Dont understand why clubs arent scouting properly using data and analytics, there are some smart Aussies in the football analytics community who can do a lot with data in terms of recruitment.

Many clubs still sign players based on agent recommendations or just based on the name of a player.

This is so true. All it takes is a Wyscout/SmarterScout/InStat subscription and you can find really good players. Pretty pathetic that clubs still rely virtually exclusively on recommendations.

All clubs get access to wyscout from my understanding as the league has a deal with Hudl

He got injured just after he arrived and then got injured a game or two after making his debut.

Just seems like bad luck really. The guy was playing Bundesliga last season so he clearly must be quality.

He played 7 games for a grand total of 425 mins in season 19/20

Langkamp played what 30 mins? made a mistake for a goal and then got subbed off?

Because aleague clubs are lazy, so much for having a professsional league when some clubs still rely on agent recommendations and then we complain why we still see the same players play in this league.
Look at some of the foreign players here and I question why aleague clubs sign them.

We still have a long way to go.

That’s 7 more Bundesliga games than anyone else in the league would’ve played last season.

In the case of Langkamp, it seems like he got unlucky with injuries. I don’t think you can blame Perth for that.

You do know most clubs still do scouting via DVDs and agent recommendations..despite clubs having scouts

And this is still good enough in this day of age?

Football is a game of opinions. Clubs could use wyscout, and all of those other programs where the data/analytics look great for a player, and you know what it guarantees? Absolutely nothing! And if the player doesn't work out, it's a "wE nEeD tO uSe DiFfErEnT mEtHoDs To SiGn PlAyErS" argument again, even if the clubs did use wyscout, etc.

On paper, the signing of Langkamp was solid enough, but the club didn't factor in the unfortunate injuries that he'd suffer after signing. My guess is that they felt he was a similar player to Wüthrich, and that's why they went out and got him. They're just fortunate enough that he was only on a 1-year deal, so it hasn't cost them an absolute fortune to move him on.

Because signing players of agent contacts or DVDs is an better alternative? Great logic...

Scouting is so advanced these days, its not like you see a player and sign on the spot its so more analytical than that especially at bigger leagues and clubs where they have large resources and they dont want to get it wrong by spending the millions on a player.

What I'm saying is, even the players that have been scouted off those programs can be complete duds as signings. There are no guarantees whatsoever that what a player did for his previous club will be replicated when he moves on. Of course, there are the few exceptions to that rule, but for the most part it's still a complete unknown if a move will be successful. Are those programs useful to garner an opinion, and so on? Absolutely. But they're not the be all and end all either, like it's being made out.

Armiento and Aspro signed two year extensions.

Matt Simon will also play on for another year while Birighitti and Rowles have also signed new contacts.

Fair enough I just think with scouting you want to take every avenue you can get to get it right especially when you only have a limit on who you can sign.

Its a hard job scouting.

He definitely doesn't have an Israeli passport and they're not part of the EU. Each team can have 6 foreign players. They currently have 6, but I'm told that Rukavytsya is rumoured to be on his way out.

Rukavytsya has an Israeli wife, and has been undergoing the process of obtaining an Israeli passport for a while. So there's a chance that he's now obtained said passport, and will no longer count towards the foreign quota.

Well if maccabi Haifa was/is good enough for sainsbury and ruka to be in the Roos squad then it’s a good sign for strain.

Another benefit for this seasons a league, strain moves on and another kid gets a chance. Good for all

Javi Lopez has spent pretty much his entire career at RB so he’ll now play in Strain’s position so we’ll have to look for a new left back.

I can see us signing one of the following players. Garuccio because he’s a local who previously played for the club and is low in City’s pecking order, Gersbach because he’s young and not playing much overseas or Ota because he’s out of contract and Perth have bought in Jack Clisby.

Tbf, Ota wasn't announced as one of the 9 departures, so I'm guessing that Perth fans are hopeful that Clisby is his back-up, rather than his replacement. If Clisby has been signed for the starting-11, Perth fans should prepare themselves to miss out on the finals again, as the guy is NPL standard, and definitely not A-League standard.

How often do we see a player have a barnstorming season when it's time to get a contract, only for them to revert back to the standards they'd shown in the previous years? It's a rubbish signing, and he's a major downgrade on Ota.

I’m not saying Clisby is the best full back in the league or anything but he’s no where near as bad as you’re making him out to be.

I also can’t see him leaving CCM where he was a guaranteed starter to warm Perth’s bench. I think he’ll end up being a regular starter.
