+xThis will sound like im defending the comp but the reality is as i've pointed out we are in mid May, the football community are attached to there local clubs whether its npl, state leagues or running around with the juniors, nobody has time for the A league when the local stuff starts. Cant compare it to October-Feb when nothing else is on. Whilst the crowds havent been anything to write home about at any point this season, once the locals start its too much to compete against, this isnt even taking into account other codes. Yes, I think the winter A League concept is dead in the water.

I saw an article today about the struggles that the AFL are experiencing getting people to matches too. Didn’t read the whole article, but they apparently only had 18K at a match that would have been a 40k+ attendance in previous seasons.
It is hard to get traction, so we aren’t alone, but our struggles have been deeper for some time.

Only thing dead in the water is the AL, doesn't matter when you play it general public just aren't interested in the product anymore It's a long story of chronic mismanagement from both FFA and the clubs but all the evidence agrees with you. I've been arguing for some time now that the only hope is a rebrand with a major P&A spend but I don't believe for a moment it will happen. The calamitous inclusion of Western United has reduced the A League to farce.

More of a protest crowd, Richmond play at the MCG, the MCG based teams hate playing home games at Marvel stadium. Also appears to be more of a Melbourne thing, Aussie rules crowds interstate have been back to normal, the Vic state government petrified the community last year and everyone is still reeling from that. The AFL has the media saturation to get going though, it just automatically bounces back, we don’t have that luxury.

My fervent hope is that the shysters behind Western United run out of money and fold the club.

Agree with this, pretty confident City would attract a crowd in that range for a grand final at AAMI.

+x+x+xto think , Aleague was getting Crowds of 40,000+ and 30,000 + just 2 season ago Thats right , just T.W.O seasons ago ! Who has been in charge the last two years ?? I think they have some SERIOUS Questions to answer !! This. All you’ll get is silence as so many here should hang their head in shame. It’s a slap in their face. Are you talking to yourself again? No, but you just wasted a few precious seconds of my life reading your comment.

My gut feel is City will lose in the semi though.

Not really, it’s not like 18k is the norm for them, if that became the weekly attendance different story.

I think it's the AFL capital of the world, not the sporting capital. Yes AFL, where it's the biggest sport in the world in Melbourne. Always reminds me of that Guardian journalist who pined 'like seagulls fighting over a chip'

Can't expect a club without that many fans to attract a full house at AAMI .. who would go to see them play? VIctory members or WU? Or are you expecting NPL fans to rock up? Melbourne doesn't really have a culture of going to a sport event just for the spectacle of it (exceptions are Grand Prix, AFLGrand final, Melbourne Cup, Australian Open ... maybe why we are the sporting capital) you go watch your club play ... mostly.
