I still think Atkinson generally goes alright. He's not had the extended run of starts to shake the dust off. Peru and Argentina he fared well given his international experience so he can only grow.

Don't really watch Ten other than the football matches. Not sure where these interviews are appearing in regular Aus media? -See nothing on ABC, Murdoch tabloids, Fairfax, Guardian, New Daily, etc. For them it is nearly all English football, AFL,  Big Bash cricket and basketball.

Thought there were really good questions asked by the assembled football media. Arnie has at last learned to respect opponents. I thought Irvine was excellent at answering questions, demonstrating his media urbanity and eloquence matche his game sense on the pitch - despite his body not being able to always do what his brain tells him is best.

As designated captain, it looks like his defects as a player are going to be examined - because he will be playing.  Many of us don't want him in the team for his playing  defects, believing others have overtaken him. With Ryan injured, apart from Jackson's recent tantrums with refs, Irvine may be the best captain. He might be the most articulate captain the Socceroos have ever had.

I didn't really get that impression. Just enthusiastic to be winning the opening game with their home support.

According to team lists last night 23 players are named. I find it silly to exclude 3 when 2 are definitely outfield players who could provide an option.

A photo of the kits for Australia today would suggest Iredale hasn't been included. I'll guess Thomas and Yazbek omitted too. 

The way the jerseys have been hung in the room suggest starters together and bench elsewhere. They're in numerical order. It would appear Behich and Jones are starting. Souttar, Goodwin, Baccus and Irvine are also in that bunch. Just a hunch.

Maybe not (can't happen for example if one keeper is suspended), but is pretty standard with a 12 man bench.
