I don’t think Covid was ‘bullshit’ as you so eloquently put it, in fact it is still very real and still making many people sick.

No, Covid was not Bullshit but the APL using that reason to Postpone to an Epidemic fashion was, as I eloquently put it,' Bullshit!'
Clubs pretending to have almost all their players infected when all the while 2-4 players might have been. Unless there are legitimate doctors certificates posted on a website, I will never believe the clubs in a pink fit.
These are the the entities that the FA have Entrusted to make decisions with, such as to accept the NSD to run alongside with their APL. All the best to JJ in dealing with GREEDY CLUB OWNERS. Heaven forbid Pro/Rel ever gets mentioned.
May not see the NSD at all in reality, or the Transfer Fees as well, if the APL are Not brought into line, so they do not continue to disrupt and agitate the process.

Channel 10 boss finally acknowledges shocking ratings for A-League after the network paid millions for exclusive free-to-air rights

Channel 10's top executive has expressed her disappointment at the ratings for the A-League after the network paid $200million for free-to-air rights a year ago.

According to OzTam ratings, the Saturday night soccer game featured on Channel 10's main channel, has attracted just 86,000 viewers on average and declined throughout the season.

Beverley McGarvey, the Executive Vice President of Paramount Australia, told TV Tonight she had not been 'loving Sunday mornings' after looking at Saturday's overnight viewing figures for the network.

The A-League's finals even failed to attract viewers. The clash between Western United and Wellington Phoenix in May drew fewer viewers than 10's own 10 peach and 10 bold.

McGarvey said it was early days for the five-year contract with the A-League.

Wasn't the $200m for the whole package including the streaming on Paramount?

Well, this is the more remarkable bit about the article.  We know the ratings have been quite low, but for a senior executive to say it so publicly is quite unusual.

Its always good to see a persons statement put in its context:-

"McGarvey also maintains that A-League has a been a good driver for Paramount+ subscriptions, but on Free to Air it’s been a modest first season."

Is the plan to stay the long haul in the hope it builds?

“I think that’s absolutely true.  We would prefer the ratings to be larger, but obviously the Men’s grand final was at the weekend and it’s up year on year, compared to where it was. We didn’t have it last year, but it has grown. So the reach has grown. I think we are starting to see green shoots already,” she continued.

“We have talked about it being a great success for Paramount+ class and the A-League fans are really committed. They watch a lot of it.“But it’s been one year, it’s a long deal. They’ve rescheduled 88 games, which meant that we were playing games on a Tuesday not in the venue that we wanted. So it’s been hard. And despite all of that we’ve had a solid start… great on streaming. But we’ve got growth that we need to happen in front of the paywall, and now that we’ve had the men’s final, we’ll sit down with the team now and go how do we grow it next year? You’re always in for the long haul with those sorts of things.

”And hopefully next season will see the game build from some very grim Free to Air numbers on Saturday night."

“That’s fair. Dan (Monaghan) and I haven’t been loving Sunday mornings….”

More of a warning shot aimed at the APL, who need too start performing.

Just reinforces the point that people havent forgotten where channel 10 is and that FTA isnt a dead medium

If the football event is interesting enough, people can and will watch it. I suspect those ratings would have been higher as they were averaged out over the full game but most people would have watched extra time and the penalties

The interest in our game has always been there, but the interest in the Australian game, particularly the week in / week out stuff has always been a different problem

Relevant... the vid is very relevant to our future...

Maybe the A-League could do something that would make it interesting.

Perhaps only the top 11 qualify for the next stage ?

Still reading reports about the AFL in the mix for a big 5  year deal with Paramount/Ten, worth $600 million per annum.

https://tvtonight.com.au/2022/07/report-10-bids-3b-for-afl-rights.html

10 has bid a record $3b for AFL rights according to a media report.

The Australian reports 10 is understood to have told AFL executives it would be keen to have all the rights, including digital rights, telecasting some matches on its main free-to-air channel and the remainder on Paramount+ streaming.

Incumbents Foxtel and Seven are still considered favourites to maintain their package of rights, but the AFL hopes the 10 offer, which sources say is worth $600m annually over at least five years, will ignite a bidding war.

Foxtel and Seven had previously clinched a record $2.508bn deal with the AFL for six years from 2017, though the terms for Covid-affected years were later reduced when the pandemic hit.

Because barely anyone can justify throwing in the extra coin for just aleague. Sorry but that's the reality. The lack of numbers watching back that up.

You just need to look back through this thread to see we were hitting 100k regularly. Now it's not even in the top 20.

There's probably a fair bit of truth in this.
Fox/Kayo currently in about 30% of households.
Paramount?  I don't know, maybe 5% of households?
Also, Ten is currently almost rock bottom as far as FTA channels go, so for them, it's clearly a make or break decision:  get the AFL at all costs, or pack it in.
