For context Genreau is playing at a higher level in Ligue 1 than Metcalfe who is coming off the bench in Bundesliga.2 but both are great talents for the future regardless who makes the squad for November.

Genreau isn't actually playing - this puts his inclusion in the squad over Metcalfe or any of the other lower roster midfielders such as Devlin, Baccus, Jeggo, etc as a big headache for Arnold. I have to agree with earlier comments that Metcalfe is simply scoring, assisting and playing more than Genreau. He also offers greater positional flexibility, strength, height and pace. Also has been a game changing impact player with creativity and a great passing range. This would be what he would be likely called upon to do in Qatar. He should be on the plane to WC22 IMO. Ill leave it to GA to justify Genreau's spot on the plane.

Some positive quotes from Arnie re Hrustic https://the-near-post.com/2022/10/30/injured-hrustic-feels-that-hell-be-ready-for-world-cup-reassures-arnold/“He’s very positive about the ankle,” Arnold told ABC Grandstand. “He’s already back walking on it. “Ajdin is a very driven person. A lot of this type of stuff is also mental. If you’re believing that everything will be fine and your energy is right the pain will go away. He’s in good spirits. “He feels that he’ll be ready. We’ve got that bit of time to watch him and see where it’s at now. “My physio Kurt Lisle, who is over in Europe will go down and visit Verona, the staff and also Ajdin. We’ve got people on deck over here in case scenarios like this.”

+xMitch Duke's dream is over. Okayama has been smashed 0-3 in the playoff for promotion. Jolt of shock then thinking injury for WC absence. It's getting scary and emotional for players and fans alike. Despite injuries being part of the game, the timing is heartbreaking. I think these hopefully small injuries to Hrustic and Boyle will actually keep them away from club game danger allowing them to link up and be relatively fit for Australia.

I get that Metcalfe is your personal preference between the two...but my point is Genreau was playing regularly in Ligue 2 last season which is an similar standard to Bundesliga2, if Metcalfe could play regular football in the Bundesliga in the future then fair enough but I dont its fair to judge both players like that. Its an higher standard once your reach the first division so I can understand why Genreau is not getting the minutes he likes, heck even with Mabil he cant get regular game time in La Liga in Cadiz. But for both players they need to keep pushing for a spot but both are great options for the future and both have good skillsets as midfielders but Arnie will need to make that choice between the two if it came down to both.

Just to weigh in with facts and no opinion. Genreau has played 8 Ligue 1 games this season, all as a sub, totalling 87 minutes Metcalfe has played 10 2.Bundesliga games this season, all as a sub, totalling 230 minutes. Plus 1 start in DFB-Pokal totalling 120 minutes.

90 for mooy 80 for Davidson, Jeggo unused
By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

Saw an article about month or so ago that Volpato was ‘still in communication’ with Arnold about his future. Hopefully Volpato was in 55 player list and that Arnold happy to use him. With Rogic not getting minutes lately Volpato could be great replacement in Qatar 🤞

No bigger carrot to dangle than a world cup, so we need to be trying to get him on board now, especially with question marks over Hrustic and Rogic. Journeymen like Duke in J2 good enough for squad but not a kid with bags of future potential, already playing Serie A.

If playing for AS Roma and scoring winning goals in Serie A isnt enough for Arnie and the coaching staff to not considering him playing for the national team, then we dont deserve him unless he rejects the opportunity to go.
Apparently Arnie has been in contact with him so we will find out next week when the World Cup squad gets announced.
But this kid looks like an potential generational talent in Oz football standards at the very least.

This is what Arnie said about Volpato recently “We’ve got two young kids who are doing extremely well in Italy,” Arnold said. “I’ve reached out to both of the boys. I’ve spoken to them on numerous occasions. “At this moment in time, they can play for Italy’s Under-20s and change their mind and play for the Socceroos further down the track. At the moment in time they’re both just wanting to play and stay in Italy and learning the process of Italian football. “I’m pretty sure if I selected one for the World Cup that they would be pretty keen to come. I’m speaking to them. I’m here for them and they text me regularly to see how things are. “Alessandro, we were very close to picking him for New Zealand but we decided not to make that happen at this point in time as a friendly game doesn’t matter, he can still go back and play for Italy. “It was more about him wanting to stay, working hard and cementing his first-team spot at Parma rather than coming here and missing out on important training sessions and potentially losing his position.” https://the-near-post.com/2022/10/29/hopefully-i-can-carry-on-like-this-volpato-after-as-roma-starting-debut/Latest quotes from Mourinho on Volpato here: https://the-near-post.com/2022/11/01/mourinho-on-super-sub-volpato-he-is-a-player-with-first-team-quality/

Id say there is close to 0% chance he will play for us at the WC. He is only 18 and on the cusp of a glittering career in European football, there is no way he is going to jeapordise that by pissing off the Italian fans, media and his club by stabbing Italy in the back and playing for Straya. If he was in England or Spain maybe but not Italy.

The lure of offering Volpato WCUP spot is also ‘balanced out’ by the lure of possibly playing at Euros for Italy. And Italy will most likely qualify for 2026 WCUP with 3 extra Uefa team spots available

McGree apparently played horribly for Middlesbrough tonight with poor passing and pulling out of tackles. My app says he was left midfield tonight which would be a different position.
Thing is, the fans are wrong about his first touch when he has that masterful take on the ball to score some weeks ago. If he's going easy to prevent WC injury then it's pretty understandable. No one wants to take risks now.
