+x@ Paul01 The old ffa was getting crowds of 40,000+ up to their last season. Based on the recent reported sale of 30% of the league for $130m, would put the total value of the league that they built in just 15 years in the vicinity of half a Billion dollars (even after covid). And you say the league was "killed" ? The crowds were killed

+x+x+xNo Sturridge Attendance 3013 at AAMI Park 3k is about double what people were expecting. So are any other venues where the game could have been played in Melbourne with lighting meeting the broadcast requirements for A-Leagues matches (since Lakeside was canned by SM FC) Whitton Oval perhaps? I assume that Knights stadium doesn't meet the broadcast requirements either. Please confirm Melbournians To be honest, their best bet until their new ground is built in 2071 is probably Docklands, with games in Geelong or Tassie whenever the AFL monopolises the ground. Sure it will look crap with 3k fans in a 50k oval, but it meets broadcast standards and is at least on the westside of the CBD (and therefore marginally easier to access for their core crowd than AAMI Park), and now that Victory has left it would be a point of difference with the other two clubs.

+x+x@ Paul01 I still don't see anything in there close to 40,000+ Correct. Plus Wellington having to play in Wollongong doesn't help. Gallop and Lowy killed the league when they neutered active support. It will be a slow burn to get it back. At least there was active support at AAMI Park. Plus the RBB has been back at CommBank for 2 weeks in a row plus there was Active Support for both Sydney and Newcastle in the away bays. I noted that there were over 4000 at 2 FFA Cup games recently South Melbourne FC v Melbourne City and Sydney Olympic v Smurfs Yeah, it's going to be quite some time before we can even get back to the state the league was in at the mid-2010s, let alone grow from there. In the last couple of years, whatever could go wrong did go wrong for the A-League: - a civil war in the administration tore the game apart - the governing body launched an ill-starred attack on active support, which effectively killed off the A-League's major selling point - expansion was botched and the two teams chosen are going to take a long time to win significant support (if they even last that long) - WSW and SFC spent several years away from their traditional grounds, which has whittled away their support (the same is now happening with the Roar in Redcliffe) - Victory suffered a catastrophic collapse as a football club, which alienated the biggest fanbase in the league - and then to top it all off there was the pandemic The main thing to achieve right now is to make sure all the clubs survive and that the league is on a stable commercial footing. Then we can dream of sold-out stadiums and massive TV ratings.

BR v AU - 9,000 (8,000-9,000 seems to be their go). MCFC v WU - 8,500 (Slightly higher than their usual numbers). SFC v Jets - 7,500 (more shit weather forecast and we know how Sydney people are scared of rain). MFC v CCM - 2,500 (I'm not very familiar with Penrith, but Google Maps tells me its a little over 50km from Campbelltown). MVFC v PG - 9,500 (Sturridge factor or not, 6:45pm Sunday fucking sucks).

Friday night in Wollongong is a hard sell, even if it the first double-header of the season with the A-League Women As for the Bullsh1tters (aka Macarthur), their poorly run club could hire 6 coaches to shuttle all of their plastics to Penrith for 50-odd minute bus trip on the recently widened Northern Rd (dual carriage way for most of the way). And Penrith Panthers don't like cutting the grass to a proper football (round ball) length so the pitch will be quite spongy so the ball won't travel well. Maybe some CCM fans will travel with about a 90 minute car trip from Gosford

The ALW women's game was delayed due to lightning so the weather did have an effect, albeit a small one. Still 400 more than for the a Saturday game against the Mariners. Some of the RBB travelled to the game on a Friday Night and made an atmosphere. Don't recall the same vibe for Mariners game. There was a bit ore for the FFA Cup game at WIN on Wednesday.

Yes but what we are seeing now is the results of long term mismanagement. One thing is certain - if metrics don't improve significantly, there will be a no next TV deal. The A League is on its final warning.

Do you attend any games ? I'm off out to Kogarah just now to enjoy this evenings match.
