Full game for Sainsbury in a 4-2 loss. At least our NT defenders are all getting big minutes.

Long may the losses continue, hoping they go to League 1.

only goal difference is keeping them out of the relegation zone now

Borrello's assist at 6:21  https://goals4.footupvideos.com/player/html/MdC8B8fGDyd5H?popup=yes&autoplay=1
And some good work from Teague https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpD3ygZlNes

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Didn't see or lad Watts on the Southampton u23s bench? Hope this means he'll be on the bench against Man City. Hope it doesn't mean injury

Watts wasnt in squad for last senior game but played u/23's so dont think he was/is injured and senior team had some injuries so expect him back in senior squad for this game

dude. mooy went into the championship and was playing nearly 60 games in comp and cup. plus NT duties. had no breaks because of NT.

there are very few players that would hold up to that.

but aside from that agree. the aus league is pretty much part time.  the injuries our players get consistently when they go to europe say to me that they also train at semi pro levels and they dont cope with the step up in training regimes.

And of course you are fully conversant with all the details of the different training regimes which I'm sure is how you can make such a sweeping generalisation.
Honestly, what half arsed nonsense.

I kinda forgot Lyndon Dykes ever existed so I just looked up his stats. 5 goals in 30 apps this season (mostly penalties) and hasn't scored since last November. A quick search of his name of twitter yields lots of comments from QPR fans saying he's really bad. No loss for the Socceroos there imo despite our lack of ST depth. If I had to pick one Aussie/Scottish dual national for the Socceroos from the English Championship I'm easily picking Souttar every single day of the week.

Exactly. Dykes had one good game against Celtic & the myth grew from there. And he said that Australia was the easy option. Doubt he'll get another game for Scotland

I was thinking this yesterday as well. Don’t like to wish poorly on anyone but it looks like the decision could come back and bite him in the arse.

Watts on against City in the 72nd minute, getting some real minutes now, even if the game is gone 5-2.

Spent his 18 minutes hugging the left touchline, Southampton were still trying to play out of the back but weren't in the game at this point. Watts repeatedly getting into space on the left but it was never honoured. Completed a couple of passes, certainly didn't look any worse than his teammates. Southampton not conceding any more goals after he came on, ending 5-2. City 14 points clear on top of the table.

Watts getting a rating of 5.9 on futmob in his short term, same rating as the other player that came on at the same time as him in the 72nd minute, Sergio Aguero.

Guardiola specifically praising the Southampton midfield, saying they've given him more problems than anyone else this year. Pretty good for Watts to be getting minutes in that company!

Southampton must really rate him. A kid just turned 19, playing 20 odd mins against one of the best teams in the world. Now we just need some of the others to kick on and start getting first team mins - Francois X 2, Teague, Hammond, Robertson, Iredale, Italiano etc etc. Could really start building the next generation around these guys.

I really hope Watts is given permission by Southampton to play for the socceroos in the June WCQ's.

If he was a very fringe member of the squad he would only be getting the last 5 mins in games like that. 18 mins is a definite show of confidence. As the season winds down and Southampton have less to play for hopefully he gets more minutes and maybe a few starts.

True. Or another Jordan Lyden or Chris Herd. But its promising nonetheless.

Wonder how long his current u/23 contract is and wonder if they'll seek an extension or seek to sell him during next transfer window. A contract extension would be a good sign.

Southampton to be fair looked quite average and made too many mistakes, surprised it only ended 5-2.

But good to see Watts get more minutes at this level.

Southampton's last game this season is 24/05, so you'd think he'd be ok to Play on the WCQ's.

permission is one thing. international clubs definitely have a history of pressuring os aussies to reconsider NT duties.  they definitely pay a price for representing aus.  there's always a form slump from the toll of the workload and travel and then trouble getting into the squad.

it something i think we should be better managing.  we shoot ourselves in the foot when we take on players for NT duties, then their club career dives, then they cant represent for us as well as they could.

mooy, kruse, leckie, jedinak, luongo - it goes on - the list of players who slumped heavily at club after NT duties

Agree with this. I should have emphasised that its more with Watts being so young and just starting out with the first team, he might get some implicit pressure to miss a WCQ squad during covid who are playing against minnows. But lets hope thats not the case and he gets the all clear.

Great news for Watts, I don't see him going the way of Herd or O'Neill both of those guys were thrown in due to their strength at winning the ball..something us Aussies are developing a name for... but Caleb in the last two games has come on when they are looking to attack more and hes being played as a wide midfielder... they must see him as an attacking option.
