the tactic of having a good presser with a stinging snap shot like Duke actually has merit against a France like team

Yeah most of us are but it's weird how in these games the players followed the plan to the letter. The pressure and cover was amazing. The lazy work in other games didn't see goals conceded but the stupid calls for China and Oman penalties cost us.

The Sydney FC Connection of Arnie and Redmayne.

His squad selections today and during the course of the tournament still baffle me but they sure ended up working.  Amazing.

Credit to Arnie, even though im not he's biggest fan as a coach he certainly has alot of passion and desire for Australian football given he's being in the game for almost 3 decades.

He did a wonderful job in getting the Olyroos into the Olympics with similar expectations when they were not playing regular football, he knows how to get the best out of Australian players in tough circumstances like these.

Hopefully the people at Football Aus have a serious discussion in how to get Oz football into the next level because making the World Cup from 2026 won't cut it anymore when there will be more spots available, after we want to win this trophy one day right?

But I can only admire Arnie and coaching staff in finding a way to get the possible out of the current players and a find a way into the World Cup, a great achievement considering the tough avenue, but well done!!!

The massive hole in his armour is his notion that once you have a lead then it is ok to sit back and defend.  It has notably been his undoing several times. Ask Brisbane fans.
Its extended version is the concept of heading into a game with a completely defensive mindset with a view to "snagging" one when the other side is out of position and frustrated.
Recent Olympics is an example.

Pim tried that concept in South Africa against Germany in the first game.  He put our most accomplished diver up front and then tried to get everybody to close it up tight.  Just doesn't work here because we don't have the ability that teams like Italy had to suddenly, skilfully and accurately move the ball up the centre.  We ended up with a red card and a 0-4 scoreline.

In the following games we played the natural game and went damn close to qualifying.  If Germany hadn't taken their foot off the pedal in the last game we would have.

I feared massively that we would get an early lead in this game just for this reason.  We have always had our best results when we just keep it going as hard as we can.

Has to be now probably the greatest manager in Australian football holistically speaking, in regards to achievements and service.

That Australia squad has 1/3rd of the quality it did in 2018,1/5th in 2014 and 1/16th in 2006. He had Kye Rowles in CB for the fuck sake hahahahahaha.

Gimme a break.  No way should he be coaching at the WC.  No way would we have accepted this qualification campaign from a foreign-we sacked Holger and this campaign was even worse.  Thanks Arnie bit not simply up to coaching us at the WC against France Denmark and Tunisia.

I dont 'rate GA' at all but im going to give him some credit here, it wasnt an 'easy' campaign i think almost everyone wrote us off (including me) after we did not auto qualify.

I agree he probably won't do great at the world cup in Qatar but he deserves to take the squad to next world cup - id like to see him moved on after Qatar as i do think we need a change but he has earn these 3 big games

i will add i also thought Holger deserved to take the squad to the WC after qualifying

Arnie got us through, but I am still far from convinced about his ability as an international coach. Also, he has been found out in tournament play before (Asian Cups 2007 and 2019, Olympics 2021), and I don't think he has the tactical nous or the ability to manage his players well in tournament play, with games every 3-4 days. I can only hope I am proved wrong later this year.

Hopefully the people at Football Aus have a serious discussion in how to get Oz football into the next level because making the World Cup from 2026 won't cut it anymore when there will be more spots available, after we want to win this trophy one day right?

As I'm going  around the Federations, only 12-14  football nations have qualified for the last five World Cups in succession. We are a member of this group. This is pretty amazing!

Also, to say we are a member of weak football federation doesn't have the validity - if it once did. Asia has improved. The supposedly weak Asian Confed number 5 team in 2022 WCQs has defeated the ostensibly powerhouse South American Football Confed number 5 team in 2022 WCQs.

Too many fans are obsessed about players' club careers to determine their international quality.

One of the reasons Australia has done quite well to qualify  is because of an Aussie development system and plan. Teams playing similar systems in National Aussie teams in Under 16s, Under !7s, Under 20s, Under 23s, and Senior level, create cohesion. It is also easier for new players to perform their roles within a familiar paradigm.

This has helped our WCQing cause.

Wrong.

Rowles has improved very quickly in a short time.

He has done little wrong in the last few Socceroo games,  despite having little international experience.

He may have played as well as any CB we've had in the last few years. If  Rowles keeps this up, he and Souttar may be starting CBs at the Qatar WC.

The FFA or whatever they call themselves have the cash now to splash it on a top drawer coach and get past the first round.  Arnold ain't it.  Also isn't he getting paid a bundle anyway, is he the best we can get for our money?

if he was English he'd be getting knighted, at the end of the day he got us there and should be rewarded for it.

Our back is almost sorted for the next 10 years with JCP, Souttar and Rowles.

To do anything at the WC. We need a bolter to have a great season any guesses? I think it might be Peupion maybe Kuol?Yengi? we need a few more skillful forwards.

is he the best we can get for our money?

the issue we have always us we 'demand' the national team manager to be 'based in Australia' Thus the manager has to travel to and from Europe/Asia to watch/manage games

it can be 'very' difficult on the individuals personal life as often the managers family often stays over in Europe.

So yes the money is 'good' but it is probably the most difficult national team job in the world in regards to travel

Most top managers would want to stay in Europe or in there country of residence, so perhaps we could get a stop 'gap' coach for the world cup but i'd probably rather just stick with GA as even though i dont rate him he does know the squad and has got the players this far...

We did get Bert last time around who in fairness 'did his best' but in the end it was a bit waste of a million or so dollars

these Kangaroos can play football -

D2, I'm not so sure......
Bulk of this sqaud is OS based, a few not even played here and some well known mature players.
Most came through our so called system long ago with the exception of the young un's (current systems) AL kids like Atkinson (who wasn't good last 2 games at all after so much fapping by many) Tilio not much game time, McGree not much game time for eg.......

Touch wood these up and comers in U20's etc bring what we need for the future then upon results I'll say yer our system is developing.
