Just important to win first up. Ireland lamenting injuries.
Don't want to get too far ahead but want to avoid England in round of 16. Plenty of big teams await in knock outs.

Was reading colombian press - and socials as I follow a lot of colombian football stuff - a lot were saying the Irish overplayed the intensity and had a sook basically.
I don't know as didn't watch the game. Let's hope it's been a bad prep for Ireland
Really hoping we go deep. Will be massive for the game and country. We deserve some football luck

On the Box to Box pod they interviewed an Irish football journo and said he expects Ireland to play a back 5, park the bus and try to snag one on the counter. Also said Denise O'Sullivan was 50/50 after the Columbia incident.

According to the news I just saw they've sold more Matildas jerseys than they did during the men's World cup.

I tell you what, at my kid's primary school I saw multiple Matildas tops - and mostly on boys! Also at the club I coach, all the boys have such a different approach to women's football now- they're all pumped about it and most have tickets to games. It's awesome.

SQUAD NOTE: Sam Kerr is unavailable tonight after she picked up a calf injury at training on MD-1. Sam will be unavailable for the next two matches with the Matildas Medical Team to re-assess her following our second group stage match.

+xTeam in Arnold Carpenter Hunt Kennedy Catley Raso Gorry Cooney-Cross Vine Foord Fowler Something like that That's exactly what it'll be. Not sure about a 4-4-2. Also have poor depth options at striker. Surprised we didn't bring more options into the squad. Still a very strong starting 11.

Leckie missed the Asian Cup group stage last time so this is surely precautionary and Kerr should be right for Denmark.

These long through balls are optimistic. Feel like we need to be more patient unless its a clear break with space. A bit too much of a gap between the midfield and strikers early on.

Corners way too lofty. Ireland smart and organised. We clearly have some kind of plan but it doesn't look like one either.

Ireland are defending well but we've been slow in our passing and movement. We've played too straight.
McCabe's a good player but knows how to get away with a dodgy tackle. I hope the refs get wise to that.
I'm glad Fowler has dropped deeper with Vine supporting Foord. That will help.

It must be an Australia football thing that we are not good at creating chances when up against low block defences, our play looks very predictable but also we are not doing the basics well enough especially passing and receiving the ball efficiently.
We need something in the second half, I would be looking at moving one of the No.6s and bringing on Chidiac to give us more guile and creativity which we are lacking.

Very hard pen for Ireland to take but the way the defender went in was very risky and got caught out. A tough and a tangle.

More suitable for us now with Ireland attacking. Hopefully more space and we can get running with the ball.

Ball Recovery Time is a new Match Fact that describes with accuracy down to the second how quickly a team recovers the ball after losing it.
Australia at 15 seconds while Ireland on 39 seconds in the last 10min.

The Matildas have become such a sub-par team under Gustavsson. No clear strategy or philosophy. It's all about trying to force things. He's not even adjusted well to Ireland changes and them taking control of the game.
This golden generation is being wasted by him
