Brandon O'Neill has now played 3 games for Buriram United, and looked off the pace in all of them. Subbed off in the 56th minute last night, wouldn't be surprised if he's given an ultimatum to improve soon or be gone. Buriram won't wait too long for you to start performing, they'll just bin you and move on.

If that is correct he must be either not fit, struggling with the weather conditions, mentally not there or carrying an injury, other then that the Thai league must have improved a lot for him to be off the pace in all three games in the Thai league.

I think he might've underestimated the strength of the league, which is much higher than a lot of people would think. Sure: there's some club that are terrible. But for the most part, it's quite competitive, and a few of the clubs would compete quite easily if they were transplanted into the A-League. They've invested the money quite well in Thailand when it comes to youth development and the infrastructure most clubs have, and they have a bright future ahead.

So did you watch all 3 games? How many minutes did he get in the first 2? I noticed he was positioned in a back 3 in the game yesterday & that obviously isn't his best position, so that may have been a reason why he was subbed at 56 mins? Still early days for him

Watched all 3, as well as a cup game he played against Port FC [he was subbed in that game too iirc]. He doesn't play in a back-3 at all, he lines up as a deep midfielder, who is expected to drop deep to receive the ball and start a move that launches the attack. Buriram have a back-4, with their fullbacks bombing on forward, so occasionally O'Neill would have to drop back into a back-3, but not too often. It's the way that Gama has played at every Thai club that he's managed, with it being quite successful, though it can be quite boring to watch at times too. If you watched the game last night, you'd have seen him turn the ball over time and time again, which resulted in his teammates eventually bypassing him when they were in possession, and passing the ball to someone else instead. He was involved in a 50-50 collision that looked quite sore, so that would explain him being withdrawn too, but he seems to be gasping for air by the 30-minute mark in all the games too. So the heat must still be playing a factor.

When you're a foreigner in Thailand, you're expected to be head and shoulders above your teammates, so when you're not producing: there's not much leeway given to you. When you consider the resources that Buriram has [they reportedly paid Chris Herd US$30k/month just to play cup games for them] then it honestly wouldn't surprise me if they went "right, this isn't working" and moved on. They've done that with 6 foreign players this season: Jung Jae-Yong [6 games, now back in South Korea], Bernardo Cuesta [6 games, now back in Peru, via a pit-stop in Mexico], Akbar Ismatullaev [10 games, now a free agent], Marko Šćepović [9 games, now in Cyprus], Gidi Kanyuk [10 games, loaned to another Thai League 1 side], and finally Renato Kelić [12 games, loaned to another Thai League 1 side]. As you can see: patience isn't their strong point.

He just doesn't look like the player he was when he was at Sydney FC, which is where he looked very, very good imo. The moves abroad haven't seen him continue that run of form, which is a shame, but I'm sure he'll end up back in the A-League and do well if that's the way things play out.

Any one who has had to work abroad knows it can be quite challenging performing at 100% away from your support networks. I think it is very difficult to be consistently a world power in a sport unless the domestic league is strong enough to be a viable option for a lot of your top players

I found it a little weird when the second division club scored a late consolation and the scorer went and celebrated with his coach. I guess that's the magic of the cup.

Gersbach did well obviously. Arzani did well in midfield but should have got 1 or both of his goal shots on target at least

I had to use the translation function, but on AGF’s match report on their official FB page, Arzani gets a few positive mentions from fans, as did Gersbach. Of Arzani, one fan said he has fast feet and had some good shots. So all is not lost yet if you can tale anything away from AGF fans, and I don’t know why you wouldn’t. Hopefully Arzani builds from here and takes this opportunity by the throat.

Deni Juric scored and now has 4 in his last 5.

Out of him, DWH, Kuol and D’Aggers, there’s gonna be some very unlucky players who will miss out on playing at the Olympics.
