We are all in this together!
Just as he jets off in a private jet paid for by us to cross state borders for a family visit....

Don't forget that he tried to hide it by using an old photo for Father's day, implying that he didn't visit his family.

NSW and VIC (and ACT but they are a conforming bunch) will get the overall nation's vaccination rate over 80% in November or December. WA, QLD and SA have had no cases most of the year, their leaders riding high on keeping themselves locked away from rest of the country, their vaaccination rates will fall further and further behind NSW et al.

Just catching up on this thread so not sure if someone has said this but Pfizer here in SA only opened up to under 40s a few days ago.

I went to one of the big govt clinics today for my first dose and it was jammed with people so I think/hope we will see a big upwards trend in our %s soon.

I did suggest that there were quite a few fallacies there regarding the attitudes of people in SA, WA and Qld. I happen to work in a team with people in all those states and the attitudes are virtually the same. Everyone knows COVID is inevitably going to end up in our states, and probably not when we "allow it" so everyone is eager to get vaccinated. The idea that the various state governments are sabotaging their rollouts is pretty fanciful too.

Apart from NSW getting more Pfizer. What's different is ATAGI have recommended a much shorter gap between doses for AZ in NSW and Victoria because of their emergency status. This has driven more under 50s to get AZ in those jurisdictions.
Personally I considered getting an AZ jab in late July but doing the maths, I wouldn't have ended up fully vaccinated until late October. I ended up getting Pfizer in August and am already done.

Yeah that's why I went for Pfizer as soon as it became available, mainly just wanting to get it over and done with sooner.

Unfortunately now I could have gotten a second AZ in the same timeline, and I haven't been able to get a second Pfizer booking yet despite looking every day thanks to Scomo sending all of the Pfizer to essential voters in Sydney.

McJules - you are dealing with very very small numbers

If society was set up to stop 3 children from dying then lockdown would be permanent and society would resemble something like the matrix. 2000 people in Australia die from the flu each year alone. As I said, the last 18 months has been sensationalising every case and part of opening up is a reality check around that. Of the 3 children that died from COVID, many more children have either died from COVID related suicide or ruined their futures by lack of a quality education. You're missing the bigger picture

As for hospitalisation figures, what we are seeing today wouldnt even be 20% of what we'd be seeing after we open up. If NSW has already reached capacity, after 18 months of pandemic planning, then thats just poor

People are going to choose whether to hospitalise or not. You cant use a small data set of those who died at home and project it across the population as the normal. If 0.6% of people worldwide are listed as critical then why did Victoria claim 10% of people require hospitalisation?

Anti vaxx, pro mask, fear of opening up. Its all the same sensationalised crap. If you were to chart the number of children who have died this year and list the cause you'll find that COVID, even in an open society, is not the least of your worries

600 die from flu not 2000. I'll find the link.  (Pneumonia is rolled into influenza on the ABS which skews the result up).

https://www.doherty.edu.au/news-events/news/statement-on-the-doherty-institute-modelling

But having said that I agree with you. 3 kids are in ICU not 300. We can't stay locked up forever. And there's no vaccine for under 12s yet so what are those people saying? Even at 100% vaxxed we have to wait until there's a vaccine for under 12s.

He’s a leader. Leaders lead by example.

Didnt he say ‘we are all in this together’ when it’s a lie.
How many holidays too has he had in last few years? The guy is a complete slob.

And Morrison is the one who has closed international borders not allowing anyone home because he still has not built facilities. But ok for him to jet off on a pilgrimage through Cornish pubs.

How anyone could legitimise this hypocrisy is beyond.
I have heard McGowan has made exceptions for rich people too. Just as sickening.

Federal bureaucrats turned down an offer from pharmaceutical giant Pfizer in mid-2020 for a detailed meeting with top executives and the Health Minister about the company’s progress on a coronavirus vaccine, as other countries were already on track to signing deals for millions of doses.

I agree that NSW should be getting more vaccines allocated to it because of the outbreak. However: (1) the Federal Government did say this was going to stop but instead, we now learn that it will continue until November, (2) the Federal Government and NSW have no right to brag about being faster if more are allocated to NSW, and (3) if WA/QLD are slower by a few weeks because of it's lower allocation, the Federal Government and NSW have no right to complain.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/states-have-to-wait-for-pfizer-boost-after-figures-confirm-nsw-got-extra-20210907-p58pnr.html

Other states and territories will be sent higher Pfizer supplies to reverse the gains for NSW but the adjustments are not expected to start until November because of the threat from soaring coronavirus case numbers in the country’s biggest state.

Mr Hunt promised 1.7 million additional doses for all states and territories next week from deals with the United Kingdom and Singapore in recent weeks, saying they would be shared on a per-capita basis.

Yup. We went the cheap route and then bragged about being "front of the queue". Now we have to run around trying to do swap deals with the UK and other early adopters.

Having said that Victoria was prioritised during their last outbreak.

Because they are a risk. Both for themselves and for vulnerable adults.

If children are a risk category then Australia wouldnt be opening up. Pure and simple. Australia has held off opening up until it has been deemed safe to do so and if there was any indication every child in this country was a risk category there is no doubt we would still be using the old toolset

This notion that we can "mitigate" risk by having masks in school, opening windows or trying to impose social distancing (despite it never being enforced in schools due to it being impossible due to volume issues) is just a load of rubbish. As is the logisitcs of shutting down schools everytime there is an infection. Kids dont only go to school or catch it from school. If that was the case then the first kid that takes it to class is a paradox

Kids are going to catch this from their household and they are just as much a risk to the vulnerable members of their household as those who go to work
