It certainly gets the team analyst calculator working now that Argentina could finish 2nd. Our group faces their group.

Saudi with 3 shots all game. Won 36% of duels and 68% passing accuracy. Shows just have a crack at getting it in the net.

Well that too far to think of.
have we got players with the pace Saudi have ?
Be in your face all game ?
Pressure ball receivers all game ?
And coup de grace take the couple of chances with both hands ?
I mean that was David vs Goliath stuff

Our players do that every week a club level. Whether we do it as a national team depends on the barking instructions from the sideline. It seems we still don't have a true blueprint after 4 years.

Hopefully the blueprint comes out in the morning for it’s all in and the kitchen sink - we better go after them that’s for sure.

Before VAR I couldn't understand being constantly offside and hoping for a favourable verdict from the officials. Today, with VAR, to be caught 3 times offside is stupidity. Once ,you know .....

If one of the opportunities spurned in the first half by being offside had counted, the ball game would have been over.

Very Very poor play!

I had a bit of a wager with mates about which game of the tournament would be "the rape game", and one of them picked SA/ARG. Everyone has long memories from when Germany destroyed them decades ago.

With the air conditioning stadiums it helps teams with pressing, having watched all games so far you get your rewards by pressing hopefully a lesson for our lads against France and take it to them.

Couple of interesting things:
Senegal made hard work for The Netherlands, they pressed and just lacked the cutting edge.
Saudi Arabia werent afraid to not only press high but play an high line too and made Argentina make mistakes in their build up.

Never noticed it before, but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be Matt Leckie's twin brother.

As much as I support the team and want everyone to suceed, when have we looked even remotely cohesive? The plan seemed to be often holding the ball and not having a go for a goal.

Does the forearm being offside count? Tunisia putting a lot of pressure on Denmark. Denmark may be the smarter and strike when a gap appears.

Ball to hand there. No pen for Tunisia. Right call but you see them given. Hannibal on for Tunisia now. They're going for it.

Tunisia player sees ball bang off torso onto fist. VAR says no pen. Right call from that distance. Ref has given a free to Tunisia for some foul play on the box.

Game ends 0:0. Tunisia with a plan. Denmark a bit scrappy and they'll be disappointed.

Well the opening ceremony was disappointing LoL

I wish Ricky Martin and Elton John were both at the opening ceremony lol

But I think Qatar's views on certain happy people made it not possible.

Also Saudi Arabia beat Argentina. I swear Saudi Arabia played like their lives depend on it LOL

Told ya, Hervé Renard is such a good manager. The guy is a tactical genius and brilliant man-manager.

I shouldn't sterwotpe. But compared to previous Saudi sides, this one is seriously motivated. They gave it everything they had to defend.

I wish we could get Renard.

Just realised Chris Beath is the ref for Poland Mexico. He's just given a penalty for a shirt pull on Lewandowski. Fair enough. The hate he'll get from the Mexican online community now.

Ochoa saves to delirium. Ffs as soon as the ball is out he's just waving the throw and gets swarmed by Mexican players saying to ignore any VAR in his ear about an irregularity of the penalty.

Poland gets a penalty. Lewandowski tries to score the penalty, the Mexican keeper saved it

Thats was pure balls to the wall, desperation defending by the Saudis...... holy shit was like a final for them... As much as I want Argentina to do well in their other 2 games, this display by the Saudis is my favourite moment so far......

You could tell they had been subject to some seriously good coaching.  Very, very different to past Saudi teams at the WC, very disciplined, very focused, very physical, incredibly quick to close down their opponents, impressive performance.
