Stephen Conroy, the former federal communications minister turned lobbyist, has landed a new gig — a seat on the Foxtel board — following a major shake-up under its new billionaire owners at global sports streamer DAZN.

Conroy also shares connections with Dazn’s inner circle.
Former APL boss Danny Townsend joined SURJ Sports Investment, part of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, after leaving the league in 2023.
His successor included DAZN co-founder James Rushton.
Earlier this year, SURJ spent $US1 billion ($1.5 billion) buying a stake in Dazn, a deal led by Townsend — who now sits on the Dazn board.

Surely he speaks well, one on one, to hold the position he does. It would be simple to run a line of 'Aussie football did not have the money, vision or the wisdom to implement my plans - unlike people of your greatness'. Combine that with a carefully manicured CV like so many highlights reels for dodgy players and he could show proven success and a plan for greatness ready for their deep pockets to pave the way to glory. I am never surprised by the ability of a speaker to continue to rise.

Strange that DT gets the CEO gig. I get why they may opt for a foreigner but of all the people in the world, they choose DT. Were CFG really that impressed with him? CFG are United Arab Emirates not Saudi Arabia Probably gave him a glowing reference to get rid of him, and Saudis taking him is an unexpected bonus Yeah that was what I was kinda thinking as logical link between DT and the Middle East would be CFG.

+xEqually, there has to be questions raised about JJ as well. But of course anything is better than Lowy....... Ah the good ol recent chestnut. One thing out of it is Lowys was never gonna improve the cancer set and has carried with the new lot. Aussie football knows no better eh. Bring on the NST at least one thing below the mud that presents some form of hope but we shall see and revisit this within a season or 3 for lols or here we go again :) or its settling in despite the swings and roundabouts.

Shame really, was quite enjoying the show ..... hope the replacement is just as entertaining :) I don't see why not. The CEO only follows the direction set by the board. As the face of the organisiation he cops all the flak, but really most criticism should be directed at the board. Maybe But He was / is in charge of day to day operations, and should have done a lot better with CBS... Ch 10 & P + sport seems to be run out of Melbourne, and have a very AFL / Cricket slant. Add the lack of promotion by 10 of Football, when what was promised was a lot, to this the technical issues P+ have and combine this with nil promotion by APL.... rating tank resulting in funds cut and needing to sell the grand final... bucket boy comes along... When cleaning a fish you scrap the scales off ie Trashcan gone therefore clean next is the Head severed off the boardroom:) Tis also possible they both can be bad.... Often through Gallop got a bad rap as he was following on from what Frank then Steven Lowy wanted... Exactly. We don't know who's idea it was to sell the GF to NSW, although probably DT. However we do know that the APL board voted on the decision twice and both times they had enough votes to make it happen. So even if DT presented the GF deal to the board it was still the board that gave the green light.
