+xseriously this guy makes me puke........ Also he has just put down so many foreign players who have come here played pretty damn good and delivered because they are not "known" brands. Also, the 'big names' that have played in the A-L haven't really been champions here. Look at ADP. He may have put bums on seats, but SFC weren't playing very well. They didn't make finals the first season. They scraped through to finals in his second season, but were eliminated in the first final by MV. At the end of the day, the fans want to see their team win. It's one thing to get bums on seats, but keeping those bums there requires wins. Statistically, these 'big names' are almost a guarantee the team is not going to win a trophy that year. When we look at the sides that have been premiers over the years, it's foreigners like Broich, Berisha, Ninko, Bobo, Janco, Matthew Delpierre, Castro, Fornaroli, Hernandez, etc, (i'm sure there are many more) who stand out as champions for their respective clubs. Unfortunately players like ADP, Honda and even Cahill are not remembered for being great in the A-League. The whole 'big foreign name' marquee thing is basically the ALDI loss leader model. ALDI works by having some shiny product that they sell at cost (or close to it). This gets people in the door, and when they discover the product is not available (or not very good), the hope is they still stick around and buy some sausages and chocolate. The problem with the A-League, is that the people who will be attracted by an ADP, are only really interested in the sugar hit of seeing ADP. Unfortunately they are not gonna stick around for Ninko, even though Ninko has been an absolute pleasure to watch over the years.
