Well done to Spain.England gave it a shot but found the Spanish ability to play out under pressure frustrating and the Spanish defence well organised.
If we had made the final against Spain we would have been torn apart.Technically and gamewise streets ahead of our girls.

Feel for the England keeper she saved a pen and made some solid saves - she didnt deserve to be on the loosing side tonight but other then that England were the 2nd best team tonight Congradulations to Spain - the only nation in history to have won the womens and mens fifa world cup - i hope they plaster that everywhere if the fu-k heads at in the USWT EVER act cocky ever again

Glad that the team with the best football skills won WCup rather than the physically toughest and roughest. Technically and tactically outplayed the Poms 👍 and thank f*ck no ‘sweet Caroline’ played 👏

I guess the Spain coach management to get his most appeased and able 11 out. 15 spoke out against him. Not going to bother checking how many still went to WC. Yes, the players are able and won but if he also managed to win a world cup with a squad that hated him then kudos to that.

This fucking planet sometimes I swear...
Olga Carmona wins the world cup with a winning goal off her boot. Lifts her shirt and shows a message for the passing of her friend's mother. Lifts the world cup. Gets taken to the dressing room and is told her father just died.

Brilliant football by Spain in the first half!
Their circulation football, possession game, took the overly physical Poms (against us too) and their awful American ref mate, out of the equation! It was a victory for football.
Credit to the Poms and Swedes playing gegen pressing and often succeeding against us, but England could not close down space quickly enough and were faced to retreat to a half press in the mid stage of the first half. The Spanish dominated territory and possession.
One of the episodes of Spanish passing sequences, about 8- 9 one and two touch passing combinations in the build up in some tight areas on the left side from defence to attack, was the best football I've ever seen played in the women's game!
To my disbelief, reading that 15 Spanish players have refused to play for Spanish coach Vilda, and Spain recently winning the under 17 and under 20 World Cups, the days of the USA and their overly physical style of college football dominating women's football, are over. Their depth is phenomenal.
Vilda, despite being an unpopular player manager, has the team playing superb football.

Hate to admit it, but we are some distance behind the first three place getters - Spain, England and Sweden. Did we have a lucky draw? I heard last night that Japan beat Spain 4-0 in the group stages? Elise KK suggested that Japan ( who I didn't see) were equal to Spain on a technical level. Nigeria after beating us, then only losing to the Poms on a pen shoot out, and Japan, may have arguably been better teams than us. Maybe Colombia too?

Well done to Spain, they were the better team but England played well too.
Watching how Spain played I'm not sure the Matildas were ready to match that level of football when their intent was on the transition, the way that Spain can play through the thirds is beautiful to watch and they would have probably carved us apart in the final if we made it.
Also a good lesson for youth development, Spain were also u17 and u20 world champs too so they have dominated in the last few years.

What we have in this women's team is what Barca's, I mean Spain's men, did about 10 years ago until they go dismantled by coaches who knew how to press as a team and had clinical wingers and strikers to hit them on the turnover. Japan already showed the way to beat them, and beat them well. England and Sweden let them play, as we saw Spanish women are just as good at falling over a blade of grass and wasting time as their male counterparts

We played 6 games , won 3 ( one win on pens), and lost 3. Yes Japan smashed Spain. Japan are Spain's equal technically but they also know how to press as a team and play on the counter as well.

We need to find out how they did it and implement that in Australia.

As far as I saw from Spain's matches they never played dour defensive football. Yes they are shaky on the defensive counter and agree they could have easily conceded if England played wider and in behind but ........ they did soak up pressure pretty well, get out of defence relatively easily despite overtly physical pressing and even you have to concede that their "touch" on the ball was sublime... That little #6 (no disrespect, her name escapes me) looked like she was playing FIFA on Xbox against a drunk opponent.....

The opposition needs to press *as a team* and for 10-15 minute continuous periods. Give them no time and space on the ball and they will turn it over. The Japanese did it to them and then some. I find Spain tika-taka shit boring to watch but each to his own.

Weve had a decade head start and still refuse to "implement" anything other than Star Wars round.

I just admire the skill on display mate and think the better team won. P.S eat a bag of dicks England. hahahahahahaha

What I find hard to believe is that Sweden and England manager's completely ignored what Japan did to Spain. They were shown a template in the same tournament to follow FFS.

Agreed..... best solutions then based on such a good will tournament and promises of fed and state funding: 1. we don't have money - Hope we get as much if not more than the other codes for footballs' coffers2. when we do have money, the people running the show don't use it wisely. - Dont let anyone "running the show" anywhere near the money.

Only 3 players out of the original 15 failed to return to the squad. Oh and in the original complaint iirc they stated they didn't have a problem with the coach himself.
