I would really like to have someone looking at every goal scored over a round and explain who should have done what to stop it or which goals were really unstoppable in the circumstances.

Having a weekly chat show could include that, but even something at halftime and fulltime looking at the goals from that game in an analysis of what went right/wrong (rather than just multiple replays from different angles) would be interesting.

I am terrible at knowing who should have done what and often pick the wrong players out to assign my blame. I would love to have an expert drawing circles, lines and arrows to show me who should have been where and gone where.

Every team will have different instructions to players - so I know that there is no right answer - and often players just get beaten - but there are also structural and systemic flaws along with bad decisions that get exploited.

That to me is what a football panel should be doing and bringing to the table rather than "what do you think the coaches are saying right now" and "how do you think the teams will change in the second half".

From memory Broich was doing something like this in a webcast with a former Wanderers player.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

What's missing is people that don't piss and moan about absolutely everything to do with P+ and the A League.

But more to your point I would love a commentator that actually knew the laws of the game.

Moss is a complete flog with no idea.

Case in point. Last night Irankunda got taken out by a flying tackle from a Roux. Moss posits that 'I still thinks he gets some of the ball there'. (Match time 71m 30seconds.)

Here's a hot tip Mr Moss. It makes no difference whether you win or lose the ball in a tackle. You can be sent off EVEN if you win the ball if you are out of control, have left your feet, are indulging in excessive brutality, force or speed. Roux was guilty of at least 3 of these.

You cannot 'endanger the safety of another player'. FULL STOP.

Roux is lucky maybe got a touch of the ball (I doubt it because it continued straight) or he would've missed the whole final series.

Then Roux told the ref to 'fuck off'. Fucking straight in the book for dissent there. There's no way I'm letting a player tell me to 'fuck off'.

2nd YC, on your bike son.

And then Moss complains about Irankunda's YC by saying 'I'm not sure how he could get out of the way'. Well how about you don't jump in the air with your knee raised and wipe out the bloke standing there with your hip. (Match time 72m 50seconds.)

He doesn't have a clue.

Get me on there for sideline commentary.

By the by Irankunda did that because he lost his rag. Again.

He really will need to sort out his mentality in Europe or he will spend most of the time either suspended or on the bench because he's a liability.

Nobody on Paramount really has chemistry together and the coverage is extremely boring. Give teo someone with a bit more excitement. Let the others loosen up a bit have some banter have some fun like the panelists in England just have a laugh it's supposed to be fun.

A midweek show they are practically crying for one it will tye all the narratives together so people can actually know what's happening in the league. I would like tactical insight as well but at the moment please just make the coverage exciting

I put this down to the fact that all games are commentated on from a studio in Sydney. I think its hard to get excited when you're not live in the flesh.

And yes, I'm not really sure what the likes of Moss bring to the game. Andy Harper, for all of his faults, does get excited once and again. Moss is as monotone as it gets and it feels like he doesn't research the games.

Its not just an Aleague issue it has slowly crept into ALL English speaking commentary worldwide the past few years... Commentators (and yes I agree if they arent even at the ground that is just shit for starters) spend hours pre-game trawling through Wikipedia articles and transfermarket just itching to spew their knowledge of where the players cat was born, last time they scored, who was the manager for team X in 1959 etc etc... a bit off colour and background is nice but just describe what the fark is being played out on thei pitc ( basic understanding of tactics and the laws of the game wouldn't go astray either), the game is NOT about Joe Bloggs calling it...

I think a bit of 'colour' is OK like say Zelic or Bosnich who are characters but you need the ying with the yang. Someone who can say 'yeah I know why you think that but XYZ.'

They could learn a thing or two from the late Richie Benaud who knew when to shut up and when to talk.

I will say Harper does seem to have a fairly good grasp of the laws even if he does disagree with them he says things like 'well technically that was a handball BUT XYZ' which is fine.

Agree with the Richie Benaud comment - but I never liked Zelic or Bosnich as 'colour commentators'. I know they both played at a high level but they were both obnoxious in the way their opinion was always right.

The best thing about the coverage is that there is no Brenton Speed!!

Definitely commentary that knows when or when not to talk. German commentary is non stop unlike England and Germany has incessant opinion giving as in 'I wouldn't have shot from there' or 'Why is the defender taking the penalty?' Simon Hill will quickly refer to the fact it is a defender taking a pen and have recollection that he's either taken them before or pulled up the stats so quickly. Say what is occurring rather than giving our 2 cents every single sentence.

Whether it should be on for the A League I don't know but German Sky has a weekly tactic show where the pick an upcoming game and dissect how the teams play. There's a transfermarkt show somewhat linked to the website I think where they look at values and potential moves. Not so entertaining really as it just the big fashionable names paying homage to the PSG fashion brand.

I personally really enjoyed A League all access. Insightful but not silly interviewing is good. Story telling of sorts. I think getting people from the game in more relatable or relaxed conditions can build a nice connection. The stupid post games questions often see players come across as annoyed.

Maybe so - he grated with me before that. My main beef was that he always had that sort of reaction when the game or sequence was boring. i.e. a snippet is fine - 90 mins annoying.

There used to be an ABC NRL caller (David Morrow?) that I would have on in the background, His voice would go like Speed's when something was on - the rest of the time it was a more normal voice. Even Darryl Eastlake used to have differing tones depending on the state of the game in SOO. Not Brenton though.
