The sudden omission of Sainsbury across the board after a few wayward passes in a friendly is also ridiculous. Got to remember players called for those risky passes as well and he made a good tackle on Wood on the dome and settled after that.

26 Australian players will travel to Qatar for the World Cup in November – and competition for places on the plane hit overdrive with back-to-back wins over New Zealand in the space of four days.

Coach Graham Arnold fielded a full-strength side on Thursday in Brisbane, but a scrappy performance resulted in just a 1-0 win. He changed the entire starting XI – and handed out six debuts, including five off the bench, in Sunday’s 2-0 win.

The first half of that match was again underwhelming, but the second half was much-improved, with the Socceroos playing with courage and creativity going forward while remaining impenetrable at the back.

Many members of the Sunday squad, which Arnold labelled his ‘Plan C’ for Qatar, put their hands up for a spot on the final roster for the World Cup.

As it turns out I'm on the plane to Qatar.

I think Mrcela is making a good push to get into the big shortlist. Dellbridge got the nod ahead though. It's a good thing still as Souttar and Rowles are still recovering and hopefully get fit.

I find that a bit torturous as we're going to see names like Grant and Stensness and then when the names are finalised some of those will remain in the 26. Inevitably there'll be some injuries in the coming weeks. We're probably around 20 locks now.

To think someone like Dougall played so seamlessly for Blackpool on the weekend is frustrating as he just doesn't fit or click with Arnold's system. The same could be said for Elder.

I've also though about how underdone our squad is leading into the tournament. While not burnt out, the majority aren't playing much and I wonder if it'll affect sharpness or hopefully offer a bit of freshness. 

my controversial opinion is that Kuol and Tilio shouldn’t be in the final 26. They’re not even regular starters in the AL yet. Let them establish themselves first. Tilio needs to leave City.

Tilio is definitely out and rightly so. It's a stupid situation at City because they're absolutely stacked. I wish he'd get a loan.

I'd have Kuol on the plane before anyone. Absolutely light years ahead of any australian footballer. Only reason I think NUFC havent loaned him out to europe is they want him to play at WC.
