It's quite an achievement when a Craig Kelly UAP ad isn't the most dishonest and pernicious garbage on the page.

That and having Harvey Norman ads. Seriously the paper trying play us for fools.  Also on the uap  thing .I signed up as 4 fictional people with ridiculous emails. And I got  emails on each one.  Imagine sending emails to iamgod@gmail.com,kevsasexmachine@gmail.com and imadickhead@gmail.com  . They don't check their databases

Certainly looks like it's trending down. The r0 is currently below 1. I just hope when we open up, it hovers around this level and nothing more.

As we've seen in other countries once openning up infections blow up.

True but who cares?

A vaccine doesnt stop you from getting the virus or spreading it. I think it just shortens the infection window but for households and work places its not enough to make a difference

The difference is with a double dose you are very unlikely to be hospitalised and even less likely to die from it

The stone cold reality is the virus will run rampant through the vaccinated population, given only ~50000 have actually caught it, and the level of apathy we'll see. We could be talking 20,000 to 40,000 cases a day nationally which from a total stat alone is enough to scare those people who have panicked over a single case. I even skim read a headline over standard token health official claiming 80% double doses isnt enough to "control" Covid. Who gives a shit. The objective was never to control or eliminate it

I think from now onwards stats should be separated into 0 dose, 1 dose and double dose. This should calm a lot of people down. It is also important from an opening up perspective to see the ratios. A lot of double vaxx people may not even know they had the virus so it may still be skewed towards the non vaccinated but its still important to see how much "herd coverage" the vulnerable part of the population are actually getting

If we see, for example, 100-200 a day of 0 dose infections then that's a win IMO, even if the total figure is 5 figures

Yes I'm not fussed my family is double vaxxed and ready BUT this unique country and all I expect a back lash from many people in time upon openning with infections expected to rise alot and hospitals get maxxed out (if so but likely) and deaths more than people like to stomach there will be a backlash, people screaming out get this into more control and pressure will be applied to lock up again to slow the train down.

Good to see the two LGAs in Melbourne (Hume and Greater Dandenong) I was worried about have caught up big time, with 9.5% and 8% of the eligible population getting their first jab this week. The only Victorian LGA that's still in the 50s is City of Melbourne with 59.5%, but again I'm pretty sure that will catch up quickly too due to the younger demographic.

Surf Coast Shire joins Queenscliffe in having over 90% first dose, in fact Queenscliffe is already at 80.1% double jabbed. Similar demographics too I guess, but Surf Coast is much larger, 32k population.

To some it could be looked upon as a great overdue showdown, grabbed this from another forum I frequent below :

Yes this is turning into a perfect storm.

Dan's continual use of "NSW got all the vaccine" or "Feds havent given us enough" is now coming home to roost.

Had he been far more up front months ago about exactly what 70 and 80% would look like we could have dealt with all this back when his cry's were closer to the truth.

Fact is he's been dragged kicking and squealing to divulge his plan because NSW are showing him up.

Unions and like a snake eating itself. ALP will be in disarray if the broader Union memberships blame Dan for compulsory Vax.

And if he does a backflip to keep the Unions happy the Heathcare sector and Education sectors will savage him.

Meanwhile the Greens are frothing at the ALP over the Subs.

And Albos approval rating is at an all time low.

Grab your popcorn.

So if vaccines don't work to reduce infection and lockdowns don't work to reduce infection, why are case numbers trending down?

A lot of people's understanding of the virus is stats in a spreadsheet. They take the last 14 days and then apply whatever growth pattern they see for the next period and they end up predicting 6000 cases in the middle of October. The modelling has always been flawed and every report I have read has more pages of weaknesses, limitations and assumptions than actual content

This virus is simply one infected person passing it on to another infected person under the right circumstances. The key to uncontrollable outbreaks like we see overseas is repeated "patient zeros" so the virus has a chance to hit different areas and has a chance to establish itself. We dont have that due to quarantine. Any single infection will eventually reach natural end points which may be 1 like we saw in QLD and WA or 20000 like we saw in Victoria last year. The virus in NSW has reached its natural peak due to social consistency and will start to wind down unless there are significant changes in social policy

Restrictions are typically used to force those end points like social distancing, awareness, and containment. But not surprisingly they only work if people follow them. Victoria's modelling assumes 95% compliance. If the reality is people arent going to follow the rules then you end up in situations like NSW and Victoria and given this is a social disease, this kind of social modelling is integral to understanding it and controlling it

There is more than one tool in the kit. There is no doubt NSW and Victoria ended up accelerating their outbreaks. Take a look at NSW December last year where they controlled it with a better balance, and again in June last year. Even if you inflate the figures due to the delta variant it would have simply been an uncomfortable 4-5 weeks and maybe 1000 cases in total. This is where your point of "lockdown reducing numbers" isnt quite correct (in this particular outbreak) because the virus didnt start at 1500 a day. Lockdown didnt cause it to drop from 1500 a day to 1000, it caused it to rise from 20 a day to 1500, and then from a natural peak due to the finite number of people involved it is now starting to decline

I said long ago Australia should do away with the statisticians and manage this with infectious disease experts and people with a good understanding of behavioral science. Every single model and prediction they have made hasnt just been a little bit out, it has been radically out

Not sure the protestors know what communism or socialism is.

What their conspiracy theories point towards is the height of capitalism on steroids.

And at the protest/riot yesterday the irony of standing out the front of ‘your union’ complaining of left wing politics lol.

See the bloke complaining of fighting communism back home in croatia (he looked mid 30s so not sure how that works) and he finished it off by kicking a dog that walked past.

I just went to get a coffee and walked past at least three building sites open so not sure whats going on there.

I did read, not sure how true it is though, that the clowns responsible for the weekend protest were sending out messages to get down to the CFMEU offices. Have read this morning that they're doing the same thing again.

Again, not sure if true or not.

CFMEU protesting near their office next to Vic Market again, much more peaceful at the moment. There's definitely other anti-lockdown protesters with them this time, I've seen that "freedom" banner before.

Where are you getting your information exactly?

The Chinese vaccines so far have been clearly shown to be significantly less effective than just about any other vaccine out there, so much to the point that healthcare workers in countries like Thailand are protesting, demanding a third booster shot.

The Sputnik vaccine actually looks quite good.

I find it absolutely astonishing, however, that you are particularly wary of data corruption or interference by big pharmaceutical companies yet immediately take the anecdote from an authoritarian dictatorship at face value.

As I've said before I'm wary of the CCP and the official messaging they parrot at the best of times-

At the same time, if something works then it works. Hence why the Chinese vaccine MAY work, however I'd be more inclined to see if the messaging matches the product description after distribution/ use in other countries with a more liberal approach towards journalism...
