ala Arzani. You never know.

+xNo team is complete without Ufuk Talay, the greatest Australian player never to represent the Socceroos. And before anyone forgets it, Ufuk Talay, the greatest Australian player never to represent the Socceroos. Good player sure, had one season at Galatasaray where he was squad rotation player/ semi regular. Rest of his time there he was in the reserves or loaned out. His A league career was good but not brilliant. Good player but far far from the greatest australian player never to represent the socceroos.... how can you possibly claim that when Vieri, Johnston, Simunic and Dorigo all were eligible for us? Sure Vieri wasn't really australian but Johnston and dorigo certainly were.

Was never eligible. We enquired but were rebuked by FIFA as Traore had appeared in the under 21's for ivory coast before he became a citizen of Australia. Odd case his one of someone being Australian but never eligible of playing for us. Fornaroli will end up the same.

Hence why the ffa thought he could play for Australia.

Born in South Korea, moved to Brisbane in 2001 but played U-17 for South Korea in 2004. South Korea generally doesn't allow dual nationality ( according to this website). I'd be confident in saying he was never eligible to play for Australia.

I had to google Kyriakos Tohouroglou. If he is OP's #1 keeper how good was he? He never played for Greece at any level. Surely Joey Didulica was the better of the two seeing as he actually turned out for Croatia?

Surely Joey Didulica was the better of the two seeing as he actually turned out for Croatia? PLayed 55 games for Olympiakos winning 2 greek leagues and then moved to the 4th best club in greece at the time winning 2 greek cups and playing over 100 matches as undisputed first choice goalie. This was at a time where greek football was at its absolute peak with greece winning the euros and having Rivaldo and some other big names in the league. In comparison Didulica only played 16 games at Ajax was never first choice and only 20 something at AZ which was about the same level of PAOK at the time. Ok Didulica got capped by Croatia 4 times but id argue Croatia had weak keepers compared to Greece around that time who had Nikopolidis who is considered their greatest ever goalie.

Why is smeltz there? I'm pretty sure he was born in Germany to kiwi parents, and never could have played for Australia, as his duel citizenship came after his appearance at a senior level for the all whites.
