Surprised saudi are only ranked 54
Part of me wants a group of death. Less likely to meet a tough team early in a knockout and gauranteed to play more tough games

For mainstream appeal I always wish to be grouped with well-known countries in AFC tournaments.
I’ll be hoping we draw China, Lebanon & India.

I genuinely wish this site had a function to hide all threads besides ones like this, matchday thread, aussies abroad and senior/junior national team threads.
Anyway it would be nice to avoid teams like Vietnam who do the boundless energy buzzing fly get in the way accidentally thing that we can often struggle with

I think I'd prefer Oman or China. Apart from the debacle of our last WCQ campaign where we drew against China and Oman, previous to that we seemed to have their measure and I think Socceroos are in a much better space. Agree with Kyrgyzstan, although Palestine would be okay too, and yes Hong Kong would be the pick of Pot 4.

There is the sticky function where they stay at the top, which we've tried, only for the odd phenomenon where people don't seem to notice it and post less

Probably gonna get worst as they just change the new coach. They lost & outplayed to Thailand in ASEAN cup and Thailand just lost to Syria (1-3) & Bahrain (1-2).

Would love to meet up with China and give them a hiding.
I guess they'll then probably ban the rest of our exports.

Pots drawn in reverse so we'll be last and will be saying which group we'd rather get not to mention avoiding less desirable paths.

Nice mix of East and West Asia too on each group. Think I'd take E or F

We got Uzbekistan Syria and India. Banana skins. Group B next to Qatar in A I'll have to confirm paths.

The toughest of the groups I reckon. Uzbekistan and Syria both very tricky. Watching the draw, when it came to Pot A being drawn, I was hoping for any group other than Group B, and of course, that’s what we got. Groups all relatively even it has to be said. Did anyone take note of the round of 16 format that was flashed on screen during draw? Who is top team in Group B matched with in round of 16? Can’t find format online.

Yeah the next round isn't on the wiki yet. Also, if it's a 3rd placed team ( could be preferable) means we'd have to wait a while due to the different combinations advancing to next round.

We got the most difficult group imo.
Hopefully our path aligns with Group A as Qatar’s group is the easiest draw I’ve ever seen, so we should hopefully at least be rewarded for progressing out of our group.

I feel being the big team in a group it's the expectation and we become the hunted. The football is totally different too. All 3 WC opponents attacked us and had a higher line. These Asian teams back up and allow very little room for our preferred play of using space and having channels to pass through. We looked so much better against Peru than UAE. WC was much better as was the games against Ecuador. Play against some bus parker and we hardly know how to deal with it.
Also, Asian teams play such an unpredictable attack that the ball goes in a lot of random areas that throw off higher level teams. Yes, the higher teams should have the skill and awareness to stop it but you look at all the goals the minnows score, particularly from the ME and it's pure bedlam and randomness.

Did anyone take note of the round of 16 format that was flashed on screen during draw? Who is top team in Group B matched with in round of 16? Can’t find format online. Found my answer - 3rd place from Group A/C/D. Then likely 1st place from Group F in quarter final (Saudi Arabia) and 1st place from Group D in semi final (Japan). If they all top their groups and so do we, Qatar, South Korea and Iran would all be on other side of the draw. Crazy how we always seem to get Japan and Saudi, and avoid Iran and South Korea! Tricky given our track record recently against Saudi and Japan… just to make the final! Also, we would need to beat two 1st place teams to make the final (Japan and Qatar have soft draw of the top seeded countries as they’ll only need to beat one 1st place team to make final, if they top their group). Overall, in looking at this in detail, it’s about as hard a draw as we could have got. Could very well lose in quarter finals even if we top group, quite conceivably.
