And maybe at this point in time excellent is out of reach....

BTW for anyone interested, and its 98 pages... but the following link is the 2023 Annual Review by FA including financials. [pages 11 to 17]

As an aside the pie chart on page 17, showing the investment in our national teams I found interesting.

Enjoy if into these reports,

Almost double the spend on the senior Men's side vs the Women.

Girls are doing better with half the cash.

yer thats for a different thread talking wages/funding at NT levels lets keep it out of the NST even though its bleeding obvious Matildas performances (kudos to em) but its a whole different ball game figuratively speaking :)

Thanks Mid - interesting glancing through reports.

Forty odd teams became twenty six odd teams,  they will get a crap load of teams for this new competition I'd say..
The FA finally unveiled the NST!!!!...with umm....eight teams. If the FA's Johnson raises the criteria even further about now, we can end up with a three team comp. They can play each other twelve times, that would work. Oh yeah, they would like another 2-4  teams. It's only $50 mil to join, with no guarantees.
Go Liverpool!

Similarly it wouldn’t take a lot of cash to have the Australian men’s team on top of world netball. It’s the relative spend.

On this part I have a feeling part of the expenditure would have been a result that we attended a world cup of foreign shores during the 22/23 financial year. I don't know if wages count in that pie chart.

It's possible with the WWC being in 23/24 next year will be in the Matilda's favour or close.

That said haven't seen previous years so unsure.

As a Foundation Member of the National Soccer League since 1977, Heidelberg United Football Club (HUFC) has consistently advocated for a robust and inclusive National Competition. We enthusiastically welcome Football Australia’s recent announcement of a 2nd Tier Competition scheduled to commence in 2025. In addition, we extend heartfelt congratulations to the eight selected clubs for their inclusion in this exciting venture. From the inception of discussions surrounding the establishment of a National 2nd Tier competition, HUFC has played a pivotal role. Alongside a group of like-minded clubs, we facilitated collaboration among key stakeholders to define the parameters of such a competition. While we initially submitted an expression of interest, along with 28 other clubs, with the intention of finalising our Request for Proposal (RFP), concerns arose during this phase. Specifically, we identified issues with some of the participation requirements that remain unaddressed. Consequently, the Club had made the decision not to proceed with finalising our RFP at this point in time.We welcome the ongoing discussions with Football Australia and sincerely hope that our concerns and those of a few other clubs are considered in the coming months. We maintain a strong belief that Heidelberg United Football Club deserves a place in a National 2nd Tier Competition, and we are committed to working collaboratively towards a positive outcome for our inclusion always considering the financial viability of the Club as a priority.

What's their reasoning for this? I would have thought aligning with the NPLs and below would be much more desirable than being aligned with the A-League.

Well yes.

It was tongue in cheek to rile up the usual suspects. Thought Rusty would be first cab off the rank.

Even so it's pretty clear that money helps and if they increased the spend to what the blokes get maybe they'd be even better.

Maybe a new process for clubs to go through makes it easier for new entities to be included. That would put some pressure on the standouts to toe the line or miss out.

Clubs didn't apply and get rejected, they decided to not apply.

The common theme has been the lack of detail/info supplied and the consequent risk for the clubs

I'd say it's going to be FA that needs to sharpen it's pencil and maybe it'll be enough to get over their risk concerns

I like Heidelberg but I doubt anyone could give two farks if they apply or not

Seems that way, especially for extra Victorian clubs

I think working on the Queensland clubs and whatever it is that is causing their issues will be the focus.

If 2 come through, FA will settle for that.  If 3 then maybe Knights

yes, there will be clubs from SA, Queensland and West Aus doing what they can to get in, so any demands by Vic or NSW clubs now are not going to cause much concern at HQ

No WA clubs even attempted to start the RFP stage

Also, according to Galatas (AAFC chair) there's no sign of anything out of South Australia.

I wonder if Canberra Croatia might go further if the APL franchise falls over.  APL are under more time pressure to get a 2nd license up for 2024

And South Hobart, I thought, were fairly solid to apply. Be interesting to know why not.
Their Chair remarked on GlobalGame how the whole RFP took ages to even start to get info from FA

???? Maybe they feel that playing in Summer would be the ONLY chance they have of drawing a crowd and making this profitable for their club and supporters. Or they have an issue with FA not being clear on what happens if this goes tits up and being let back into the NPL State level again. Dont forget last time the national league folded South and Knights were left without a competition to play in for nearly 2 seasons... Dont know about Knights financials but it damn nearly bankrupted us.... Real tin rattling Save our South stuff back then ...Once bitten twice shy, I dont blame them for being overly cautious.....

Don't know about that, in the presser JJ smirked when Teo mentioned 2025 would be the first season since 1961 South would be in a league without either Bergers or Knights and how important local derbys are to this new comp..... I reackon they will do their best to get them in. At least one of them....

I think - or a hunch of the VicPL MK Bergers for eg is the state of play in Vic after all the years we've been in the dark.
I'm so impressed Prestons from PL2 have got their act together for sometime whereas the 2 mentioned are no where near that and have been in the doldrums/ordinary for years unless I'm wrong MSC.
Probably management - just 2 of 7 (SMH/Prestons) in the RFP are viable so to speak.
Whereas NSW could have had more but can't make the finish line due to who knows what for eg Rockdale is a well run Club and ground.
Sutho/Sharks bid, like wtf, have their own ground, huge catchment - did the Gong bid influence not taking them on ? how did they not meet the criteria ? who knows.

The mention of Canbra, I mentioned before the smart move would be down there gaining support for Canbra croatia.
Growing a known NPL for NST makes far more sense and more affordable.
Whatever the APL have planned for down there I tell you my hunch now, after the honeymoon period and the first season or so it will flop.
Youth is pretty damn good down there (been there a number of times YL for the lad) and aligning with a NPL Club in NST ticks the boxs heaps more than the other league but thats my opinion.
