+x+xmy controversial opinion is that Kuol and Tilio shouldn’t be in the final 26. They’re not even regular starters in the AL yet. Let them establish themselves first. Tilio needs to leave City. I'd have Kuol on the plane before anyone. Absolutely light years ahead of any australian footballer. 100%. Think a front 3 of Kuol, Boyle and Cummings could really do something special for Roos

Is the 55 man squad made public? My understanding is that it wouldn't be.

Arzani did well on the weekend also for LW.

Well looks like Arzani has played himself back into the 50 whatever shortlist... absolutely starred yesterday socring a peach laying another on a pplate after beating his man and hitting the bar from a freekick that was way out.
Him and Kuol have to go to the world cup for the future of Australian football.

Just reading an article right now suggesting the 55 will remain confidential, including to the players themselves, to avoid potential for it to impact their club form.

I really really like this, both cummings and boyle wont take crap from bully defenders and got some real mongrel about them. We going to need that at Qatar. Could see Kuol winning a penalty for us at some stage.

The success (or failure) of the midfield hinges on his inclusion, imo. Or a player like him who can make a real nuisance of themselves, breaking down play while providing adequate distribution. I would swap Devlin for Genreau. Metcalfe for Baccus. Arzani for Maclaren. Rukavytsya for Goodwin.

Also there was a big central defender who was terrific against the Kiwis, wasn't there? He'd come through the US college system and this was his debut. What's his name?
I'd try to have him in there, too. Maybe in lieu of Wright? Some tough calls. Horrible to leave any player out (including those mentioned in my post above).
Elder should really be in the squad, too.

Australia's best left back is Jason Davidson. Come at me.
Maclaren would be completly useless at this level as he has showed time and time again.

Consistently plays well at the highest level of all Australian left backs and only misses out due to niggles every window since 2017 and Arnold's odd favouritisms. I agree on Maclaren though. His league form and set up just doesn't translate to the international arena.

I don't think we'll see much deviation from Arnold.
Getting tired of listing and repeating as the core locks are pretty obvious. RB is still fairly open. The centre backs are assured if fit but if not it sees a real switch. Degenek and Wright have the worst hand currently. Reserve and even starting mids are a question. It'd be nuts not to at least include Devlin. The Rogic question remains.
Up top we know it'll be Maclaren, Duke and then probably Taggart, Cummings

Dellbridge was good vs Kiwis except for one really loose pass that nearly let them score easy goal

I'd love to see Elder get a run.
Wright is very much like an old English defender, tough in defence, not much coming forward or distributing.

It’s impossible to fit everyone in and having watched quite a bit of the SPL I’ve been very surprised of the improvement of Baccus as a defensive midfielder. He takes a backward step to no one and showed in the win against Celtic. You must remember that Genreau is playing regularly off the bench in one of the top 5 leagues in Europe where as Delvin is playing in a league where the top 2 teams would struggle to survive in the French Ligue 1 and the rest would struggle in the French Ligue 2. Delvin is a good player but I just can’t have him in front of Genreau, Baccus & Irvine at the moment. Metcalfe can not get picked because of one cross into the penalty box to Duke & his good long distance shot. The others are just a bit better defensively in the midfield. Arzani can not make it after one good match in 4 years. There are question marks on the injury returning defenders. Next few weeks will decide that.

The exact type of situation they will be in November.

Arnie said on Global Game podcast last night he announced 55 extended squad on Monday. Guess it hasn’t been released publicly but all the players know.

Genreau - yep, he's playing at a higher level than the others. The problem is he's not the type of midfielder to balance out the shortcomings (i.e. where Mooy and Rogic aren't strong). Your Baccus point is valid. But I'd place Devlin ahead of him. Genreau unlucky as he's a gifted midfielder. Arzani - doesn't matter how few matches he has played. He has X-factor of being able to take on (and beat) defences on his own. That's a priceless asset. The only other player in the squad who can do that is Kuol. Whereas for strkers, they can get by without Maclaren in the squad (no offence to him). There's already strikers stronger than Maclaren. It's supply and demand. There's only Kuol. So, Arzani goes on the basis of supply and demand. Metcalfe is a tough call. Personally, I think he has been playing better than Irvine. They can both fit in the squad.
