Pretty much this..... A few small hints dropped here and there about an announcement just before the Aleague launch... lets see?.

If we see SU58 win the cup (anything can happen in a final, especially if it goes to pens), it would be a massive shame to not drive that momentum into a proper official statement about the future NSD. Especially with SU58 being a contender for an initial NSD spot. If we hear nothing, it's probably time for the AAFC to return to the whole 'without the FA' idea and find a way to fund/run it themselves.

Even if they dont win the cup mate, I still think its a great achievement by a semi pro club with ambitions. Never has the level between NPL and Aleague been so close (not just on the park but in the back rooms as well) .. If JJ and the FA dont make a move soon I fear that all chances are lost.

yep and nothing like keeping our game overall in the backrooms of BS politics and procastinating no diff to what others crap on of the ol NSL days.
The game here needs the life of the pyrimad for its future period for the participants and supporters.
IF the FA don't stand up real soon for the good of the game below APL they can GGF.

Only now? This thread has been running for 5 years and nothing has changed. Have to laugh at the other thread 'what teams will be in' or something.

As if it's some sort of foregone conclusion.

Even if they do manage to get something happening the format will be some abortion that no one will be happy with.

Yes, definitely a bit of both (and by bureaucracy, I would take that to mean different stakeholders putting in their two bobs worth).
Also, the money side feeds the other.
For example, if they think it's on the expensive side, they are more prone to:
 - introduce higher license fees, and
 - accept offers from APL clubs to play their reserves, which the FA might view as a good option to mitigate the financial risk (not to mention that the APL clubs probably carry the most clout of all the stakeholders).

On the one hand, maybe no news is good news.  The longer the argy bargy, what is the likely outcome?  You can argue that both ways.  Maybe JJ is holding out against the clubs for a more  football centric outcome.  Maybe that's worth the wait.

Sadly your right, not much has changed since all the talk began 5 years ago.

And your right we will probably get an model which isn’t what the game needs going forward.

Following Aus football is one large frustration overall.

Mate, to put it in perspective Australian BASEBALL has a national competition (and one NZ team I believe) yet manage to fly teams around the country to play in front of <500 crowds and they are talking about a women's national league next year.!!!... Lack of money is NOT the only consideration ...... unless you mean keeping the APL cartel investments alive and protected?
The sooner the foreign owners piss off, the sooner we can all get what we want.

How's the SMH president already talking like this though aha:

The beauty of this is that [an NSD's] a competition that will be owned by the FA and they similarly have to put resources in to make sure that the commercial aspect of it, at some point, can contribute back to the clubs," he said.

"I'm not for one moment suggesting that they need to be funding us from day one, not at all. This is an investment that we're all making."But at some point, they also have to make sure that they've got the appropriate resources to make sure that this competition also gives back to the clubs.

Interesting   that   in   the  quotes  from  the  article   JJ    is   still    referring  to   a   "second  tier " comp   ( not  a  'division' ,  or   'national' SD ) .

I  guess  the  champions   league  /  conference    models  are    still   on   the   table ?

As there will not be pro/rel for quite a long time, calling this new level of football a second tier is quite accurate. In saying that though, if this gets going in 2023-24 Remote baby, we should then shed a tear together I feel my dear friend. Then again when WU build their training ground, they estimated it to be completed for the 2023-24 season as well. Will they just? stay tuned!

That is one hell of a long bow even for you.

It really does sound like the potential 2nd div clubs are happy and that there won't be any reserve sides there.
It's the first time I have felt positive this can actually happen.

I thought Nick's quotes are quite reasonable. Do you not agree that the purpose of the competition is to drive improvements at club level? I guess if you see his reference to "resources" as "dividends" or broadcast payments like for the franchises then yeah fair enough but a member's owned club doesn't need to make a profit remember... its all about growing the club. These clubs will be NFP sporting organizations, at least mostly.

What did Lowy and Gallop refer to it as "those fuckin wogs and their shitty clubs will not survive another 15 years of this" perhaps?
