+x+x+xIn slightly better news for MV the match rated 11k on fox so nobody watched it. 8k for the Western United Tassie adventure. 50k watched the South Melbourne game on community TV at the Hellas Club. No about 4k in youtube and probably 6 to 7k (I'm told) on Facebook https://m.youtube.com/user/NPLVictoria/videos So less than that fall asleep to the test tube pattern?

WU v Nix did not make the top 20 last night, which cut off at 30k. NRL game got excellent ratings to top the list. There's one little quirky thing I noticed, and I might need help from our Victorian friends. The "VFL" makes three entries in the top 20, including a game between GWS and Footscray?? The actual game got ratings of 40k. Is this a reserves game or something? Anyway, that's in the top 20, and so our reality is that 2nd tier games for the NRL and the AFL can get more than double our very best A-League ratings. What do the NRL and AFL earn for broadcasting their reserves? I'd say next to nothing, it would not be viewed as a commercial proposition by any broadcaster. Food for thought for our game.Rank | Description | Channel\Market | (r) National STV | 1 | LIVE: NRL: PANTHERS V KNIGHTS | FOX LEAGUE | 229,000 | 2 | LIVE: THE LATE SHOW WITH MATTY JOHNS | FOX LEAGUE | 78,000 | 3 | LIVE: NRL PRE GAME THURSDAY | FOX LEAGUE | 75,000 | 4 | OUTBACK OPAL HUNTERS | Discovery Channel | 71,000 | 5 | THE BOLT REPORT | Sky News Live | 63,000 | 6 | PAUL MURRAY LIVE | Sky News Live | 51,000 | 7 | CREDLIN | Sky News Live | 49,000 | 8 | THE KENNY REPORT | Sky News Live | 45,000 | 9 | LIVE: VFL: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTY ON FOX | FOX FOOTY | 43,000 | 10 | ALAN JONES | Sky News Live | 41,000 | 11 | LIVE: VFL: ROUND 2 GWS V FOOTSCRAY | FOX FOOTY | 40,000 | 12 | GOLD RUSH | Discovery Channel | 39,000 | 13 | FAMILY GUY | FOX8 | 35,000 | 14 | THE SIMPSONS | FOX8 | 34,000 | 15 | GRAND DESIGNS AUSTRALIA | Lifestyle Channel | 34,000 | 16 | LIVE: VFL: THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTY ON FOX | FOX FOOTY | 33,000 |

"What do the NRL and AFL earn for broadcasting their reserves? I'd say next to nothing, it would not be viewed as a commercial proposition by any broadcaster. Food for thought for our game." Because it is content for people who already subscribe for the AFL or NRL. The important thing to note for us is that there is interest in second tiers and that the NRL and AFL will likely move to capitalise on it while we are pretending their is no interest in a second tier.

What do the NRL and AFL earn for broadcasting their reserves? I'd say next to nothing, it would not be viewed as a commercial proposition by any broadcaster. Food for thought for our game. Its the eastern reserves comp plus a few other second tier teams from Vic/NSW/ACT and QLD thrown in. Deal announced just before the VFL started, and mirrors one struck with the NSWRL earlier in the year. - Seven will broadcast the VFL’s match of the day live on Sundays and fans will also be able to livestream it via Seven’s BVOD platform, 7plus
- Kayo will cover at least two additional matches live every round on Kayo Freebies (no paywall). It will carry three matches in each of the first two rounds to kick off the season.
- And the VFL will hit the airwaves of Fox Footy with a Thursday night match live on Fox Footy in the weeks when there is no AFL Thursday night game – simulcast on Kayo, Foxtel Go, Foxtel Now.
SANFL and WAFL not included. SANFL have their own streaming service + 1 game a week on 7/7plus. WAFL have 1 game a week on 7/7plus and 2 games a week streamed by The West Australian newspaper.

We no longer bother looking at the Foxtel ratings any more. It has been two or three years since we used to regularly make the top 20, and even then, it would be only 3 or 4 games per round. Once upon a time, the big blue was almost guaranteed to make the top 20. While a mid week game might affect attendances, it should never affect ratings, that's prime time viewing. Instead, failed to make the top 20, cutting out at 28k with Peppa Pig. I went looking back into the archives, nowhere specific, just tried to find something from way back in the day. I stumbled across a Friday night game, on 5 October 2012, it's the Victory vs Heart (remember Heart?), this is pretty amazing, you will not believe these ratings: Rank | Description | Channel\Market | (r) National STV | 1 | LIVE: FOOTBALL: A-LEAGUE MELB V V MELB H | FOX SPORTS 1 | 129,000 | 2 | LIVE: CRICKET: ICC WORLD TWENTY20 | FOX SPORTS 3 | 111,000 | 3 | THE SIMPSONS | FOX8 | 71,000 | 4 | FOOTBALL: KICK OFF | FOX SPORTS 1 | 70,000 | 5 | LIVE: CRICKET: WOMEN’S TWENTY/20 | FOX SPORTS 3 | 63,000 | 6 | LIVE: PRE GAME SHOW | FOX SPORTS 3 | 62,000 |
So, not only did we finish no. 1 with 129k, beat a cricket game, we even had the preview show finish no. 4. You just wouldn't believe it unless you were presented with the evidence.

I remember when we were getting between 100-200k on SBS every Friday night and everyone was complaining that we weren't on the main channel.

+xInteresting news. Unexpected result from my end. Need to see if the boost has legs though. If subscriptions and the take up of the sports package keep rising, then Union is a big winner for Stan. Not so sure its a big winner if the rise plateaus in the first season, whish I suspect it may. Union has some keen fans, but they would have jumped on board quick imop. Where does growth come from after them?

Where does growth come from after them? If they get the a-league as well then they would see growth on that, if they have 3-400k sport subscribers then they are approaching Kayo levels and at a tiny fraction of the cost to buy Football and Rugby fees compared to AFL and Rugby League. It's not a bad method and looks like it is working somewhat. The question could equally be , where is Foxtel sports growth going to come from to cover their massive sports right fees.

Anyone thinking winter football was a good idea, better take a hard look at those ratings. Is the football getting better and are the ratings getting better as the temperature declines? A-League in winter is basically NpL with some extra money and less crowd violence.

Not many posts to put up on this thread, mainly because it's very diffficult to get the numbers, in the main, because the A-League never makes the top 20, I do mean never. What about the Big Blue on a Wednesday night. Fair enough, attendance at actual game is not expected to be high (just over 4,000 there), but surely a few would want to watch the game live on TV, a mid week game, doesn't get anymore TV friendly than that. Anything good on Fox last night? No, certainly no live sport to speak of. Unfortunately, not enough tuned in to crack the Fox top 20, with a handful of shows sitting on 28k, including: - The Great British Bake off - The Adventures of Paddington - Peppa Pig, makes not one, but three appearances with 28k. - The Homocide Hunter comes in at 20th with 27k (actual, sounds like a good show)

#MCYvCCM 14,000 Wellington vs western United 7k I would guess that there where quite a few people watching the final matchday of the EPL early this morning, even at 2am. How good was having the top 4 positions in EPL change 5 or 6 times over the course of 90 mins?

And you'd have to say it's a smart investment. Can't wait to see how 10 package and promote the comp.
