+x+xTold ya, Hervé Renard is such a good manager. The guy is a tactical genius and brilliant man-manager. I shouldn't sterwotpe. But compared to previous Saudi sides, this one is seriously motivated. They gave it everything they had to defend. I wish we could get Renard. Thats was pure balls to the wall, desperation defending by the Saudis...... holy shit was like a final for them... As much as I want Argentina to do well in their other 2 games, this display by the Saudis is my favourite moment so far...... you can't not but admire when you see a team putting their bodies on the line, give it their all against all odds no matter who or where there from. Gutsy gutsy 90mins. Not giving ball players the chance to settle/time on the ball how many times, last ditch saving goal moments, re set lets do it again. Didn't any of our management and fellas see the template. That Tunisia 1st half I watched, I thought WTF these guys are good and talk this is the game for us to get some points lol. Stocky solid quick as well, Danes took a long time to settle in that 1st half, not surprised ended in a draw. ella I'm spent no pissed, had a couple of darts, heaps of caffe, bring on next season lol......

Off to Morocco Croatia today. Dad was Croatian so will take a Cro shirt. Not sure where I'm sitting though so will take a red shirt in my bag. Was literally sitting in the middle of the Dutch fans the other night behind the goal. Had a red, green, yellow and blue shirt which at a quick glance looked like some sort of Senegal supporter wear. Got a few queer looks before they realised it wasn't. That was the first time I've ever been so close to the field at an international. 4 rows from the front and I just couldn't get over how unbelievably fast the players are. It is just so, so quick. Sounds obvious but when you watch it on TV and then from high in the stands it just looks like it does on TV. Up close though it's just next level stuff. So impressive.

+xJust realised Chris Beath is the ref for Poland Mexico. He's just given a penalty for a shirt pull on Lewandowski. Fair enough. The hate he'll get from the Mexican online community now. What an honour. Say what you want about refs but what a thrill for him.

Reports VAR seemed to not consider the farthest Saudi defender for one of the offside goals. I beg to differ. That was surely checked. It's a very interesting case study now to see how Saudi go on.

Japan's national anthem is fantastic, love hearing it. No idea what the lyrics are, but the melody and tempo of it is perfect for an anthem.

Great that FIFA has gotten rid of their ridiculous all light strip vs all dark strip garbage. Great to see all teams so far this world cup in their somewhat traditional colours.

Maeda scores but he's offside. Good counter.

Still in the game but I thought that was a pretty terrible half from Japan, not much energy.

+xJapan's national anthem is fantastic, love hearing it. No idea what the lyrics are, but the melody and tempo of it is perfect for an anthem. Not quite on the level of the USA, German or Russian anthems if you ask me, but there's definitely a modest grandness to it that fits the Japanese ethos perfectly. Our anthem (by comparison) is trite and I challenge you to find anybody who actually feels a swelling of pride. Like our nations' flag, it could easily be changed to something more inspiring and should be considered.

I'm actually happy with a nill-all against Morocco - they are a quality team and were very organised. Will be a very tough group I think. Ignoring last world cup, Croatia are a perennial group stage choker, so a likely result for them is losing to Canada and beating Belgium :-P
Just based on the first half, Germany are absolute quality. Probably the best team play I've seen at the tournament yet.

Lol 2:1 Japan. What on earth was that from Neuer? Typical lethergic German collapse they've had around the past 6 years. The German commontary is just monotone conversational.

An Asian confederation team showing guts and determination to turn around a 1-0 deficit and beat a heavily fancied opponent who are among the WC favourites... We should be so lucky...
