+x+xRobbie Slater indicated on the Fox broadcast that the A League will kick off in November. Hoping that is a two way step to move to a February 2023 winter competition the following year in alignment with the NSD and the pyramid. Fo 10 to get there wish, we must compete with the NRL and AFL. The hype over the WC in Nov 2022 and the WWC in 2023 will help in their marketing. Interesting the above comment about getting the deal over the line without the hype of the WC. I suspect that 10 have looked over the horizon and like what they see. That's interesting. A possible way forward for a winter transition would be to have the following seasons: 2021-22: November-June/July 2022-23: start after the World Cup in December/January, then have a mid-season break for the WWC in June 23, and finish up in October/November 2024: Proper winter season, March-November Also lines up nicely with proposed NSD timetable, which will likely start in 2023. And certainly the Qatar World Cup throws a spanner in the works if they wanted to keep a summer season for 2022-23. But it all depends on whether the APL owners have the cojones to pull off the switch, and whether 10 is up for it or not. Now your just teasing........... lol

+x+x+x+x+x+xReally astonishing that you've still managed to be negative about this deal, which is an unmitigated positive. I'm not being negative, just realistic. I cant tell you how many times our game has been in this position starting with channel 7 at the end of the 90s If you guys want to be overly optimistic and celebratory, thats fine. But as this unfolds over the next few months I hope you guys are prepared for a realistic and detailed analysis. Not simply call it as a success regardless of what happens, as I have seen on this forum in the past Way way to hard, First channel 7 paid 1 million with revenues at the time of close to 700 million.... Ten are paying 70 million with revenues of around 600 million I think, its very different ... Seven brought Football to bury it for the AFL re the email.. TEN wanta make Football grow ... polar opposites in corporate objectives.. Second, if you read the TEN release and you should... TEN have said Football needs to grow and is in a bad place and it will take over seven yes 7 years.... meaning TEN have a long term plan and seem prepared to invest and wait. On this point CBS are massively invested in Football in the US....meaning they understand how to work with little other media and are hugely invested into Football see their web page... https://www.cbssports.com/soccer/Football in general has only rarely had good admins and sometimes the good ones stayed to long..... Frank Lowy is the most obvious three attempts .... the A-League worked especially in years 1 thu to say 3.... at this point a plan should have ... Both Danny Townsend [APL media negotiator] & JJ, openly said they want a broadcast partner to help grow the game not simply a broadcaster... This is an amazing deal if you consider were we are and the like of which Football has never had before... Seven need to make the AFL work, Nine need to make League work, and now TEN need to make Football work.... Yes we still have the same problems as before, but hand on heart not the other thing, things under JJ are changing.... to slow for some but change is happening.... John O'Neill if he stayed would have grown the A league to way above where it is now. A big loss. Agree and he decided in season 1 that his structure of one team per capital city was wrong and wanted new teams in both Sydney & Melbourne... Lowy said no and he left over it.... something by the way hardly ever reported on SBS but they constantly point out his One team per capital city was wrong... but never he also said that and tried to change it... Ummmmm that is a little revisionist mate. You and I obviously remember O'Neils effect on the sport very differently. Why the SBS hate btw? 40 years of broadcasting soccer isn't enough for you, yet 30 odd games and all of a sudden Walleed and channel 10 are the new messiah? I too have been following Channel 10 news recently and agree with you that they are now mentioning the round ball with a lot more enthusiasm obviously, notice Jennifer Kyte's face tonight though when the Euros or anything football are mentioned, its like she's licked the cat's bum..... At least Jennifer didn’t have a problem with a coke bottle again... 😆

+x+x+xAnyone got the feeling that TEN will crash and burn with this new deal? Ratings are pathetic and dropping every year, Socceroos don't rate and the Matildas are crap now. I'm sure there is a cluse in there contract to pull the pin like FoxSports did after a year or two of failing ratings. Hahaha. 1 out of 10. Low energy effort. I'm marking this 'can do better'. With a COVID hit season the ratings should have went through the roof with everyone at home watching because they couldn't get to games because of restrictions BUT NO they failed miserably dropping once more. If foxtel is/was to blame then we will see next season. No one watches Foxtel, it measures people in pubs and people who watch SkyNews. Show me some ratings for streaming and I will accept your point.

This is also why it’s crucial for the Socceroos to make the World Cup, missing out will be the last thing Football Australia needs especially in trying to build the Socceroos brand again. (Especially now they are unbundled from the aleague) Same with the Matildas doing well at the World Cup too.
Its a great deal for the national teams, the more they do well with more high profile stars the more content and revenue this could bring down the line.
Paramount are investing for now and for future success so it’s now time the national teams make it count and get it right on and off the pitch.

I think the national team is on the right track except we will prob be playing off again which is only a good thing as we get bigger crowds at home games and they rate better on TV. And ratings is what channel TEN/Paramount want/need going into this new steaming TV deal.

+xI hope Paramount+ broadcast the Premier League and the Champions League That would definitely help. PL rights come up in both Australia and the USA at the end of the 21-22 season, so that could be when Paramount makes a play in both territories (just as long as we don't end up with the American feed).

Any word on the international broadcasters?
Will be interesting to see if the likes of BT sports in the UK and ESPN+ in the US retain it.

Very pleased to see this deal. Fearing the worst and getting something better that what I would have hoped for.
Even better - there are signals that Para may want to bundle other leagues and comps, making for a further reach for the ALeague.
Happy to see some of the bitters with a smile on the dial!!!
Cancelling my Fox Sports component on Foxtel at end of June, and signing up with Para, saving me possibly $35 per month.

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/ten-back-soccer-to-become-no-1-sport-in-australia-after-300m-investment-20210615-p5818a.html#commentsTen backs soccer to become ‘No.1 sport in Australia’ after $300m investment21View all commentsNetwork Ten has outlined its bold ambition to make football the number one sport in Australia after securing the rights to all Socceroos and Matildas matches outside of World Cups until the end of 2024.Ten tied up a five-year, $200 million rights deal for the A-League and W-League last month together with the network’s soon-to-be-launched streaming subsidiary, Paramount+.The Herald can reveal that Ten’s owners, ViacomCBS, have invested a further $100 million into the sport – according to sources with direct knowledge of the deal – to secure a suite of key international fixtures involving Australia’s men’s and women’s teams as well as the FFA Cup and other Asian tournaments. The new contract, struck with Football Australia, covers the next three and a half years and includes the Socceroos’ final round of qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup, the forthcoming Asian Cups for women (2022) and men (2023), and all friendlies and qualifiers for both senior national teams.Football has struggled at domestic level over the last few years but Ten is bullish about the sport’s potential in Australia and is planning a huge advertising blitz in the coming months to improve its visibility - and as part of this new deal, along with cross-promotions involving flagship shows like The Project and MasterChef, it will commission a children’s program focused on promoting participation in football.Having once made the Big Bash League the country’s hottest sporting property in the summer, Ten believes it can now make the round-ball code the most popular in Australia.“It’s good to have a big ambition like that,” Beverley McGarvey, the chief content officer and executive vice president of ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand, told the Herald.“We’re not in this for a quick win. This is something we will build together with our partners. And I think all of the partners involved know that there’s a long-term goal here, but to do it you’ve got to do it one step at a time.
“Being the number one sport in Australia, that’s not going to be true by next year. But I think it’s a good ambition we can work towards and this is kind of where it starts for us.“We really believe in football ... in terms of making this sport more accessible for all Australians, it helps it get there because we really believe in how the brands fit together and the ambitions of all of our businesses are really well aligned.”The arrangement is a boon for FA, although the rough $100 million figure is not all pure profit for the governing body. The deal also includes a significant amount of contra, while FA had to spend an unspecified amount to buy the rights to much of the Socceroos and Matildas content off the AFC’s confederation’s marketing agency to facilitate the package it has now sold to Ten.After sealing the A-League’s independence at the end of last year and having unveiled a series of lucrative sponsorship deals – including Commonwealth Bank’s naming rights sponsorship of the Matildas – in recent months, FA chief executive James Johnson said the organisation had weathered the worst of COVID-19 and was now on solid financial footing.“It’s been a remarkable 12 months for the sport. We’re in a really good position,” Johnson said.“This partnership with Network 10 is very important to us and I think it flags the bringing to life of a new era for our sport and we’re very happy with where we are and also where we’re going. ”Anti-siphoning laws dictate that all of the Socceroos’ home World Cup qualifiers must be shown on free-to-air television, but McGarvey said a “considerable amount” of other match content – including the annual FFA Cup final – will be broadcast via Ten.All other games will find a home on Paramount+, which will launch in Australia on August 11 at $8.99 per month.“We set out with the target of obtaining both sets of rights [A-League and W-League, and national teams] a few months ago and we’re very, very happy we’ve been able to obtain those,” said Jarrod Villani, chief operating and commercial officer and executive vice president of ViacomCBS Australia and New Zealand.

Not speculation. Not maybes. Not the Lisa Simpson "listening to the notes she's not playing" which is what this thread is about

A possible way forward for a winter transition would be to have the following seasons: 2021-22: November-June/July 2022-23: start after the World Cup in December/January, then have a mid-season break for the WWC in June 23, and finish up in October/November 2024: Proper winter season, March-NovemberAlso lines up nicely with proposed NSD timetable, which will likely start in 2023. And certainly the Qatar World Cup throws a spanner in the works if they wanted to keep a summer season for 2022-23. But it all depends on whether the APL owners have the cojones to pull off the switch, and whether 10 is up for it or not. Big fat no to this. Lets remove the phrase "winter season" and call it "calendar year season." I have been pretty vocal about not going to winter, but I would be more than happy with a calendar year season that has a winter break. eg: - First 13 games: February to May - Break in June and July for internationals and early FFA Cup rounds. - Second 13 games: August to November - Finals: November to December (expand to 4 weeks).

This is what happens when you have a broadcaster partner as committed as yourself to making it work...
Celebrity Master Chef has just announced the ten celebrities for this years show.
Included in the 10 is ... and how it was announced... professional football player Archie Thompson...

+x+x+xWhat are the next three things of substance A League fans have to look forward to Not speculation. Not maybes. Not the Lisa Simpson "listening to the notes she's not playing" which is what this thread is about The new savior is amongst us. Give me the first three things along with dates that are going to impact the A League The next big step will be selling a 13th license to the highest bidder. Sounds promising and something to look forward to To be honest if Lowy and Gallop were still in charge, all we'd have to look forward to right now would be the selling of a 13th licence to the highest bidder FFS you're like a jammed CD.

All I have done is ask what the next 3 (confirmed) things A League fans have to look forward to. I would have thought by now you guys would have reeled off 10 or 20 Instead there has been a single answer, which is the gradual selling of licences in a closed off league. The bread and butter of the old mob
