$500 for miniroos? BS. In nsw it’s $100 and the government covers that with their kids active voucher so the club gets paid but it’s free. Win win.

Resisted my son in Woolworths Blast cricket this summer. For $100 you get a Shirt and bat with with any name you want on the back. The best part is you get to choose what BBL "Franchise" shirt and bat colour you want. Not too sure if this is done in football in this country but it is a great first step of linking the grass roots to the professional game and getting kids to support an A-league team.

The collective insurance policies brokered with each association/state fed bump up rego costs yet are often a total rip off when you consider whats actually offered under the coverage, should you need to make a claim.
As the secretary of my club for many years and the one who signs the claims, my old man has seen countless examples where the player is better off (aka less out of pocket) claiming through their private health fund than claiming through the collective policy. It’s a joke.

It’s a joke. It's disgraceful isn't it? But in the age of let's sue everyone, what's a club to do?? Catch 22 and the insurance companies are picking up a nice earner without too much risk.

The collective insurance policies have made the registration fees a lot cheaper for players, under the good old Soccer Australia days each club had to organise their own insurance policies (my childhood club actually charges less for their fees now then mine were back in the late 90s). What this insurance covers is not a lot in monetary funds (pretty much an ambulance if you don't have private insurance), however it does offer the clubs and other players liability insurance cover (which most players wouldn't normally have under private health insurance). Personally I feel this is where the main crux of the insurance lies, you aren't liable for the medical expenses of another player you may injure (of course there is a limit such as something like injuring someone in a fight during a game).

You should be able to opt out of insurance. Particularly if you have private insurance. It's next to worthless anyway.

Yes part of the insurance does cover the Club (it is why volunteers are meant to be registered by clubs, including coaches, as it covers them too ... although they don't pay any fees or costs to the Federations ... i.e. players rego fees are paying to protect volunteers, coaches ... you know the ppl that ensure the game happens week in week out). Also as I stated the insurance covers your personal liability if you injure a player in the match (that is they can't sue you for damages, loss of income, medical costs etc).

Clubs that participated in Roars program seemed to put their fees down, not up. Something to do with costs savings not having to hire multiple A, B or C Licence coaches for their programs.
Have you got evidence to the contrary? I coach against teams that have been or are involved in the program (eg Olympic) and never heard such comments, more the opposite.
Locally theres several (brutal) community football forums that dont hold back in their criticism of raised fees - they’re even having a go now at clubs for raising fees post COVID - and I don’t recall Roar have ever been accused of driving up fees with their program. Again, happy to read evidence to the contrary.
As for the Roar program itself, which was started under Kingsman (RIP), it seems to have scaled back - there’s fewer engagements with clubs (I might be wrong but I think Olympic pulled out last year) and more engagement with private academies ... I’m not a huge fan of private academies but at least it’s not pay-for-play there.
