This appointment is a fucking embarrassment & a slap in the face to Australian football in general.

They have appointed someone who has never coached.

Thats amazing, he is clearly so much more tactically astute than local Australian NPL coaches that have been doing it for years......

There is no football played in this country besides the so called top flight.

Even with name recognition this is his first attempt at coaching a club which is risky. Hopefully he can make a difference for them.
Macarthur have been strange this season. Went from top 3 at the beginning, to then struggling away from home and then stuttered to a halt. Given the squad they had there was no excuse to make the top 6 and some here suggested there was conflict between Ante and the players. Hopefully it isn't anything more than that...

He is only 50 FFS.Fergie was still going well into his 70's.

I thought you would like him as it was your uncle Frank that originally brought him out to Australia.

Lmao underrated

:D and there I was treading lightly so as to not upset lol.......

I'd seriously like to hear from those supporters approving ?
Imagine for eg the SPL seeing so many have jumped on the band wagon re Ange IF he didn't have any coaching experience but as an ex player got the Hoops gig - how do you think that would have come across there ?
We're talking our Pro level game here.
It is another slap in the face to the locals let alone what of all the current AL assistants who could have fitted the bill for eg ?
Or how about another experienced 1st team coach from Asia or ME - why not try and entice a well qualified Jap coach another option ?
Wouldn't any of the above be better for the Bulls let alone their academy players down.

Attempt to cash in on his name-well known to EPL/Eurosnobs though less so to the younger generation. The Bulls have not set the world on fire with unimaginative  play despite some good players on their roster-Davila,DDS,Liam Rose. They need a name to get interest going in an area which should be a nursery for the code but his lack of coaching credentials may backfire.Anyway good luck to him and them.

I get yours and Davide's pov but even for the sake of good publicity IF its a fail just as what occurred with GOD what is the point and for the good of the game overall ahead ?
OK we have a known name coming on board but what top league we know anywhere assigns a unkown, its de ja vue once again.
Hope he cuts the mustard for the Club on the backfoot failures ahead not good media wise and the game.

If he's good enough to coach the whole A-league Allstars, he's good enough to coach one of the feeder squads

yes bud I know that all too well BUT he actually has a coaching resume obviously despite the Hoops/supporters and general over there wouldn't have ever heard of him BUT as said we know he's a proven gaffa - was saying it hypothetically IF he had NO coaching experience and he got the Hoops gig.
Would never have happenned period thats the point.

Not saying I'd want him to coach United but I couldn't care less who coaches other clubs.

It's just the instant outrage over the top whinge fest here that's tiresome. That's all I personally meant.

As if ex players don't get to coach clubs before it's "deserved" in other leagues.

Look how that turned out.

Yeah, shocking. After finishing last and conceding an A-League record goals the previous season, Fowler only managed to get the side into the top 4 the following season.

So many local managers waiting for an opportunity to coach at the highest level in Australia and Macarthur give the position to Dwight Yorke. Has he coached before?

Our coaches are not producing good football. Victory are efficient but that's it. City underperforming under Kisnorbo. Veart is the best of them and the best-selling of lots of is Montgomery who is a Brit. As for the other Aus A League coaches... Forget it. It's naive to think that there are better coaches in the NPL.
There is so little excitement in the A League that I'm all forced a wild card with profile like Yorke.

Re GOD mentioned in CO post - at least GOD had his coaching license long before coming here and some experience, OK Thailand gig you think WTF but he was in trenchs at least then taking up a LFC Academy gig.
So compared to DY he had some runs on the board coaching wise.

I think thats a little simplistic though Charlie. Coaches are limited by the players at their disposal but thats a whole other conversation. Yorke's appointment is of a coach with NO prior coaching experience. Its bad enough the APL has insulted all of Australian football by honouring him as coach of the supposed "best players of the Aleague system for the year" rather than giving it also to the best Australia coach of the year... this appointment is a marketing exercise which is ONLY viable for Macarthur because there is no consequence for  poor performance. It seems, at arms length, that they are happy to hire an ex player in order to sell a few more tickets a round and dont really give a crap if he can coach or not .... We all laughed at Usain Bolt trialling but this is pretty much the same thing... Fowler at least, as LFC mentions above, had stood in the sheds in front of a whiteboard and 11 players before.... has Dwight?

Definitely only a marketing exercise.

The other issue for is the time out of football Yorke has had. If he just finished playing football 1-2 years ago and moved into this role it would be more palatable.

But does anyone know what Yorke has done since he finished playing in 2009??

Because stevey g had so much experience when he took over Rangers. "It would never happen". Frank Lampard absolutely bombed with derby in league 1 (let's be honest that is about the level of the aleague) with his vast experience of zero as manager to them to the championship playoff.

Yorke has just finished his badges with man U and they are publicly backing him. If Yorke wants to become a manager he could very well do well as he always had a very good football brain. Let him show what he's got before ridiculing him

You've sort of proved our point though mate. Lampard, Gerard etc etc all cut their teeth in 2nd or 3rd division positions as did 99% of all current managers in senior positions world wide.... Or at the very least spent a few seasons as assistant coaches, managed the seconds or even managed the women's team before they were "given their chance"
Yorke I agree, could do amazingly well and I hope he does, why not? Fact is that it devalues the perception of the league as a gimmick AND is unfair to the hard work put in by Australian coaches who will never be given a chance. Don't the APL franchises care about the level of Australian players and coaches the A league produces? Is "new football" not about the good of the game anymore? Was it ever?

Did Gerard?

On 7 September 2017, the club announced Gerrard would manage the Under-19 team in the 2017–18 UEFA Youth League184]
In late April 2018, Gerrard entered talks to become the new manager of Scottish Premiership club Rangers

ah some good points - SG, had 2yrs coaching in the academy for starters after fresh out of the game, his call to Rangers was up to them they took the punt rest is history.
Good fortune ? or good management ? bit of both I guess but he was the type for coaching as we could see, some are not like for any job.
EX players are a hard call to be coachs - most don't cut it period they are assigned the job because of name alone.
Lampard is another good mention, he inherited a pretty good squad @ Derby and getting to the play offs was commendale, he should have stayed their to keep learning his craft but couldn't resist the call back to the Blues that was way above his ability as shown with a damn fine squad.
Now suffering big time at the Toffs and likely gone shortly in turn scarring his Coaching reputation.
You can add Rooney as well but at least he has stayed with them despite relegation BUT really who would bother above in higher leagues taking him on now but a romantic Club owner.
I don't think ALM is even at L1 levels consistantly imo.

SG/Lampard/Rooney had/have very good football brains as well, 1 has succeeded with a title and made sure AV stays in EPL without a pres season etc, the other 2 are minor train wrecks at this stage.
Being endorsed by United means that only, not much but your ol Club gives you a good reference, I didn't ridicule him but made the point considering Bulls/ALM are in crictical times wouldn't it have been wiser pulling a credible coach with experience instead of the name and a punt the next couple of years.

barely a year from what I can find

between 1-2 officially, he finshed up with Galaxy 2016 but he was always a tactician type guy, was around gaffa management briefings heaps prior and then getting his license.
Like I said fresh out of the game, was his next out clause process, fingers on the pulse - a bit more preparation than who we're talking about talking comparing apples with apples.

A lot of negativity, which is fair enough (but also seems to be the default setting here). Seeing as Dwight Yorke has long spoken out about the lack of opportunities for Black coaches in English football, should we not see his appointment as something of a positive?

BTW, how was Fowler a failure? If anything, he showed what's possible for a foreign coach who comes in with a knowledge of the league and a firm plan. Are we just sensitive because he had relative success with a bunch of League One no-names?
