Completely unexpected scoreline, Melb City's midfield balance was all wrong and allowed CCM's transition game to be at their full affect and crucially they took their chances (even the pens).
Melb City's attack wasnt too bad, they just let themselves down when they lost the ball in transition espeically both fullbacks both got exposed in behind which Silvera particularly took advantage of with a classy 1v1, finish and a dime of an assist.

Watching Silvera play this season he probably isnt mentioned as others are especially in terms of the skilful attackers coming through but he had a blinder last night but also he's form in the last month or so has been very good too.
It reminded me of Folami's form for Victory last season which helped him get a Socceroos call up, I can see him get a surprise call up for the upcoming Socceroos match against Argentina and that would be some turnaround from last season where he couldn't get a start with the Jets.

In terms of Silvera and co, the Mariners they are a great example of what the right environment can do to young players after these players were discards from other clubs but the Mariners have fully embraced them and they look like different players from the time they first arrived, take a bow Mariners fully deserved the win but also an excellent strategy!

Totally agree B4L Silvera was exceptional, his outside of the foot cross for Nkono to score was class.

Monty has a good eye for young players and has greatly assisted the development of players such as Farrell,Dan Hall,Balard and Steele who came through the Academy. His assistant Raimundo also should be given a lot of credit in this respect.Nisbet too has shone under the tutelage of this duo.

The other important aspect of Monty's coaching is that he has been able to spot players  both here and overseas whose careers were stalling.Triantis from Wanderers and Mcgarry from the Jets were not getting match time but have been revelations at the Mariners.Cummings had burnt his bridges in the UK as he had a party boy image and was kicked out of his last club( Dundee United).Tulio's career in Portugal had stalled  with unsuccessful loan spells including one in Belgium and Nkololo was playing in the French 3rd division.
Silvera was with the Mariners three seasons ago and despite flashes of brilliance was lazy and had a poor attitude. He went to Portugal but was not successful and then was at the Jets last season but had limited game time. When he re-signed with CCM this season I was very doubtful that he would provide any value but what a revelation he has been  with attacking flair, determined defence and the ability to score wonderful goals. He probably should have been awarded the Marston medal last night but a hat trick in a final would have swayed the judges and Cummings played  his part well  so he was an obvious choice. However Monty and Raimundo have done a great job in rehabilitating Silvera's career so much so that GA must have him in mind for a possible Socceroos selection

We need to acknowledge Storm Roux and his stunning return to form over the last half of the season - he totally dominated Goodwin in the semi finals and was instrumental in nullifying their attack. He was great to watch.
Also McGarry picked up from the jets and he has been a star for us as well.
So many stories - Triantis was awesome in the centre back pairing - such maturity at 20.
Theo is such a weapon and creates chances for others through determination and capability.

I am overwhelmed at how good we were on Sat night.

Monty = LEGEND !!

yep kudos to CCM and Monty.
Been a good build up the last couple of seasons.
What a record final thrashing.

Putting aside the loss of home advantage, was it the case of MC playing one of their worst games of the season in a GF and CCM taking their chances ?

I'm not one to bag refs but the second pen wasn't a pen. If the ball hits your supporting arm it's no pen. That's an IFAB directive. Unless there was a second touch.

Not that it made any difference.

I agree... In real time I thought the defender actually made a grab at the ball which initially hit him but the VAR replay didnt show that... No pen .....

Also WTF was with the dropped ball going to CFG when it was in CCM possession when the ref called (wrongly) for a stoppage due to head injury???? I didnt get the logic.

100% Huge congratulations to CCM. Stunning display and worthy champs. Happy for Bowden, Middie and ALL who follow the mighty "Sea Bogans" was great to see your fans get some joy at the big dance.
Great final for the neutral, was anyone's game up to first 15-20mins of the second half until Melbourne City just imploded..... Silvera was a revelation.... what a great goal and assist. Agree with Savic, that outside of the foot peach of a pass was the best pass I have seen in Australia for a very very long time.... even I could have scored off that :P
Triantis was also a nice surprise, I hope the kid goes far in England I understand the hype now....

This morning's Sydney Herald did not mention the GF result at all -what a travesty.

Yeah that sucks. However a massive kudos to the A League social media team. The fact they post every goal in video during games and post to near spam-like proportions means it pops up in everyone's feed. The interested follow. I'd hope the semi interested follow and may give matches a go next season.

4 from the game off to Toulon. I wonder if Triantis and Farrell will be at the celebrations Sunday? They're all definitely going to miss the Tuesday game but the following ones are possible. Hope to get to the next round. European holiday after that.

Same with Tilio and Talbot too.

Silvera would have been my Joe Marston Medal winner, though I guess you can't deny a Hat trick hero the gong. Very creative and took on Nuno Reis one on one for a brilliant goal. Fouled after another great run up the middle which should have resulted in a free just outside the 18. And as said above, a sublime pass/assist for Nkolo's goal. Also put he hard yards in defence.

Hopefully Arnie took notice.

What a great grand final, I went to the game, and well done Central Coast Mariners, given the struggles they have had to endure over the last ten years, they have done a great job in turning things around.

It’s a bit disappointing the game wasn’t a sell out (the official attendance was 26K), but there were lots of Mariners fans and they created a great atmosphere.

What would the score have been if Mariners still had Garang Kuol - maybe 9-1?! Can’t believe Nabbout started the game? Leckie, JMac and Tilio kept at bay. City choke in 3/4 grand finals now.

Good on Moresche. Kaltak, Moresche and N'kololo are the great imports for the league. The Mariners now have a status. Keep it up with local talent but two big/good marquees would be great to do now.
