Switzerland were one goal off topping the group which would've seen Portugal vs Brazil.

should tite have gone for his best starting X1 to fine tune combination and tactics? theres always the possible downside of resting too many first choice starters that you risk taking a humiliating morale sapping defeat like this

ATM the best teams have probably been France, Brazil, Netherlands. Based on Qatar form, it should be one of these teams who win.
Spain might lift. Japan have a chance.
In terms of mental strength, I think Socceroos, Japan, South Korea, plus Italy, who failed to qualify, and eliminated teams, Germany and Uruguay, are countries who always compete. These teams rarely drop their heads.

What were the Uruguayans complaining about?
Interesting that so many Latino north/south American teams out already.
Mexico, Costa Rica, uruguay and Ecuador.

These teams rarely drop their heads. Strange analysis. Netherlands hasn't been anywhere near the best. They've done just enough in all their games, but have impressed precisely no one with their play so far. They seem to lack true quality to go much further. I wouldn't even be surprised if the US knock them out. Then again, if they get through, they face Australia in the next round, so a SF is certainly possible. Argentina, Spain and England have looked much better though. Morocco too. And it's weird that you include Australia and Uruguay as teams "who always compete". Australia has rolled over a number of times, most recently against France, where they didn't compete at all. And Uruguay only started "competing" in the last game when it was too late. They took it easy, scored no goals and showed absolutely nothing in their first two games.

+xReally surprised/disappointed with Serbia. Having said that they never fail to disappoint. It's not surprising at all. They're a tall, slow team with shambolic defence and poor fitness. Only Costa Rica conceded more goals in the group stage. They can only play for about an hour before completely running out of gas, which happened in all 3 games. They're also mentally weak. They totally switched off against Cameroon when they thought they had it in the bag, and fell for Switzerland's provocations much too easily. It's so simple to unsettle them. They fully deserved to finish last in the group.

Mexico, Costa Rica, uruguay and Ecuador. They thought they had a claim for a penalty late but also there was a VAR referral earlier the ref, to his credit, knocked back. (Good on him.)

World Cup of upsets but to be fair South Korea were capable because they have some good players and technical and physically they are up there too.
Serbia were disappointing, them and Belgium I expected better.
It will be interesting to see how it will go in the knockout stages, these are one off games where sometimes it can be about attrition more than the skill to beat an opponent so it will be interesting to see how the big nations go against the less known teams where they will frustrate them.

No room for any of it (the Swiss have history ie the Albanians on their team starting stuff last time)

+x+xJust saw Uruguay win but go out. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of clowns. Whinging diving pricks until they saw Korea go up. Made for a hectic last 20. Sucked in Suarez. Even more of a flog in real life. Wouldn't mind your viewpoint on the Cavani scene. Plenty of internet stuff about how it is a penalty but I see zero claim there. I'd be so angry if our players tried that when they could've used the ball to score instead. So watched about a dozen replays this morning. Never a pen. Well done ref. Problem is of course Ronaldo got given one similar. Which of course it wasn't.

Not surprised with what you just said. Was sitting smack in the middle of the Serbs last night so couldn't celebrate the Swiss 3rd which was a gem. One of the Australians I went with was sitting on the bench side and said one of the black players was blowing kisses at the Serb bench. Hahaha. (My cousin was also talking about the Albanians on the Swiss side.) What's the deal there? I'm not up on Serb/Albanian grievances.
