Not necessarily. You can think that such and such a person is probably guilty of x while having serious reservations about a popular movement seeks to punish such individuals.

And that's aside from the other issue. As far as criminal law is concerned, it's not a question of whether a person is innocent or guilty. It's a question of whether there's sufficient evidence to prove guilt.

I just find the levels of animosity between people in Australian (and US) society unbearable. Everybody hates each other.

If somebody has done something wrong. One group of people refuses to consider the possibility that that person is in the wrong.

And another group of people wants the harshest punishment dished out and wants the person ostracised for life. In criminal proceedings, there's plenty of dehumanisation of criminals. And such dehumanisation is wrong. In the less prominent cases, careers are ended and people face lifelong stigma. All retribution, no rehabilitation.

No effort to understand human behaviour (good and bad) at a fundamental level. Social media and 24 hour news have made it worse.

It's bad enough that this divisiveness is everywhere in politics. It's filtering through to football. And football forums.
