Excellent crowd at Nix v FC game.As a Mariners supporter a draw would have been a good result but credit to the Nix for their second half comeback.

silly yellow by Hingert. Both he and Aldred are fouling too much due to their slowness. Time for them to move on.

The last 3 crowds for the A-League have been 2k at City v WSW. 3k at WU v MV wtf??? and 4k at Newc v Adel. These are horrific. How did Victory get 3,058 for a game at AAMI even if it was an away match?

Thursday night is a factor. Cost of living is a factor. WU is a factor. 10 draws is a factor.

Back to the football...

Last night's game was a pretty ordinary watch and it was clear that both teams have been struggling. Having said that, Adelaide were the better team on the night and really should have won by more. Luka Jovanovic's goal was so well taken and on current form is seriously challenging for an Olyroos spot.

Jesus mate, thats just not true.

https://www.mediaweek.com.au/tv-ratings-march-7-2024-afl-2024-season-opener-reaches-2-3-million-on-seven/

Whats the comeback, that less people in Sydney own a televison so the 2.3 million are all in Collingwood and Richmond?

The new ratings method shows national figures only.  They are not split into the different markets now.  From historical figures maybe 10% would live in Sydney.

Mate I dont doubt you, but fact is the AFL is absolutely fantastic at marketing their game (I said their game, just because I live in Melbourne and follow the Tigers from a distance doesn't make me an AFL fan) 20 years ago there was 0 crowds at any AFL matches in NSW and now they are pulling in massive crowds... I dont know where they are from if they are Melbourne expats or whatever... The NRL hasnt managed to do that (at least down here) and the Aleague .... welll outside of the big derby you mention what else is it like?... I watch highlights online played in front of less than 5 thousand people, am I wrong?

20 years ago the Swans were averaging over 31,000 a week.

Are there many houses with Macarthur or Sydney City flags mate? Are the pubs packed to watch the Aleague .... I believe you about AFL not being a big thing in Sydney but the crowds in the stands tell another story.

Sydney city, you say ?  Been gone for a long while at national league level.

Come back & tell how many in Sydney watched these games.

Listen I live here I know the feeling. Swans were in GF 2 years ago, you would hardly know it.

No houses with swans flags, no cars, hardly anyone wearing swans merch, pubs weren't packed.

The A-League struggles in Sydney, hardly any talk in pubs, cafes & work places. The Pubs even those near the stadium don't show the A-League.
But stop listening to the Melbourne media, the pubs have the AFL on, hardly anyone watching, go to pubs, cafes or work places & you hardly hear anyone talking AFL.

1st game of the season, there has been no live AFL anywhere in the world since last Sept, every AFL must've been gagging for a game.
Giants even promoted the come & hate Collingwood game & enticed all Melb people living in Sydney to game.

The Sydney Derby, playing in the pathetic A-League (i used to attend with 20-30 friends now less than 5) with no marketing, with all the issues re APL's governing body got more fans than the Giants.

Come to Sydney next time either Giants or Swans in GF & see how big support is outside of the Eastern surburbs.

You believe too much in the Melb media. The TV numbers are so small.
