Arzani tells that language was an issue for him at Utrecht. Rene Hake only ever spoke Dutch at games and training so Arzani says when doing a practice drill he often didn’t know exactly what to do. FFS. Never had a chance to impress at training let alone in games.
What a prick clog-wog of a coach.

Well it’s great they speak English at his Danish club and that he has some Aussies there but I wonder if he was trying to learn any Dutch, even just the most common phrases used at training. Many players and coaches attempt to learn then language of their new club, if only out of respect. But sometimes just the attempt at learning impresses your hosts. I understand Arnie speaks Dutch and Robbie Slater speaks French, and they learned the languages when they played in those respective countries. When you go to work or live in a foreign country you should try and at least learn the basics of their language - this is common courtesy really.

LOL how dare they speak Dutch at a Dutch club. The fact he is whinging about the language barrier is an indication of the lack of effort in learning even the basic words.

Did Arzani mistake FC Utrecht for another Scottish club when he signed for them?

FYI the average Dutch person speaks 4 languages, including English. Dutch is probably the hardest Euro language to learn as well

Arzani is a professional football player. Nothing new about moving to continental European club without speaking the language. He’s not the first one.

You make the effort to learn the language. You make the effort in training. You get respected by the manager and your team mates. Simple.

Either he's injured or the Thai adventure has come to an end after failing to demonstrate La Liga quality.

Bit odd with Arzani. It would appear the coach was quite stern on local language and that's fine. However, you can't expect foreigners to immediately follow. Still, I hope Arzani took some steps to learn common phrases on the training pitch. Ryan tried with Spanish and uses it now. If yes, then he did his part, but if not, then no wonder the coach had a little more resentment. It all comes down to coach policy and player will. Some clubs hire interpreters. Some argue football has its own language anyway.

Langerak gave German a good go while Leckie seems to be able to converse. Kruse didn't seem to do much and gave English interviews even after 8 years. Brazilians tend to just go with it and speak a lot. I remember Hannover using language barriers are reason for their shocking play and there might be something to it. A Swede, Dane and Japanese player standing over a free kick and the two runners and taker all collide into each other after the whistle blows with the ball still awaiting its fate.

i suspect from my time in the netherlands that this was a choice from the coach and he was just being a jerk. Everyone seems to speak fluent English there

Considering he's already fluent in two languages,  id suggest it had less to do with his capability in learning a new language and more to do with a coach that didn't give him a chance to learn the language that would be normally afforded to others.
