Well to be honest I missed all of that about De Vanna which is why I wrote she tweeted 'lies' and then went missing.

I can't see why you can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

I read the article Enzo put up and it said 3 counts were referred to the police. What's happening on that front?

Can't find anything in the media.  Which is kinda the point.

As for being 'outraged' by the kiss (and only the kiss) I've linked multiple articles and actions Mr Grub has been involved in as well as the grubby behaviour of their FA and the coaching staff.

So it's not about the 'one' thing.

So sure, paint me as a hand-wringing, bed-wetter if that's what suits you.

Yes Muz, your detective work since a Spanish man kissed a Spanish woman has been admirable.

Yet when alerted to De Vanna’s allegations your response was simply; “Did she though?” No links, no searches?  Just like our media, the curiosity and investigation of something to do with the Spanish team seems, shall I say ‘more intense’ than your curiosity about abuse in the a Australian game. That’s kinda my point  … but more aimed at the media than you personally. I know you’re a good guy.

Nah mate what's weird is as Clockwork eloquently put it: why kissing a woman is worse than grooming a young girl?

Its even more weird that champions of women's rights like yourself doubted De Vanna actually even made a complaint.  I thought you'd be on top of that.

Not to mention the media silence

The outrage is completely disproportionate to the act and its context.

Clearly grooming is worse but like I said I wasn't across what was happening after Stajcic got sacked. (Excuse my ignorance). Most of what I was interested in was how ridiculous it was that he got booted.

I can't 'doubt' de Vanna made a complaint if I didn't know about it so stop trying to put weasel words in my mouth.

As for 'kissing' being less of a crime who knows what else was happening behind closed doors. Maybe that's why so many of the players and staff have full-on got the shits.

This is a weird argument. Rubiales should get away with an apology and not resign because the Australian media swept Lisa de Vanna's accusations under the carpet!?

I agree with you about “straw that broke the camel’s back”.

The point about DecVanna is that the media and people like yourself are clearly outraged by “the kiss”,yet seem to be totally uninterested in abuse of minors in our women’s national team?

That’s what’s strange.but maybe it’s only strange to “old blokes” like me. Maybe I just don’t get why kissing a woman is worse than grooming a young girl? But I’m all ears.

Maybe the big blow up is not only did he not apologise he doubled and then tripled down, they issued a false statement on behalf of Hermonso after trying to rope her family in 3 times and then the federation issued 2 more statements backing him in effect giving the middle finger to anyone who thought things were a bit off.

You've even got Europeans that play for Barcelona and Madrid that have issued statements that know the conditions in Spain saying things are crook.

So yeah maybe that's what all this is about. If wouldn't be the first time a massive blow up has caused a full rebuild from the ground up.

But you just see this as uppity sheilas trying to take down a successful bloke. Weird.

What he did was wrong, he should have apologized, received some sort of reprimand, the player and the Spanish FA should made a public statement that the matter was dealt with, is now behind them, and now let's celebrate that we are world champions.

But that was never going to be allowed to happen because women's football these days is as much as a political tool as it is a sport.   Its too good of an opportunity. This MAN has to be sacked and made an example of.

The furore is over the top, especially given that De Vanna's allegations are for more serious and she's been basically air-brushed out.

Maybe and I don't know, just like you, this was the straw that broke the camels back.

Clearly something is not right with their FA. After all 15 of them resigned and after changes were made only 8 of them made themselves available for selection.

There's been complaints for a long time. At first privately before the FA leaked the names to friendly journalists forcing them to go public.

Maybe they're blowing up because they've had a gutful of being treated like 'girls' and to be grateful for the pat on their head they get occasionally.

Not everything has to be a culture war. I've never had a woman force herself on me in a public arena and I'm pretty sure you haven't either so who are we to say they 'should get over it'.

Spend 5 minutes with old blokes and a lot of them think this sort of thing is fine. It's not the 40s, 50s, 60s or 70s anymore.

As for de Vanna what are you saying? The Spanish FA should be putting out a statement about her? The USWNT? The French?

Just typical look over there, something bad is happening therefore what person A says isn't valid.

Bloke is obviously a grub, the joint is riddled with nepotism and there's been mass resignations but 'nothing to see here' apparently.

Did she though?

The only thing I saw was her tweet out 'LIES' when all that blew up.

And then radio silence.

I was also annoyed she wasn't part of the coverage. Unless she told them to jam it.

Interesting. I just watched video of “the kiss” again. Player definitely moves into it rather than turning away. There’s got to be more to this than a simple kiss during a hugely emotional moment.
They’ll be coming for Ronaldo next. This wasn’t consensual.

Yeah I saw a player from the men's side, can't remember his name, saying instead of talking about the football and the joy it's brought us we're discussing this.

From winning the World Cup which bought joy to Spain has now been ruined, quite incredible.

And I thought the APL moving the grand final would make people made, but this is even worse.

Feel sorry for the Spanish players especially for Jenni Hormoso who have worked so hard for this moment to win the world cup.

While on the subject of Lisa de Vanna -she has completely disappeared off the radar. One of the greats of Australian football but she was hardly mentioned in the coverage of the WC and certainly did not make an appearance as a guest/expert commentator in the matches I saw( only saw Channel 7 games).Probably frozen out of the Matilda set up for all time.

And what a quality player she was. Technically superior to many of current squad. Hammered home that goal against the USA in 2015 Wcup from open play- don’t think any other team did all tournament v Usa

Its insane.

Unfortunately the first one fits the populist political narrative that we have an epidemic of women being harassed by men, white privileged ones specifically, the second one doesn't.

Beacause most of the football journalists in Australia have been driven out of the profession by abuse, death threats and vested media interests. Simon Hill wrote a good article on it recently. The football journalists left are either yes-men, walking a tightrope or non-existent hence these other hacks entering the void and offering their dumb shit opinions.

This. When I covered the A-League, I got called names by Damien Do Bohun when I brought up some concerns all those years ago. Fair to say I no longer work in the field.

Balin Trev - 24 Aug 2023 11:39 AM
Tony argues that using the same starting 11 in tournaments is ‘proven’ to be best strategy throughout history. FA never ask him tough questions. Carpenter, Gorry were cooked in that 2nd half before fuck ups- meanwhile Grant & co. just left to rot on bench.

FA - like Apl- don’t seem accountable to anyone

This is all we need to move on from him. He saw us lose to England due to fatigue and still insists. When a manager insists on something that is not working, it is a detriment to the players too. Having those player over fatigue could have also caused an issue to their health. What Tony fails to mention is that teams who may have had the same starting 11 actually didn't. They would swap 1 or 2 players, but also, and most importantly, USE their subs.

My point is though that the team deserved serious analysis (from football people) of the management, tactics and errors and reporting of these aspects were washed away with the feel good aspects of their run into the semis.

Can't really remember too many articles commenting on what went wrong.

C'mon Muz a bit of self reflection mate, when did you give Arnold's socceroos that level of serious analysis?

Its literally the same thing, most Aussies football fans are cheerleaders not football analysts.

Bit rich for some of you blokes bemoaning the media not asking tough questions when most of you cheer leaded Arnold's team for playing what was pretty defensive with a bit of luck

If anything the Matilda's embodied the Aussie spirit than Arnolds team did.

At least the Matilda's are playing for in top leagues, and top teams within those top leagues.
